wtf.
By blackace Go To Postexcept to FlipThe guy that drafted him?
Everyone around the team talks about how Towns totally wowed them. Garnett and Rubio say they only needed to see one workout, etc. So I don't think it was ever that contested. What's probably closer to the truth is that Flip didn't have the time to scout college players while also coaching, but his pick became obvious once the he actually started the process.

that is a really different narrative than what was being reported but love the creativeness

They literally did not even invite Russell or Okafor to a workout. There was no waffling other than possibly gamesmanship to fuck with other teams' draft boards
Coach Nick said Randle looks like Barkley in transition and Shaq strong in the post with how he hammers his man with his shoulders.
Coach was one of the first on the Clarkson hype train too.

By PSYCH! Go To Posti think it was only on publication/writer that was reporting that flip was unsureChad Ford kept saying it. Ultimately, I don't really care how Flip arrive at his decision because he made the right pick. He's actually done a good job assembling this team. The trade for Shabazz and Dieng, trading for Wiggins, picking Towns, he's a totally solid GM. (something something Payne)
Minnesota easily has the most enviable young core. Rubio/Wiggins/Towns, even shabazz should fit inwhen roles get clearer.
If shabazz is as good as he seemed to be when he played last season then he already fits.
Better than Lavine, currently at least.

By PSYCH! Go To PostIf shabazz is as good as he seemed to be when he played last season then he already fits.Bazz might be better now. He's looked real solid the last couple of pre-season of game. The 3 point shooting seems real, his assists numbers are actually respectable now (he's a more willing passer for sure), the rebounding is solid for a guard. He's a damn good player. I think I might like him best as the sixth man, though.

Flip pretty much lucked into Wiggins/Towns though. Lebron happened to go to Cleveland and Rubio/Pekovic happened to get injured. He wanted to reload with Klay Thompson, David Lee and win 42 games every year, not to rebuild as evidenced by the Thad Young fuckery.

Lets hope they learned from OKC

He should get some credit for not biting on any of the myriad of bad Love offers, though, like whatever Boston and Golden State were peddling.
By reilo Go To PostSaying Wolves lucked into Wiggins/Towns is like saying Rockets lucked into Harden/Dwight.so yea?
Team Building in the NBA, and one could argue every sport, is about a lot of luck. We could be sitting here with Wiggins/Towns/Noel instead of loooooool. The Cavs could have not gotten Bron back without their lottery luck (that they almost fucked up). The Spurs legit have built off of HOF talent falling crazy late in drafts. Scouting play a major role in it too so its not all luck (as evidence by most tank squads who stay tank squads), but yeah sometimes being in the right place at the right time with the right ammo helps.
By Shun Go To PostWas the 3-peat Lakers luck or was it just burning all your money for Shaq?Certainly some of it was luck. They could've very easily lost series to the 00 Blazers and 02 Kings and only come away with the one title.

Understatement of the year. Eh, the 07-2011 team was more enjoyable for me than the 2000-2004 team. We weren't playing crappy Finalist teams, we weren't winning a bunch of games in the low 80's with an era of basketball that made scoring seem like pulling teeth. our bench and depth were a lot better and we legit relied on more guys like Odom and Bynum and Ariza than just the top heavy Kobe/Shaq teams.
8 Kobe was better, but that's mainly due to the Achilles and subsequent injuries. If Kobe the last 2 years was 85% of 2013 Kobe - the 2007-2015 version would have been just as good if not better than the 1996-2006 version.
I like Kobe
but I've had more fun shitting on him than any other player I can think of
it literally makes me smile every time

Kobe Bryant Courtside 64 legit got me into basketball.
and despite his comments about not being from Philly (he isn't Lower Merion is like another world and shit), he is the best thing the city has given to the sport in a while....

I find it funny that Zach LaVine was drafted higher than Kyle Anderson as a benchwarmer that didn't even get consistent minutes compared to Kyle Anderson who was a the starting ball handler for UCLA for 2 seasons. I get that Kyle Anderson was really unique and wasn't sure to translate to NBA well but his game developed a lot over the past year.
Shabazz Mohammad is doing better too. I never liked LaVine and my opinion of him was worse on draft night when he was visibly whining and bitching about being drafted by Minnesota. Dude wasn't even grateful that he was drafted in the first place that night. Too far into the Westbrook comparisons and hype...
Would LaVine benefit from being thrown to the D-League like Shabazz was? The NBA isn't doing him any favours.

I thought that Lavine "fuck me" was more of a "wow I was just drafted yo" type thing...
