Arsenal, efficient?
When I think of efficient sides, I'm reminded me of the Chelsea of a few years ago that would defend very well and then hit you on the counter. Arsenal, however, never look convincing without the ball. Someone here said last night that they willingly concede possession in order to counter. I'm not so sure that is the plan. We cant use that excuse every time they lose the ball and fail to hold it. When City got their goal back and Arsenal failed to hold it, was that them willing to give it up to the opponent? No? Or was it them just unable to hold the ball?
Sure, they are taking their chances. But I wasn't convinced. Had that match gone for another 5 minutes, City probably would have equalised. Those last 15 minutes was quite impressive on their part. Despite Arsenal taking the so-called 'efficient' mode of sitting deep, City found space to move and pass. Just like Bayern did. Their chances in the box were the best opportunities in the game from either side. Had they found the net again, I wonder what the match review would have been of people like Ramsey, Bellerin, Flamini etc and Arsenal's title aspirations.
I'm happy with the result, but I don't believe we're seeing a counter-attacking side being effective here. Rather, a possession-team being poor at retaining possession and relying on individual moments of brilliance from one or two of their players.

Meus its clear we were happy with giving them the ball and sitting back. Go watch the match again. Second goal was literally us capitalizing on a misplaced pass, thats what counter attacking is.

Portuguese papers saying that if we pay Mou less than what he was paid at Chelsea (likely given he was getting paid £12 million a year whereas LvG is getting £6 million) then Chelsea will have to pay the difference up to £12 million in the first year only.
So if we get Mou on a £6 million a year contract then in the first year Chelsea will have to pay him £6 million.

I understand why you say this but I disagree. Whether you feel we are convincing or not is different story but we are 100% giving up position in order to hit them on the counter. It comes down to how you set your defense, if you want the ball you have a high press, close in packs, cut off passing lanes alot higher up the pitch, you use up alot more energy but you are more likely to win the ball back by either error or forcing a long ball. When you sit deep (as we did, especially after going 2-0 up) you're conceding possession by always giving them an out by having the CB or the deepest midfielder on as a pass, the passing lanes will generally be open up until 20 yards in front your box and it enourages everyone to get forward. Which is what we have been doing since last season in so called big games, say what you will but look at our big games we've won this calander year:
2-0 Man City
4-1 Liverpool
2-1- Man utd
1-0 Cheslea
3-0 Man Utd
2-0 Bayren
2-1 Man City
And guess what in every single game we had less possession than our opposition, it's happening far to often for it to just be a fluke now.

Talking of sleep/dream
the other day I am not sure if I had sleep paralysis or a seizure.
I was in my bed and rolled over and then was on back when all of a sudden I can't move, my breathing is fucked, my heart is pumping, and my brain feels like it is vibrating. Ten seconds into this experience and my left ear starts ringing and my eyes are starting to shut. I feel like I am doing all that I can to keep my eyes open and stop myself from dying. I am trying to move a part of my body, but can't. The experience must have lasted about 30 seconds
It felt like I was awake the whole time, and i didn't do a snap and jolt went it ended. It was just me still on my back with my heart starting to go back to normal and me still breathing heavily.
It was like nothing I had felt before. i genuinely thought I was dying and that if i closed my eyes then that was the end of me.
I don't know if it was a case of sleep paralysis or if I was actually having a seizure. It was absolutely terrifying.

You keep the ball. But my argument is that Arsenal are not as good as they used to be with that. And when they do 'decide to concede' the ball, are they set up well defensively? No. Do they look solid? No. They don't press. They're not really an aggressive side. They're not particularly great defensively. They aren't a team built to soak up pressure, and so what you find often is them holding on and then trying to break. But they 'hold on', unconvincingly. Look at the first 30 minutes of yesterday and last 15. Utterly hopeless. If we actually look at these games rather than brilliant flashpoints that put them ahead, we see a lot of signs to worry about.

Jese being linked with an Arsenal winter move.
Honestly I think he should leave as soon as possible, we're doing him no good by keeping him on the bench. One thing we've been so bad at is developing our youth, Jese could have started or be subbed on in so many games but we just let the BBC be BBC. The whole marketing/TV value and having to play BBC for that airtime is getting on my last nerve, like I'm done with the Perez policy. It's great when Perez's policy works (La Decima) but that is so rare and few. How many titles have we lost? How many titles have our competition won the past decade? The whole 'Galactico' policy simply does not work any more, we need to somehow go grass roots and develop our youth.
I am fan through and through, Raul brought me into following the team way back, but this this era (outside of La Decima) has been a disappointment and is making it more difficult to really like the club's approach going into the future.
What irks me the most about this situation is that Jese has really fought for his play time, he deserves it. But sadly I think even he now knows he'll never get the minutes, there are way too many big ego's sucking up the oxygen in the room.

Unless your Barcelona or Bayren, most teams will drop deep because defending takes priority. I'm assuming your thinking that if the opposition doesnt have the ball they cant/wont score but against quality teams that doesn't work. When you keep the ball you're positioning becomes about moving into space that allows you to receive the ball, these positions are typically not defensive positions and against teams of quality, who will give you a hard press you'll be susceptible to loosing the ball and leaving yourself even more exposed. Thats why you drop off to focus on defensive positioning, let them come at you in numbers which inevitably leaves them exposed. I'm denying that Arsenal havent often looked shakey when defending I'm just trying to explain the logic behind why Arsne has been right switch from trying to play a possession based game all the time. Its what we've ben criticized for years, turning up, dominating the ball and getting hit in the counter, its how man utd beat us for like three seasons in a row or something, until last season I record against the top teams have been awful. Despite what it looks like the change in tactics have resulted in a change in outcome.
