Gottlieb is the impulse pick because he would bring some excitement back to GIA. He was a great player but he's been in the media ever since he stopped playing. Who the hell knows if he can coach.
Tell me it isn't true, Gondo.
It says a lot about the state of the program (and college basketball) though that I'm pretty apathetic about the whole situation. It's quite amazing how bad things have gotten. From a #1 recruiting class in 2005 to last place in the Big 12 10 years later.
Looks like the CBs coach for Texas is gonna get caught up in the Ole Miss crossfire. Probably going to be headed to the NFL.

Saw earlier that Barry Sanders Jr. is transferring to Oklahoma State. First impression was that it wasn't a surprise at all, but my second impression was definitely surprise after he said he would be transferring after he graduates from Stanford in June. Doesn't feel at all like 4 years ago that he was announcing his commitment at that all star game.
He was in Johnathan Gray's recruiting class. Not sure why that surprises me but it does.

And Gray's story makes me sad. He was starting to come into his own before he tore his achilles and was never quite the same after. He ended up tearing it again while working out for the draft and it looks like his carer is over.
Another CFB-GAFer got baned - perfectchaos (a.k.a. Ron Paul). Looks like it's probably a short one, though.
Really wish we could transplant pretty much the whole CFB-GAF community over here. it's the only part of GAF I'll genuinely miss.
And I don't see any reason why we couldn't eventually succeed at doing it.

I should also be able to post more during next season since I won't be going to as many games.
In reference to my post above: my parents have been paying for season tickets for the whole family for several years.
As I've gotten a bit older and more occupied with stuff in my own life, going to 6-8 games per year felt more like an obligation than something to look forward to. Plus I can't even tell you the number of good games from other conferences I've missed because I'm in Boone Pickens Stadium watching an early-season clash against East Bumfuck State.
No need for my parents to spend thousands of dollars a year on us, plus it opens up my calendar considerably.

Actually, not even that. I (sarcastically) took issue with his tone when he banned someone with a "FUCK YOU."

By @philsnewsThe Oklahoma Court of Civil Appeals rules the Joe Mixon punch video IS a public record and SHOULD be released. For those just catching up, OU 5* running back prospect Joe Mixon punched a girl at a bar before his freshman season (fall of 2014 IIRC) causing serious injury (including the fracture of her orbital socket and eye bruising).
OU suspended him for the year, but allowed him to stay in classes, keep his scholarship, and use team workout facilities on his own. On top of that, OU fans have defended him and smeared the girl endlessly. Gross situation all around made worse because the kid is a blue chip and OU fans are particularly tribal and obnoxious.
The tape has been under tight wraps, and it sounds like it's about to be released. According to media members who have seen the tape, the attack was vicious. For reference, he's over 6' tall and about 220 pounds, and the girl he punched was a foot shorter and weighed 100 pounds less.
Hard to imagine he'll be able to stay at OU once the public sees it.
He'll just about have to be gone if the video comes out. Clear video of something steps up the intensity of the issue exponentially. Ask Ray Rice about it while he watches Greg Hardy still playing in the NFL.
Lol. And now the court is saying they don't have a copy of it. It was played in court but they somehow didn't "preserve" it.
I for one am shocked that a court in Cleveland County, Oklahoma filled to the brim with OU fans and OU Law-educated attorneys and judges would make a mistake like this.
I think if the tape comes out it could seriously threaten Stoops' job. He should be thanking his lucky stars they had a resurgent season last year.

When you watch with full knowledge of the physical toll it takes on the players and the massive financial corruption it's hard to stomach.
At least your team has a chance of truly competing on a national level most years. We play for the chance to do ok in our conference and probably get drilled by a program that pays its players like Ole Miss.

By cashman Go To PostThere weren't even any allegations of actual cheating in the leaked documents, but everbody was all like ZOMG CORE VALUES anyways.Wasn't there something in there about Strong having to give back some gifts that she had given him, or something like that? From what I understand (haven't read them myself), there wasn't anything explicit about cheating in the documents, but that is what all of the context points to.
Even If it IS about cheating behind the scenes, honestly I doubt Strong was caught up in that. Probably just called as a witness to the "behavior and activities that are inconsistent with being a role model and responsible caretaker."
Something about the 'Ville brings out the horndog in coaches. Pitino, Strong, and they even hired Petrino back.
So we unveiled new uniforms a couple days ago:
http://www.pistolsfiringblog.com/a-closer-look-at-the-new-oklahoma-state-football-uniforms/
A bit generic for me. No more "Cowboys" across the chest. No more striping on the shoulders or pants. The "bandana" trim is unique but looks a bit weird IMO. Not sold on the font either. But who cares if the kids like it I guess.

