By GQman2121 Go To PostOzil has never looked as good as he did that summer in South Africa. That one tourney is the reason he's on anyone's radar outside of Germany and that's why Madrid bought him.
He was one of the highest rated youth players in the world. Most major teams had scouted him prior to the world cup.
He was on every major teams radar.

By Esch Go To PostDoesn't make players better? Did you see us at newcastle without him? Or perhaps when he was gone for months with a knee injury, and the minute he stepped back into the side we went from getting bummed by Stoke etc to performing better than any club in the country second half of the season? Our offense is devoid of any creativity without him. If you don't think he gives his all over 90', i don't agree with you anymore. today he was even more active in the second half, taking shots etc. And at Zagreb when we were down he certainly gave his all. His general #miles ran per game is quite high.
I agree that he needs to score goals. and he would if we consistently played what he's good at: counterattacking football.
yeah i guess we will.
after all those ghostzil jokes didn't just pop up for no reason.
By Esch Go To PostFirst the Arse fans said he was world class, a complete playerlooool
then the Barca fans laughed and bragged when they bought him back

Nate said this once before, but it's probably worth mentioning again. Who are the most "consistent" playmakers in the world? Seems like every single one of them are either in and out of injury rooms, go missing for months at a time, get called shit or wasteful by their fans.
It's kind of like with strikers. You can score 15 goals in a year and people will call you worthless.

He's always very good, at least.

24 seasons of playmaking consistency.
I will let you figure it out.

Some one called Ronaldo "wildly inconsistent" today.
The only player that is "consistent" is Messi.
One of the laziest criticisms. I am guilty of using it.

Ozil and Cesc are both players that tend to go missing. They counter this by having moments of brilliance that remind you that they're not simply talented players, they're great players playing at the highest level imaginable.
It's frustrating to watch as a supporter which is going to effect opinions good and bad in both directions.

Both look absolutely awful whenever they end up in positions where they have to act as a needle player in front of a compact defense. Really more about maximizing vision and precision passing into forwards than any sort of dynamic on the ball movement.
By Frustrated_me Go To PostI actually went to Newcastle once like a decade ago to catch a friendly while I was vacationing :lolProbably my favourite post of the day
By GQman2121 Go To PostThat is true. But that World Cup shot him into a stratosphere that I don't believe he's been able to reach since. That's certainly not fair to hold against him but he was just so good that summer. In that particular would cup Ozil also had the benefit of playing alongside players like Muller, who also had a sensational world cup and a German team who counter attacked brilliantly as a whole and were very attacking in their approach.

Ozil at Arsenal is different because we as a club go missing in games and it makes it impossible for a player like Ozil to shine when that happens. What can Ozil do when Giroud/Theo are not making runs, when everything is so slow and pedestrian? He will naturally get the blame because of his price tag and the talent we all know he has but our team really doesn't do him proper justice with our team performances.
Ozil is a natural team player, he needs others around him to be playing well in order to excel further. He is not a Suarez/Ronaldo/Neymar/Messi who can literally take control of a game by themselves create and score goals regardless of their teammates. He's not that type of player, when Arsenal play poorly in attack (slow and lack of movement) Ozil's performance will suffer accordingly.

Since Mata signed for United only Hazard and Toure have scored more goals from midfield. He gets some criticism for drifting out of games, but he's a very productive player.
