You can never get a good read on Baylor because there are only like 4 defenses that can actually stop them and they just blow everybody out in the mean time.

I just hope it's a night game, which will make things even tougher on them. Cold and an inebriated crowd.
Fox has dibs on the Big 12 game of the week, so our game against TCU in two weeks (which will be between two 7-1 teams at worst) is at 2:30, while the OU-Iowa State game is in primetime on ESPN. Sigh.
Yeah I'm counting OSU as one of the defenses that stop Baylor. I actually think they have decent chance to win that game if Rudolph doesn't play like he did against Texas.

Thankfully our running game looks a bit better after some reshuffling on the OL, which should give Rudolph better passing situations. If we don't run for a couple hundred yards against Tech (possibly a worse defense than KU's) then I'll start to get worried again.

Cold and an inebriated crowd.Clearly everyone in the nation wants to see how Bobby Stoops handles our injury-maker Iowa State team. Josh Doctson? We'll knock him out for a quarter. Seth Russell? We'll knock him out for a year. If things keep escalating, Baker Mayfield might be in a coma when we're done in Norman.

So there's no way Jhajuan Seales stays on the team after this DUI arrest, right? I remember being worried about what he would turn into when he played as a freshman but he appears to have gone off the rails a bit since then.

The more humane thing to do would be to help him get treatment, but I would understand if he's dismissed.
Lots of talent but he's probably our 4th or 5th-best receiver now.
By cashman Go To PostWill be pissed if they keep this clown on the team while kicking off my boy LyndellLyndell Johnson was a fucking awesome player, one of my favorites.
Do you know him?
I was on the basketball team with him in like middle school and he was in my graduating class in high school.
By cashman Go To PostI was on the basketball team with him in like middle school and he was in my graduating class in high school.Gotcha. Yeah, I was super bummed when he got kicked off the team. He really would have helped us last season.
By KingGondo Go To PostAlso, it's a fair point that we haven't played anyone yet. But I think our defense is legitimately good and that matchup will ultimately determine the game. Our offense should be good enough to score on Tech's defense.Any offense is good enough to score on our defense, but as the week has been on I've been looking at various stats off and on and I don't think you can really tell much about your defense yet at all so far, good or bad. Going by yards/game on ESPN.com, West Virginia is the best FBS offense you've played thus far, and they're 29th in the country right now; the other FBS teams you've played are 65th, 114th, 107th, 121st, and 97th.
You've still got 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 13th, and 48th left on the schedule.
No doubt. We have a lot to prove.
I do know we have some very good talent on D and we've shut down every team we've played at some point in the game, but we also haven't put together a complete performance. They've also been put in a difficult position by our inability to run the ball and control the clock. They were on the field for over 100 plays against WVU. If our running game can improve to "adequate" it'll take a lot of pressure off of both Rudolph and the defense.
Aren't you guys dealing with some OL injuries?

Just looked it up and we only give up 4.4 yards per play, good for 12th in the country. Tech averages 7.2 yards per play (but only averaged 4.8 against OU), good for 4th. Something will have to give.
Don't get me wrong, we can definitely lose this game. I just think we have a lot more margin for error than you guys do.

By KingGondo Go To PostIf our running game can improve to "adequate" it'll take a lot of pressure off of both Rudolph and the defense.Statistically, Oklahoma's rushing offense jumped from somewhere in the 80s all the way up to 38th in the country after our game. Something like 6 opposing RBs have had season highs in rushing yards against us so far this season. I'm sure your run game will be fine.
What sucks is that I think we would have a pretty good pass rush if we could get in more positions to actually utilize it.
I'll give our new DC credit for one thing: before the season he had a few interviews where he essentially said something along the lines of "I don't know what our yards and points given up will look like, but we WILL fix the turnover issue," and he has certainly done that so far. He's been a pretty good interview all year, actually, he doesn't really pull any punches.
By KingGondo Go To PostAren't you guys dealing with some OL injuries?Kind of. Losing Justin Murphy hurt, but that was a few games ago. Baylen Brown will likely be back either this week or next, nobody's really sure. With Lauderdale and Sadler appearing to be fine now, at least our WRs finally seem to be pretty healthy after having to start 2 former walk-ons in a few recent games. Sadler in particular should hopefully help Mahomes to calm down a bit after looking really flustered the last few games.
By KingGondo Go To PostI thought I heard Clark was hurt too. That was several games ago. He's been playing.
He got hurt against Kansas, then sat the rest of that game because it was Kansas, but IIRC he hasn't missed any time at all since then.