Just got news that we have a new JUCO walk-on DE; JUCO all-star, #1 DE in the country.
...That country being Canada. I guess he's technically not even allowed to receive a full ride, so walk-on it is. Don't really expect anything huge out of him but could be a fun story to follow.
Even as recently as a decade ago, when you saw all black uniforms you pretty much knew it was Texas Tech. Even black jerseys with grey or white pants have been worn by Tech as far back as at least the '70s.
This isn't really even a "Xerox State hur hur" thing, either. Now when you see uniforms with black jerseys it could just about literally be any school in the country, especially with the helmet logos getting more and more indistinguishable at first glance (which Tech also is certainly guilty of as well, don't get me wrong). Technically not every school has worn them yet, but with the rate it's accelerating you never know who it could be. In the Big XII alone we've had at least Tech, Oklahoma State, Baylor, and TCU all going all-black.
Don't like all-greys either. They look cool and all but I have the same problem with Tech in all-grays that I do with other schools in all-blacks.

By KingGondo Go To PostSo we unveiled new uniforms a couple days ago:Not too bad, just a bit generic like you said. In addition to me just not liking how many schools are incorporating black as a uniform color lately when it hasn't been one of their colors traditionally (certainly affected by Tech having had black as an official color for decades, admittedly), I feel like it makes too many teams indistinguishable from each other. The all blacks and the black-on-greys in that link could be anybody.

That's a worst-case coaching hire right there. He put the program into a fucking coma.
NFL draft news still counts as CFB news, I guess -
I hold out hope that he'll get drafted in the 7th by a team that is happy with the rest of their draft and wants a flyer on a return specialist, but clearly he is far more of a UDFA type guy. I'm guessing his pro day performance added a few teams to the list of who he'll be getting calls from right after Mr. Irrelevant is chosen, though.

Only real story of interest to me is where Ogbah will be selected. Killed it at the combine. Hope he goes to a good situation because that's all that seems to matter in the NFL. System, coaches, and fit are paramount.
New PAC-12 transfer policy:
The Pac-12 CEO Group – made up of the presidents and chancellors of Pac-12 member institutions – approved a policy prohibiting a transfer from receiving athletic aid or participating in athletics if the transfer student-athlete is unable to re-enroll at a previous institution due to student misconduct, the Conference announced today.
Under the new policy, student-athlete transfers who are ineligible to re-enroll at any of their previous colleges or universities will be automatically deemed ineligible to receive athletic aid from a Pac-12 university and cannot join any university team or participate in their activities.
I'm mostly hoping that Le'Raven clark makes it into the second round, and DeAndre Washington doesn't fall below the 5th.
Not a Dallas Cowboys fan, but their QB situation (and of course my geographic proximity) has my interest piqued. They're definitely still in "win now" mode and have not yet moved on to full rebuilding, but Romo is clearly on the downside of his career and they currently essentially have nothing as far as a solid plan for future starting QB (or even current backup QB) on the roster. If they were picking in the teens it wouldn't be so interesting (as I think a non-QB would much more obviously be the pick at that point) but with their current top pick being at #4 they will be able to ditch "win now" and get a top-flight QB if they want to.

I'm not predisposed to like the Cowboys, but I sorta root for them because of Dez and Dan Bailey.
They should seriously consider Goff. With a couple years as Romo's understudy he could really be something.
Not sure I agree with that Pac-12 transfer policy either. It should be the prerogative of the new program to take on the risk of a problem student, as long as the violation wasn't egregious.

Mike Gundy saying out loud what everybody already thinks about the LHN.
By Mike GundyTexas should eliminate the Longhorn Network or the Big 12 faces more instability, Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy told CBS Sports on Monday.
…
He continued: “You don't have a Big 12 Network; you have a network within the league that people consider a failure.”
…
“Everything is based on marketing,” Gundy said. “Right now the Big 12 is not getting the marketing we need because of the Longhorn Network. Now, nobody wants to hear that but …”
…
“If Texas doesn't [fold LHN] in X number of years, they're going to be in the Pac-12 or SEC,” Gundy said. “If that's what they want, keep riding this horse. If you don't want that, you better make some changes or it's going to happen whether you like it or not.”
By Monroeski Go To PostMike Gundy saying out loud what everybody already thinks about the LHN.The Big 12 is such a wreck right now.
