I'm guessing the whole punishing-rape-victims-for-violating-the-Honor-Code thing isn't doing BYU any favors in the conference expansion game.
By BertramCooper Go To PostI'm guessing the whole punishing-rape-victims-for-violating-the-Honor-Code thing isn't doing BYU any favors in the conference expansion game. All of the off the field stuff has to be hurting Baylor as well, and in a vacuum Baylor isn't nearly as desirable as BYU to begin with.
BU and TCU didn't get much play last time around, either, given things like religious affiliations and enrollment size, but TCU at least has started popping their head up here and there, particularly in siding with Tech and Texas on Big XII votes. Rumor lately has been that 7 Big XII schools want expansion, but they need 8 to approve it, and the three against right now are Texas, Tech, and TCU. Texas is a good friend to have and BU is burning all their bridges.
Even more cases involving allegations of violence against Baylor football players have been uncovered.
By ESPN Outside the LinesIn one case from 2011, an assault at an off-campus event in Waco ended with three football players being charged as well as Baylor and Waco police discussing the incident. Waco police, according to documents, took extraordinary steps to keep it from the public view "given the potential high-profile nature of the incident." According to a police report obtained by Outside the Lines, Waco's investigating officer asked a commander that "the case be pulled from the computer system so that only persons who had a reason to inquire about the report would be able to access it." The report was placed in a locked office.http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/15562625/waco-police-records-reveal-additional-violence-allegations-baylor-football-players
In another case, a sexual assault allegation against a former star player has remained in Waco police's open-case status for four years, which, under Texas open records laws, effectively shields the case's details from public view. The player and the alleged victim deny any assault took place, and in a separate criminal investigation, Waco police noted that officers had dealt with the woman as part of other allegations she had made against various people and concluded she was "deceptive."
Wonder if they're still going to move forward with airing the Art Briles & RGIII episode of Fixer Upper.
Looks like our staff will be at a camp in Oklahoma this Summer.
We've had a lot of success with players from Oklahoma in the past, and I think it's a pretty talent rich area (relatively speaking), so this makes sense. Not that I'm an Oklahoma high school football expert or anything but I know Jenks is nearby, which always seems to have good players, and it seems like I hear about Tulsa schools winning championships a lot.
Surprised we're not doing a camp in Louisiana though. There's been a new emphasis on recruiting there over the last few years, and it's more trouble getting those guys to our campus for visits than it is Oklahoma recruits.

The success of Jenks and Tulsa Union has more to do with the size of those schools than the richness of football talent in Oklahoma. For some reason those schools are much bigger than any in the rest of the state. The last time a school not named Jenks or Union won a title was 1995.
We've had success in Louisiana as well, although I believe we lost the grad assistant who got us into a lot of those recruits' homes.

Also, Bethel finally officially transferring from Tech.

The delusion of fans knows no bounds. I felt like I was going crazy back during the SI "dirty game" series against OSU and as it turned out there was very little to the accusations.
Clearly not the case here though.
Also, lol at BU fans thinking they have the juice to lure Tom Herman.
Briles' daughter weighs in -
Note that her last name is "Lebby," as in she's married to Baylor assistant coach Jeff Lebby, who you may remember as the guy that was illegally on Tulsa's sideline (wearing Tulsa gear) when they played Oklahoma last season. He ended up being suspended for a game for it.
Her brother Kendall Briles is, of course, also on the Baylor staff, and he was also suspended last season, for NCAA recruiting violations.
I'll be surprised if they hire any kind of high profile coach since, at the latest, they'll be hiring their long term head coach around next December, and if the NCAA (who Baylor said has gotten in touch recently) has made a ruling before that point it's not going to be because they got off scot-free. IMO They'll either be under sanctions or awaiting a ruling and they don't have the history to land a big fish under those circumstances.

Nor do they probably have the ability to hire someone like Herman when he'll be the hottest coach in the country. Houston is arguably just as good of a job now.
The Big 12 has announced that they're reinstituting a title game with a target date of 2017.
Unless we add more teams and re-form divisions I'm not in favor of this. Gives your top team a chance for another high-profile loss right before the playoff selection is made.

Plus, AFAIK NCAA rules haven't been changed yet to allow us to even have the game OR split into divisions until we expand.
::edit::
Looks like they will "in all likelihood" go to two 5-team divisions as well. Interested to see what that does to scheduling; I assume we'll still just be playing every other team in the conference once a year, because I can't see them only scheduling 7 conference games, but with 8 games you'd just be skipping one school in the entire conference.

Actually, looks like the rule that allows us to have a championship game WAS passed already.

Makes the prospect of expansion more likely at least, which I'm in favor of just to make the league more interesting.
Still hate this conference.

4 OL commits this week; two Tuesday and now two today. 6 total OL commits already, and good to great offer lists all around.
11 total signees in the last two classes, and now 6 already in this one and it's only early June. 2016 depth chart still looks pretty ugly but here's to hoping the OL depth issues that have plagued us for half a decade or so will finally be behind us in a year or two.