Should be a good one. OSU-Tech games are always... lively.
By José Mourinho Go To PostOops…You can say that again. #YNWA
Brutal missed holding call earlier in that drive.
Still, put ourselves in the position where bad/missed calls like that can affect the game.
Another high stress road finish coming up.

By Karl2177 Go To PostI'm still awake, but it bears repeating: FUCK OFF TEJASGood for you guys. That must have felt good.
In other news, the ACC crew that called the Miami-Duke game has been suspended for 2 games. The conference says they missed 4 calls on the final play, including that one player was down when they lateralled the ball.
I really hope Riley just uses these last games as real-game practice. There's no fucking reason at this point to pretend there's any worth to winning these last couple of games. At best, we can be a spoiler for MSU or Iowa with a win, but a win ain't happening. Get the whole team on the field.

I wouldn't think so but I'm sure patience is running thin.
I honestly don't know. There's "it's a new system", but when you have a record like this you have the aspect of "protect the sellout streak" and "who is going to work for us if we fire you after one year".
But then again, you go 9-3 here and get fired anyway, so good luck hiring anyone.
We're still paying Bo his almost full wage per contract. I don't know if Nebraska can sustain paying 2 former coaches AND a new coach if they were to fire Riley this year. At minimum, I expect the AD to be in hot water.
edit: I went and looked ahead at the 2016 schedule. Ohio State and Oregon in one year.

By cashman Go To PostMakes no sense to fire Riley after one year.I tend to agree, but man this year has been bad for them. Virtually no hope of a bowl game barring huge upsets of Michigan State and Iowa.
I wish they were still in the Big 12. :(
P.S. OP has been updated with the MASSIVE shakeup in the pollls.
I'd just like to comment on how garbage the first CFB rankings are. Should be fired into the sun along with Kyle Field.
By Karl2177 Go To PostI'd just like to comment on how garbage the first CFB rankings are. Should be fired into the sun along with Kyle Field. They are utter bullshit.
To everyone who makes the argument that "it'll all work itself out in the end," fuck that. The inflated rankings of the likes of Notre Dame and the SEC schools will make every win against one of those teams count for more and every loss *by* one of those teams count for less. It's the same self-fulfilling prophecy that the SEC has benefited from for close to a decade. Ole Miss, Aggy and Mississippi State are still in the top 20 with 2 losses and generally looking like shit? Fuck that.
If OSU beats TCU in an upset this weekend, TCU will be perceived as overrated. If Bama beats LSU as they're expected to do, they're back and on track for another playoff appearance.
By Bruh Go To PostI would also like to state for the record how weird it still is to think of Baylor as a power team. We're in a very weird situation right now in that we have two small, private, non-blueblood schools in TCU and Baylor that are both having great success AND have coaching stability for the foreseeable future. Normally when something like this happens the coach gets snapped up pretty quickly by a big name traditional power; Briles and Patterson, though, may be at those schools until they retire.
It's a pretty rare situation to be in for each of them, and they both happen to be in the same conference only about a 1.5 hour drive away from each other.

It would be like if Bama and Auburn started to slowly decline and then UAB all of a sudden became a national powerhouse. That analogy really isn't too far off.

I would say it's almost impossible to imagine Vandy out recruiting 'Bama, but we don't really have to imagine it at all, it's basically happening right now in the Big XII.

Sure they run a fun offense and stuff, but Briles can't be the whole story.
By KingGondo Go To PostWhich leads me to believe that there's no way that Baylor isn't paying players like crazy. It probably is tbh. They're not recruiting at Ole Miss levels but Briles is popular with HS Coaches in Texas who have a weirdly high amount of influence apparently. I don't think there have really been any wtf situations with Baylor getting a recruit over Texas, that offense is just really appealing.
