What do you guys do to study and get classwork done?
I swear I suck at this full-time student thing. I got no problem studying what I need to for a job or something, but the moment I sit down and try and bang out a paper on some trivial bullshit my mind evaporates.

By PSYCH! Go To PostDoes your career path require a degree?ehhhhh not really
I'm not even to the heavy shit (which I'll probably take more seriously and handle better tbh). I just drag ass through assignments instead of banging them out like I know I should.
What I did was quote and paraphrase sources and get a B- for failing to adequately expand on my own ideas beyond merely saying "X agrees with me." I'm a really good writer so I could skate by on grammar and structure alone when I didn't give a shit about the subject of a paper.
Bring the teacher an apple once a month if you really wanna appear to give a fuck.

I'm thinking of just making the commitment of putting myself in the library for an hour or two a day regardless of workload
Easiest motivator I found for myself during my freelance days was getting my ass into a coffee shop with my laptop and surround myself with other people working.
It was the equivalent of my gym routine. The hardest thing wasn't working out, it was getting to the gym.

By DY_nasty Go To PostI'm thinking of just making the commitment of putting myself in the library for an hour or two a day regardless of workloadThat's not a bad idea. Like, I always had to start working on my papers in advance and just slowly whittle away for a couple of days. Coming back to the same thing repeatedly helps me see the faults. I can look at an essay point the next day and realize, oh, that's not any good, then totally rework it.
But I'm also a crazy person and really harsh about my own work and need the time to really pour over a thing. Studying was the same way. If I didn't hit my notes like a week before my test, I probably wouldn't do great.
Alpha Brain and sometimes "medicinal" aids. Use the one hour rule. One hour of studying after you wake up then another hour of rest. Yes, you study before a shower then go over stuff in the shower. Basically tick-tock your way to success.

I refuse to grade students who do that. I can't believe teachers accept it.
By Gabyskra Go To PostI refuse to grade students who do that. I can't believe teachers accept it.I don't think I had a professor that would've been alright with that. The sources had to help me make an original point.

This. Otherwise I end up screwing around.

Go to school in a place where the teachers expect nothing of the students to begin with and you'll be amazed at what is allowed.

Getting outside of the apartment is my biggest motivator.
procrastination is a motherfucker
me personally, I just have to start doing the task. Get into the game and the rest will flow from there.

I learned to write my papers with a couple beers under my belt and then edit them over coffee in a coffee shop. Worked really well for me.

I did the same shit. It wasn't until my freshman year of college that my professor called me out on it and I explained why I did it. It's easier for teachers and professors to just give you a B/A if your paper is mechanically fine. It never mattered what I was writing about, whether I knew what I was talking about or not. As long as I pretended to I got A's.
Why would I put in more effort to get the same grade?
I started taking mostly online classes near the end of my college career because I couldn't be fucked to A) Attend B) Engage and C) Attend.
Business major so tons of group projects, which I'd just do for the group because nobody could ever make it to an after class meeting etc. and I insured a good grade on the project.
Essays could never do untill hours before deadline. The pressure helped my bullshit flow. Papers weren't that important to my final grade either. It was mainly the group project and midterm and final that made up 85% of my grade.
Know how easy it is to take a mid term or final online at your house? Really easy.

Whenever i needed to study i almost always removed myself from the house, and into a library or lab. Trying to do work at the house was too impossible. Between gaming, sports, and internet aint shit getting done at the house.
Agreed with the online thing. Lectures are worth nothing 90% of the time. The time to travel to class and lecture is better spent grinding on YouTube and Khan academy.
I avoid campus like the plague if I can.

Online classes were an excuse to mess around too much for me. The act of going to class was fine. I think it mostly depends on your professors whether or not going to class is worth it. Ask around or find the local dish on which teachers are worth your time. I had some excellent art history teachers that made me glad I attended class.
Early Giant Bomb content got me through a lot of homework in college. I don't know why, but watching GB videos really helped me study.
The only homework I dragged on were for classes I didn't care about (so 95% of them). I never liked going to lectures because they were always boring as fuck, and don't get me started on any sort of group work. I usually fucked around and waited until 2 days before the test to study when I normally had weeks to do so. I usually did fine but man the stress. Had some interesting experiences though, nothing too crazy since I commuted to school. Such as:
- Dude in class was talking during the lecture and after being told a few times to stop the professor GOT IN HIS ASS. Yelled at him, kicked him out of class and I didn't see the dude again after that. He did need to shut the fuck up though, so that was satisfying.
- The teacher of this class I was taking was in her first year ever as a teacher. Almost a week before every test she'd give everyone a study guide that was literally a cheat sheet. It had every question that ended up on the test and the answers in the back. People of course came in the day she'd give out the study guide and not come back until the test over a week later so the classes would have like 5 people in it instead of 35ish. She seemed sad as hell that no one was showing up to classes. Next semester I took the lab class she had taught the semester before and she was gone even though her name was on the class when I signed up. I was told she quit very suddenly and moved to Arizona.
- After about 4 classes into a semester the professor stopped showing up. And never showed up again. For months until the semester ended. Never got a straight answer from anyone about what happened to him. Everyone got a B for that class.
- In a history class there was a girl who would come to class late and looking a hot ass mess, and she ALWAYS looked like she had just got done crying, I'm talking eye shadow running down her face and everything. Every. Class.
So, one day the professor asks her why she always looks that way and she proceeds to reel off the most convoluted, drama filled story I've ever heard. And he keeps asking her really intimate questions about her life. Her story was some shit about her mom paying for all of her shit but not giving her quite enough for books, so this was "ruining her life". This went on for 15 minutes in front of everyone in class and it was like an episode of Dr. Phil. Or Maury. Probably Maury.

I just got the synopsis from him through an email and I'm seeing the same exact thing. Notes posted online, only like 5 tests for the entire semester, attendance is lax (plus I'm military so ppl are like whatever when it comes to that kind of shit). I should probably care a lot less about this class.
And stop buying books before the first week of class too.
Yeah, not every class deserves the maximum effort. If the notes are posted online and such, eh, you can probably get away with not trying all that hard.
And I never had a book for day one of a class. Way too many times, a professor would say, eh, I'm not gonna use this that often. Or I would realize they would never actually test on readings, so I could get away without actually buying them. Which happened even at like the 400 level. I have no idea what was in any of my journalism textbooks because I never had one.

Only the hardest classes deserve the most attention. The easiest ones, I honestly did the bare minimum. But I'll say this though, I ALWAYS went to class -- not because I thought I needed to listen to all the lectures, but because if stopped going once I'd just end up skipping every class after that. That's just the way my mind works.
Also this is gonna sound dumb, but I felt like I had TOO much free time in college. I need to work to keep myself in motion, and with all that free time I was just sitting around playing Modnation Racers all day in my underwear just because I could. lol
