By Adam Blade Go To PostRIP Iowa.So predictable.
By KingGondo Go To PostWe're losing this game..
Hard to remember this many blowouts in the big bowl games. Not much drama and it looks like we won't be providing any either.
By diehard Go To PostI'm sorry GondoEh, it's ok. This team overachieved to even get here.
Still a disappointing end to the season.
Today's schedule:
Penn State vs UGA: Noon EST
Kansas State vs Arkansas: 3:20 EST
Oregon vs TCU: 6:45 EST
West Virginia vs Arizona State: 10:15 EST
This is when the Big 12's humiliation should become complete, causing us to embarrass ourselves further by adding Cincinnati and Memphis.

By diehard Go To PostBig 12 wont add BYU, so good riddance to them.I'd love to add BYU. For some reason it apparently won't happen though.
And to think we could've added WVU, Louisville, and Pitt all at once to get to 12 teams. Or simply kept the former Big 12 together.
I cannot overstate my hate for this weak conference.
By KingGondo Go To PostTexas is the conventional wisdom frontrunner for Herman, but I think that job is overrated with all the pressure and bullshit media commitments with the Longhorn Network and whatnot.
If I were him I'd wait until a more stable job opens up. This has typically been about when Urbs starts to wear out at this previous jobs.
Or if UH continues to have seasons like they did this year, there is a good chance they get invited to a bigger conference. The university has been going through tons of changes, and it's in a FAR better position than the past. Even when I graduated (2010) it was seen as a commuter school, but the new chancellor went to work. It's no longer seen as a commuter school. I went on campus a few months ago for the first time in 5 years and it is a night and day difference. Incredible changes.
I don't think the following will happen, but for selfish reasons I hope it does, the best scenario is a TCU situation. Patterson was always linked to bigger jobs, but he stayed at TCU. Eventually the years of winning brought them to the Big 12. I'm hoping the same happens here. It will take years of success for it to happen, but there's no reason UH should not be in a bigger conference. TBH the only reason it's not is because of politics of years past. Patterson is also only making about 500,000 more a year than Herman, who by far has the highest salary of a Group of 5 program. If it comes to money, I don't think that'll be an issue. It's getting into a Power 5 conference. We have a top 25 recruiting class for 2016, and it's continuing to get better.
Either way I'm glad he stuck around. UH has been a pipeline for coaching talent for years from Briles to Sumlin. Sumlin bolted quick as fuck when he was here, and that was when we got as high as #6 iirc. I think the fact that UH gave Herman a 200% raise in season shows they are dedicated to stepping up to the plate compared to years past.
I hope Herman stays there. I'd hate to see Texas ruin him.
Knowing OSU's luck he'll succeed Stoops at OU and we'll be little brother for a couple more decades.

FUUUCK I missed it.

By Monroeski Go To PostTIED for largest comeback in bowl history. ; )So you're saying... TCU copied Tech?
Xerox Christian University.
By Smokey Go To PostSo UH lands Kyle Allen. Will have to sit out 2016 season. I see you Herman.Wow. That's quite the coup.

By cashman Go To PostRuin him?The job is overrated. It comes with outsized expectations (a school with an incredible talent/brand/money advantage that has only won 3 MNC), tons of outside distractions (appeasing the 15 mini-Boone Pickens and LHN obligations), and it's lowkey harder than ever because of the increased recruiting competition from the likes of SEC schools and new conference members TCU and Baylor.

None of those kids that they recruit want to specifically play for Miles, they dream about playing for LSU.) but it's still pretty easy for any competent coach to win there. The only reason Charlie Strong is "ruined" is because he inherited a roster with massive holes at QB and OL and zero depth. The booster situation and media obligation isn't going to be all that much better at any other big time program and Herman would have a lot easier time dealing with the boosters for *ahem* obvious reasons.

I don't have any doubt that Herman could succeed there. He's clearly an excellent coach. But the 10 or so truly huge, blueblood jobs in the country come with a lot of extra baggage and pressure. Not sure it's worth it for everyone.
I mean damn: if you can make $3 million/year at Houston and pull in transfers like Kyle Allen, that's a pretty sweet gig. The talent is gonna continue to get better.
What Herman really is doing is getting supreme talent from Houston to stay home. Houston has football talent for days. He's getting big time recruits to stay here. Ed Oliver (DT) is a 5 star recruit. Ranked #10 nationally, 4 at his position, and 2 in the state. Tyrie Cleveland (WR) is a 4 star. 7th at his position, and 10 in the state. Both go to Westfield HS in Houston. Kyle Allen comes in 2017 which is perfect timing. Ward Jr is a senior in 2016. Allen immediately steps in in his absence. Question is will Herman be here in 2017. TBH I don't get the vibe that he plans on leaving, but I couldn't really hate on him if he did. He's getting additional facilities built this year. UH is the third largest school in Texas after A&M and UT. They have resources. It's in a recruiting hotbed. He's making 3+ mill. Sure he could get more from a bigger school , but with that comes bigger responsibilities like Gondo said. I mentioned it earlier, but I compare this situation directly to TCU and Gary Patterson.
Sumlin pulled a snake move and had his bags packed on the last game of the 2011 season when we were ranked #6. Completely distracted the squad and we lost to Southern Miss in that last game. I don't feel bad at all about what he's going through at A&M.

Yeah, I don't think Herman is going to jump at the first P5 team that offers him. He'll only take a true blue blood job, and if he doesn't get one he wants he could probably just build up UH, although I don't know what conference would take them in. He did a great job with H town takeover thing and he'll continue to recruit strongly because of that, but there's still a ceiling there with how the cfb landscape is now compared to when Miami did the same type of thing.
Reports are saying that A&M is hiring Meacham to be the new OC. I wonder how they keep pulling this impressive coordinator hires out of their ass.

Haven't seen full confirmation on Meacham to A&M yet, though. As of about an hour ago Football Scoop was still reporting he was staying in Fort Worth.

Football Scoop seems to be the most reliable source out there right now. I still think it's gonna happen but Meacham was all but hired at UNT and Tulane as well.
By cashman Go To PostLooks like Meacham to A&M is off. FootballScoop is right again.wtf happened?
By DY_nasty Go To Postwtf happened?Looks like a writer from an A&M paysite jumped the gun, and it gathered steam from there.
Guys, this is my bad and so feel free to dog pile on me. We heard from multiple A&M people and then after we posted what we heard Clark posted that he heard from someone at TCU that Meacham was leaving.
I didn't talk to Jeremy until this afternoon and the first info he posted about Meacham leaving did not come from us. It came from someone at TCU. Other people have posted it here on the site.
Considering this is like the third time this has happened with Meacham, I think either him or his agent really like fucking with people.
So, Cash, what's up? Are you added to the list of ex-CFBGAF? Something will have to be done eventually.

No, not quite yet. The ban is only for 3 months, although they did put me on perm warning so my time might be coming soon enough.
A&M' still gonna pay over 1M per year for Mazzone so lol at them for that.
