Any Linux heads here?
Ive been in this Red Hat Sys Admin training vlass this week. Gotta wrap my head around this for my new job. I was feeling cocky as fuck until we got to permissions or something and my ass promptly started to drown. At this point im trying to get back to the surface. I gotta take part 2 in a few weeks too.
Whew
Its basically like learning anothet language, and like a language you only get better with practice. Anybody got some tips or good references for learning RHEL?

Best thing to do is toss RHEL on a personal VM and just dive in and try to get familiar.
Practice some basic shell scripts (Google/Bing/StackOverflow come in handy here).
Create some users, change their password policies, modify permissions. You won't know everything and that's fine. Get acquainted with finding the answers online. If you still have the course material from before then just keep practicing with it.
And only use the terminal.

Any good forums for newbies or help on general that you're familiar with?

It sounds counterintuitive but you can get pretty far with just using on-the-spot web searches. Do a search for setting up a RHEL or CentOS VM.
Now, the question I have for everyone else (sharp?) is which VM is (1) easy to setup and (2) free? At my job I've been using an enterprise license to vSphere and I run Linux natively at home so I'm a little out of touch with what are the best personal use VMs.

Grab a free box and put ESXi on it or just put VMWare VMplayer on your current machine.

What's your new job, Smokey?
