By Hitch Go To PostLiverpool, Chelsea and Man Utd changing managers before Christmasits been a mental season tbf
Mental
edit: not that it took a genius to figure that Rodgers wouldn't last the season
Next season we'll have Mou, Pep, Klopp all in the same league...
what a time
By bud Go To Postthe aesthetics are just as important as the results.
i do have to say that arsenal these past few years haven't been playing like they did before that, so in that respect it is somewhat disappointing to see not winning anything (i only partly care about the fa cup) combined with not playing gorgeous football is extra hard on my gentle soul.
if arsenal win it this season, then they'll have done it with, on average, decent football. it's not the kind of football that made me fall in love with arsenal in the first place, but hey, at least it's not like chelsea. or united. or liverpool.
there are good phases in games with good football, but then there times when it looks like they have no idea what they're doing. what matters to me most is the passing game–and that absolutely needs to improve.
i do have to say my standards have lowered ever so slightly (say this in ramsey's voice). so i'm not as bummed out about the football as i wouldmve been before.
i've learned that it's all relative.
arsenal will win the league and champions league this season, though.
this is the season, lads.
this is the season.
We just don't have the players for that type of passing game.
And I hope we don't try and go back to that style because we were weak and never going to win with it.
We still score the most beautiful goals in the league even if the build up isn't what it once was.

By Perfect Blue Go To PostSplatt,
Let's meet up in Belgrade sometime between Jan 2nd and 5th pls
Sure.
PM me on GAF so we can work out the time and place :)
I'm in at internal struggle, and I know it's highly illogical but I would if winning the treble meant playing like man utd for the entire season I'd honestly rather not (no offence Man U slaent).
However there has only been one time I can remember arsenal being actually good enough to play the tika style and that was when we reached CL final and were tearing barca apart until Jens got sent off. Even that season we beat Madrid by playing counter attacking football rather than dominating possession. The simple truth is there have probably been a handful of players (Hleb, Cesc, Henry, Berkamp and Pires maybe a few more) who have been technically good enough to play the type of football I Think Meus wants.
There's a balance, which we achieved perfectly with invincible between beautiful passing triangles and defensive solidarity. We are still trying to find that balance but would certainly brand our football as some of the slickest even if it isn't what it used to be.
But the arsenal of now is closer to the arsenal of golden years than Cescs arsenal ever was.

By n8 Go To PostPep would be an evolution of our current playstyle, pick youth players and look to impose himself on football matches.that's a myth. He even kicked Emre Can and Pierre-Emile out of the club
Three pluses over Mou in my eyes.

Who was it that was looking to pick up the Metro games? Whoever it was can pick up both in a bundle for £6.24 on Steam.

Did we lose him permanently to CSGO? Is there a buyback clause?
I watched Arse/City late last night. Entertaining match. A few thoughts...
- Joel Campbell isn't very good, but he was working hard trying to do everything he could to help. And he did. His hustle play led to their second. Not sure he's a long term solution for their aspirations but I was impressed with his effort last night.
- Arsenal back four did all you could ask for them given the opposition. Aguero was largely marginalized and Bellerin in particular played really well with his movement and positioning.
- Kevin De Bruyne is City's best player right now; Silva isn't back yet; Delph is out of his depth in this squad; Yaya was going through the motions and seemed uninterested for huge portions of the game.
- Mangala and Otamendi seem like they have very little communication. I counted at least three instances where one would step up for the trap while the other stayed running with an attacker keeping everyone onside. The numbers don't lie, they're very clearly missing Kompany.

I should probably explain myself. TFA spoilers ahead.
I loved the beginning. I really did. The whole first third (two fifths?) of the film, actually, up until they meet Han Solo. Both Finn's and Rey's characters were set up brilliantly and they certainly cast the right people for the role. Oscar Isaac gonna Oscar Isaac, goes without saying, although I found his character to be a bit thin. I guess he'll play a bigger role in the sequels. Also absolutely loved the initial locations and some of the desert shots were just gorgeous. So far so good.
Then … uhhh. Should I have read some of the extended universe novels before going in? I mean, they explained what happened between E6 and E7 … kinda? Didn't care at all for how the First Order was introduced. Or even that it exists in the form it does. In fact, the whole derivative action-packed slide down the you've-seen-this-before slope that followed kinda took me out of the experience and the movie didn't manage to pull me back in, not fully at least, which really left me dissatisfied. Was it fun? Sure, I guess. It would've been much more fun if they had taken it in another direction. I'm not even someone who's seen E1-6 a dozen times and I still felt the full force of the rehash. Homages are one thing, parroting whole sequences and scenes and plotlines and evil antagonists … sorry, no. Just no.
Also, why the rush? Why start the new trilogy with such a bang. Why set up a state of the universe that feels very much like the old one, just with new faces and new names. Further more, some of the 'reveals' really bothered me. Will they explore what happened between Luke and Kylo "Ben" Ren in E8? Tell us lowly non-SW buffs what the Knights of Ren were all about? They better. But why not make sense of it in the first film of the trilogy, as the common practice goes? That's where JJ should've played it safe.
Shanks was right about JJ fucking up the supposed emotional peak of the film. It fell almost completely flat, but not necessarily because of the specific scene between Solo and his son, but because how poor & rushed the development of their relationship (or should I say the information that there is in fact a relationship) felt. You don't kill Solo in the first movie, ffs. You kill him in the second, after he and / or his son / Leia were given enough screen time to explain the whole bloody family affair and allowed it to further escalate, until that fatal & unavoidable moment arrives.
The more it went on, the more it felt like TFA should've been the middle part of a trilogy, which was really weird.
On the whole I'd say I enjoyed it, certainly more than Return of the Jedi, which I saw a couple of days back in preparation. So … yey?
Dunno, JJ Abrams is basically a not-bad Michael Bay.
