Kobe just announced this will be his last NBA season. He's retiring after this year.

By 3SidedPolygons Go To PostI'm just not enamored by his APG. He's clearly a very very good passer but everyone on that team is. They lead the league in assists and Steph's not averaging 12 or 13. That tells me what the eye test confirms, everyone makes the extra pass and Draymond is getting a huge chunk of that because he's the intial roll man off a lot of Steph PnR's.
Honestly every great PF of this era has been a great passer almost. TD/Pau/Blake/Webber are really really good. And then KG/Dirk are rock solid too. They just played on systems that didn't generate as many open looks to a bunch of super high efficiency players.
FFS - they've got SEVEN guys that shoot the 3 above 40%. Another guy that shoots it at 39%. that's unheard of and every open look has a higher than 50% chance of going on. It's just crazy.
This is why you can't just "pace and space" and beat them. You don't have the shooters. Then some teams like the Lakers and Philly and Sacramento and Nuggets and Wizards are showing why it's not a universal formula for success.
Honestly any team trying to play that way is wasting their time for as many years as golden state is around. You need to build a team with different strengths, slow down the pace of the game dramatically, have a hyper elite defense that can match theirs, and hope when you face them in the playoffs, like 3 or 4 of those guys go ice cold from 3 for the series. You don't have a shot otherwise.
yeah I am not sold on the greatest passing part too which is why I asked
Kobe was the player who got me interested in basketball. Going to be weird watching the NBA without him.

By blackace Go To Post. How many millions reasons again to finish this season? 22, 23?
By vic Go To PostHow many millions reasons again to finish this season? 22, 23?
I understand why he will finish the season... just that he shouldn't be playing... even when Bird couldn't stand straight he was effective when he could play
it would've been more impactful last year cause now everyone can see how bad he is and laker fans at this point are more frustrated and annoyed with him than nostalgic
Kobe shouldn't have even played this year. He's gonna waste this season being mocked and playing like dogshit.
By blackace Go To Postwell if his coach had a spine he would just play 20 mins a gameyea. he'll probably play less by the end of the season compared to now.
By diehard Go To Postat what record do yall start working up the courage to apologize to DY49-33
It was only a matter of time. I'm happy that he's announced it and is doing it from his own side of things.
I have the upmost respect for that.
Regardless of record, it won't be the same without him.

Not the biggest Kobe fan but much respect to an amazing career.
I can't deny he is one of the NBA greats. While he should retire now, no man should give $20MM+ for no reason.

Its hard to believe that anyone can call Shaq underrated, but he's been away from the game for so long, I think people forget about him. I'd say Shaq's offensive peak was far beyond Timmy's but TD always, in my mind, played better defense. And of course, TD played consistently great longer than Shaq did.
By shun Go To PostHow was the Spurs Mavs game?
It was pretty awesome. My gf's mom is in town, and we decided that would be the game to take her too. I have NO idea why the Mavs didn't try to get Dirk more shots, but I'm grateful they didn't. The Spurs were switching on him on the pick and roll, so TP and Manu were guarding late in the game. He just shot right over them. Seeing Kawhi down that later 3 pointer to ice the game and then defend Dirk on the other end was amazing to watch in person.
I'm getting nervous...
By PSYCH! Go To PostHow's Chalmers Vic?His shooting pct regressed since his first 3 games in MEM. He's good at getting at the line tho.
Can we not realgm it up about Kobe vs. Timmy vs. Shaq? I mean, do it if you want, but this is well-trodden ground and the discussions are boring.
