I've also made scrambled eggs with cold cuts (sliced turkey, sliced ham or sliced chicken) and sliced cheese because I didn't have any sausage, bacon or shredded cheese on hand.
Then there's the classic tortilla + slice of cheese + sliced cold cut roll-up when I'm out of bread and don't want a cheap burrito from Taco Bell.

By PSYCH! Go To Postor wrapping cheese around a hotdog, putting it inside a pair of bread ends and microwaving it
I'm guilty of doing that too - though usually with like sliced turkey as I don't buy hot dogs too often.
i've been going to bulgur and chicken breast this last week.

I left some rice inside the rice cooker for about 4 or 5 days. Is that still edible if I put it in the freezer?

You tripping right now.
I'm just going to let that comment segue into a post about how there are so many different regions of cuisine in China. If you spent your time in most of the US you would think everywhere is just chow mein, starched and sauced meat, and fried rice.

Had a McDouble, McChicken, and small fries for dinner tonight.

How you make so much rice you leave it for 4-5 day especially when it is not even warm. You shit on us eating uncook meat and rare steak thinking like we going to get some parasite but the way you eating you more likely to get some food poisoning than us
You should not even be buying those 20-25 kilo bags of rice and letting it sit anyway. Rice not cook do not have infinite shelf life unlike some of the people I see buying in bulk and letting a bag sit and last them a month or so. Even after preserving with salt or pickle.
Why you wanna freeze rice. Fresh cook rice especially high grade rice gives you a very warm and amazing feeling.

I don't know I like having a fresh bowl of rice all the time. It is not even that long to cook it.
it is so warm and so filing.

By P S Y C H Go To Postmicrowaved rice and fresh rice taste the sameThey really don't, but we come from a culture where the word for "meal" is literally "rice."
My Zojirushi cooks rice in 15 minutes. I prepare some other shit and it's done by the time I'm ready to eat.
I rarely have leftovers, but when I do I tend not to use them as a side dish. I repurpose them for fried rice, omurice, chazuke, stuff like that. If I'm eating it plain it's gotta be fresh.
Doesn't taste the same but Japanese people eat frozen rice and or instant rice all the time so the whole ご飯 means meal thing is a little shakey... I used to be on the only fresh rice thing until I learned how to freeze it and when..

I wasn't meaning to give you crap ... just frustrating to see while my lawn goes brown.
Not saying that it isn't a thing. There is plenty of instant options. I'm just saying a warm and freshly cooked bowl is always best.
I am not about that 20-25 kilo bag rice life. I go to the market regularly. I want variety with my shikumai and genmai too.
I know this a shit food instant food topic but at least have some kind of standard instead of just around eating baby star ramen snacks and dip senbei and vegetables in miso.
Or getting fry chicken from a convenience store and throwing that in a cup ramen.
cracker and jam is fine but you out here leaving rice wasted for 5 days man. this do not sit right with me.

Rice is serious business Psy.

No but my girlfriend likes to use shiro miso as a dip for everything like hummus. It is sweeter and lighter and she has a tub for herself to just eat.

I buy 5kilos at a time and don't eat rice everyday and go through 5 kilos in like 3 to 4 weeks... that's 10ish lbs
I mean leaving rice in the cooker for a week is some different shit but I don't understand how you storing rice for a few weeks or the market for a few weeks is any different

nah it is because i like variety. Make different trips since shikumai and genmai have different shelf life. and it is a personal issue i have just letting things sit. I hate wasting food or having things expire in general.
And I go to the market like twice a week for sales and for fresh ingredients.
That and when you biking and walking I can only carry so much at a time.

By P S Y C H Go To PostUpdate. I ate the 5 day old rice and I'm feeling okay.really... I have left rice, by mistake, in a cooker before and it dries the rice out and turns it yellow after a few days
By blackace Go To Postreally… I have left rice, by mistake, in a cooker before and it dries the rice out and turns it yellow after a few daysReally? Mine looked like rice. I had to sprinkle some eater on it and microwave it though.
I use my rice cooker so often that I've never forgotten stuff in there longer than overnight.
Also freeze whatever I can, including meats and bread. I also stock up on dry stuff that takes forever to go bad (sun dried tomatoes, dates). Pickled stuff is good too (umeboshi, spicy beets).
End result is I almost never waste anything.

By blackace Go To Postyeah I hate wasting food too… Do it way too muchI'm exactly the same. I minimize food waste by picking a select few ingredients that I can use in a lot of different ways.

When I get a better kitchen situation going a rice cooker is high on the list. What are some good ones anyway.

This model came out early last year. My friend buy one and loves it.
What is your budget? You can do a lot of things with it like cook eggs and make bread and other things depending on the model and size.
Or do you want one that is not electric?
No budget for now, so any range is good, mostly just curious about consistency and how hard or easy it is to fuck up.
+1 for Zojirushi. I use something very similar to what Shun posted.
It's almost impossible to fuck up, just follow the markings for water and rinse your rice a few times before you cook.
You're also supposed to let the rice soak a bit before cooking but often I ain't got time for that. My mom always looks at me like she's ashamed of me when I skip that step.
