I think he's a terrible basketball player (it's well-worn territory by now), but it's a really bad look to make proclamations like "LaVine is our starting shooting guard" only to back off a few games later when he isn't producing.
I legitimately don't know what Mitchell is doing right now and it's not just LaVine. It's pre-season, but there should be a pretty clear pecking order by now for his rotation and it doesn't seem like he knows who he should be playing. (Although he did realize very quickly that Payne is a disaster.) Like, he's starting old ass Tayshaun Prince right now with Wiggins at the wings for reasons unknown.

That dropoff lasted 4 months. He shot 37-41% from the field for those 4 months, and he's a 6'10 guy. He got 8 offensive rebounds in like 12 games all month. A Forward getting 8 offensive rebounds in 12 games.
He was ATROCIOUS for 4 months. I'm not saying he's incapable, just let him go a whole season, and not just 1/3rd of it as a legit and effective number 1 option before you use that as an argument.

I'd argue he was still really good in February. He didn't shoot well from the field, but that was made up with a near 97% FT on 5 attempts a game, while still knocking the long ball down at a 40 percent clip. The team was going through franchise changing levels of dysfunction, and he rebounded. And again---playoffs--58 % TS.
We're spoiled a bit with some of the hyper levels of efficiency some stars have gotten playing next to other superstars. It's just much harder to achieve as a solo act.
