By reilo Go To PostBTW, Batum missed half a season (45 games) in 2010 with a torn labrum before the season began:
http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/9993/nicolas-batums-shoulder-surgery
He finished the season (37 games) with 10PPG and 41 3PT% on 3.6 attempts. So, there's a small chance MKG comes back with 35 games remaining and does just fine.
They're saying he's out for the season now, as I suspected. There are numerous severities of the injury. A 6+ month recovery time is on the very high end scale. My uncle after his surgery was in a sling for 3 months, and was allowed some movement after that. And then 4 months of rehab.
oh well. still think we finish .500 or better with batum holding it down defensively. he's not the same type of impact player but he'll keep our perimeter d functional while adding to the offense's new look.
hell of a setback though

41 wins...DY don't do this.
naw, i'm speaking on hope now. before, i was pretty much convinced that we'd be able to just choke teams out and score enough to get by. now we actually need guys to have above average years.

Assuming your team is going to be healthy is exactly what causes dumb predictions from you and Heat fans.

By DY_nasty Go To PostHow many season ending injuries should people be planning for?At least one, I suspect (but I haven't done real research on that, so take it with a grain of salt). But I meant more, even in the absence of season-ending injuries, most teams have several players miss a substantial amount of time. Your Hornets prediction always hinged on everyone being healthy basically all season, didn't it? Not just MKG.

the queens are getting embarrassed to Lillard and a bunch of scrubs.
Collison and Bellini put up like 50 second half points. It will be nice to have a bench this year.
WCS looked good in his first game. Did the things you'd expect. Rondo was fine but had some defensive struggles versus Lilliard. Gay and McLemore were bad. Koufos was Koufos and Cousins was Cousins, but I didn't like Boogie at the 4. He could not chase stretch 4s on defense and was playing from the perimeter on offense.

By db Go To PostWhy you gotta make a comment like that man…I was looking at the stats for the game and saw the blazers starting lineup. Just muttered what the fuck to myself. Get your money lillard
Kings still lost because of Collison and Cousins carry but damn did Lillard carry the blazers with Leonard and Mccollum...
By Shun Go To PostPacers are gonna be the surprise team with a hot streak this year. Whether or not they can maintain it is left to be seen. Syphon to ditch the Knicks for the Pacers again.
Bucks will probably be in the same scenario too, hot streak and do well but might fizz out midway through. Blazers/Hawks syndrome.
Boston really needs a good trade for a star. They're doing well with what they have but Bradley deserves better pieces to coach. Probably 6th seed or perennial 7-8 seed.
Bucks were like the 3rd best D in the NBA. I think they going to be legit
Maybe, people said the same thing about other teams when they went 26-4 for 2 months or 17-0 for an entire month.
Those teams eventually staggered by the end of the season and fell apart in the playoffs.
The Bucks most definitely can be a threat, it's whether or not they can maintain that.

they are going to be better on O now and they are nasty on D.. the east isn't super rough or anything
I mean we said the same for the Hawks and look what happened. Indiana was hot too until they gave up. Portland gave up in 2014 and 2015. It happened to Dallas too. Teams can be amazing then fall apart in both the East and the West.
Bucks will be good no doubt but it's whether or not they can sustain it. Come playoff time they might end up struggling.
Unless I'm wrong by assuming you're saying good as in contender good.

well rosters have runs the Mavs just got old and never could reload.
The Bucks are super young and play incredible D

They went from an amazing 17-0 run in January to a 7-4, 9-7, 4-3 end to the season. Then a 4-2 close win to the freaking Nets, 4-2 to the Wizards, then swept by the Cavs. A team that had such a significant lead amongst their own conference and were competing against the Warriors and even the West for one of the best records. They most definitely started falling off post January and All-Star.
By that time they were going to make the playoffs regardless, they just lost focus and fell off which is what happened to all the other teams mentioned. The Pacers, The Blazers, and the 05-07 Mavs. It happens to teams from both conferences.
In the case of the Mavs it may just be bad matchups but they definitely did start losing focus and continued to do so in winning seasons until they chipped in 2011, a lockout year, then subsequently blew up their team.
Compare this to multiple Spurs teams who usually start slow and end the season on a high note before the playoffs, with varying levels of success.

Not really following the logic... the Hawks went to the ECF and lost to a very talented and still almost full strength Cavs team. They had the 2nd best record in the NBA and even with a 17- 0 month it isn't easy to get 60 wins.. There were only 2 60 wins teams last year. We will see if they fell off from this year but by any metric they were extremely successful last season.
The year the Spurs chipped they won 62 games and had a 14 - 3 first month... man crawling out the gate.. followed by 11 - 4 in Dec..
You really can't win 60 games without having at one monster month and it usually happens in the start...
By diehard Go To PostI liked the Bucks more before that stupid MCW trade
I agree... but I like the team a lot.. real big on them
The issue is that these teams do really well in the beginning and gas out by the end compared to other more successful teams who finish the season strong. It sets the tone for the postseason and although the Hawks were successful, they ultimately fell through from their goal which was chipping a ring. In that regard, they were unsuccessful and gave credit to their critics that argued that the Hawks were not built and ready for the postseason.
They struggled their way to the conference finals after posing dominance against their other matchups in the regular season.
They went 2-2 with Cleveland during the season and we and they expected a more competitive and successful Conference Finals. They left being swept. Not only that but they lost a key piece in Demarre Carol and we don't know how well they will be now that they disappointed post February.
The things those teams I listed had in common were that they reached a midway point with great success leading up to it. Then after that month, they slip a lot and lose out on their seeding and morale. Losing and ending the season weak will affect your morale and your potential success. Had those teams ended strong and looked well prepared for the upcoming post season, they could have found much more success.
A team starting weak but ending strong is much more successful than a team that starts off strong and eventually fall off by the end of the regular season.
I'm not arguing that they won't be good, but they might hit their stride and eventually fall off which happens to a lot of teams. The ultimate goal is to win a championship.