Big XII Requests Full Baylor Information
Looks like they already asked Baylor for the info, and when they didn't get anything decided to take it public.
…On May 24, 2016, the Big 12 Board requested a full accounting of the circumstances surrounding the sexual assaults at the University. At this time the Board is only privy to information that has been made available to the public.
Today, Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby sent a letter to Baylor University Interim President David Garland once again requesting all documents associated with the investigations of sexual assaults at Baylor. This request is for written materials as well as any information that has been conveyed orally to University leadership or to its Board of Regents including, but not limited to, the unedited written or verbal information from Pepper Hamilton, omitting only the names of any involved students. Internal documents pertinent to the investigation have also been requested…

we probably joining big xii -- UT Pres and Chancellor have publicaly supported UH to join the conference

UT has always been thought of as the one school stopping UH from joining. Rumor is UT is playing politics. They have plans to build a huge research center here in Houston and the UH folks don't like it all

In a stunning move, Texas president Gregory L. Fenves posted on his personal Twitter account that Houston "is a huge asset for Texas."
"As we look at opportunities for Big 12 expansion, I support considering Houston for the conference," Fenves wrote.
Shortly after Fenves' tweet, UT chancellor Bill McRaven voiced his support as well.
"I agree wholeheartedly with Pres. Fenves. @UHouston would be a welcome addition to the Big XII!," McRaven posted.
and then state gov
Gov. Greg Abbott took to Twitter, saying any Big 12 expansion "is a non-starter unless it includes the University of Houston."

By KingGondo Go To PostI'm hoping for BYU, Memphis, Cincy and UConn.
We don't need another Texas school.
it's probably going to be UH and BYU
By cashman Go To PostI don't know if the non texas big xii are going to vote for UH thoIt apparently takes 8 votes to accept a new member. I could see OSU, TCU, and Baylor uniting to prevent UH's entry since they'd be hurt the most.
By Smokey Go To PostGondo shookThe mid-tier Big 12 schools need to start standing up for themselves. I really resent UT continuing to act like only their opinion matters.
Let us shine breh
In a vacuum UH is fine due to the student population, market size, and quality of football, but it adds very little value from a TV perspective and makes Texas even more crowded and competitive for recruiting.
It's pretty obvious that UT only wants them in to smooth the way for their medical center project.
Actually Houston would be a big help for the B12 right now, imo. With the Longhorns being down, it almost feels like SEC country here now that A&M is over there. Actually having B12 opponent's playing in Houston is huge. Also go look at UH TV ratings last year, they did very well.
Herman is doing work.
Herman is doing work.
Still don't like the Houston addition at all. Unfortunate that Tech may be forced into supporting them for political reasons.
I'll still be surprised if they actually get voted in outside of Texas literally telling everyone else that they're leaving immediately if Houston doesn't get in and everybody tucks tail. Can't imagine Oklahoma wants Houston in at all and they're with Texas as the two schools that could leave and kill the conference single-handedly so them caving in would be the big domino. The Iowa State President already came out and said a few days ago that a number of the administrators in the Big XII already think the conference is too Texas heavy, which isn't exactly new information but it's significant when people start saying it publically.
If Houston gets in and UT gets their system expansion, UT will probably be leaving in a few years anyway.
I wonder if the Big XII bylaws are going to be modified to add something along the lines of the private schools needing to make available to the conference anything that could be FOIA'd for the public schools.

By diehard Go To Postlets be real, if BYU doesn't get in the Big 12, its like … bigotry or something.I suspect that what is going down at Baylor right now may be hurting the possibility of adding another private religious school. May not completely kill BYU if expansion does go West, as they're a top-tier expansion prospect by most measures, but I think it has to be a consideration.

I wouldn't worry, though, there is about a 0% chance SMU gets in. Their attractiveness to the Big XII makes Houston look like Alabama.
I dunno, why wouldn't the Big 12 add BYU or UH?
Schools like Boise or CSU are more of a long shot, given how weak the MW has been for football.

There are better options than UH, especially if you're a mid-tier Big 12 school like OSU, TCU, or Baylor. Cincinnati, Memphis, and UConn are my favorite options to get to 14.
BYU has more fans and success than a lot of the current Big 12 teams. They would be 3rd in football attendance, 2nd in basketball. In overall sports success would probably only be behind Texas, Oklahoma and OSU.
The only reason i could think they don't get in is if there are 3 presidents that just don't like them.

And it sounds like a worthy cause and a smart wedge issue for LGBT groups to use. All BYU would have to do is amend their honor code to allow LGBT students the same rights to modestly, but openly express their sexuality and I'd be fine with them joining.
Ball's in BYU's court honestly. They'd be cutting off their nose to spite their face if they didn't make the modest changes I detailed.
Their refusal to change will look more and more silly the more time goes by.

Baylor revised their policies to remove explicit discrimination against homosexuals recently.
Here is BYU's amended policy from 2007:
"Brigham Young University will respond to homosexual behavior rather than to feelings or orientation and welcomes as full members of the university community all whose behavior meets university standards."
The bolded part is the problem. As I saw someone on Twitter say, you can "be gay" at BYU, you just can't BE GAY.
Having strict behavior guidelines is fine. But it isn't ok when LGBT students can be singled out and treated differently than straight students for the exact same behavior.

By KingGondo Go To PostI'm hopeful, but we wouldn't see him until next year so my excitement is tempered a bit.
Plus, his plummet down the depth chart this Spring/Summer was apparently due to work ethic issues. Pretty big red flag on a 5 star early transfer.
I certainly wouldn't be opposed to having him transfer to Tech but we've gone ham on WR recruiting the last few years so the roster is REALLY full right now. Only planning to take 1, maybe 2 in the 2017 class.
We have receiving talent, but our big play guys are juniors or seniors (Washington, Ateman, Seales).
