Ridiculous and tacky tbh.

Speaking of coaches with notable hair, did you see Briles' statement today? He has certainly ever done anything immoral or unethical.
Never mind the fact that in spite of being good enough to get a $200 million stadium built at BAYLOR of all places that the corrupt administrators still forced you out.

If you're capable of reading this article without simultaneously cringing and gritting your teeth you're a better person than I am:
Tyron Johnson to Gondo State confirmed. Not a big surprise.
And he posted a video of himself doing it on snapchat. Investigation over, charged with Class C misdemeanor.

And for this to be Grobe's response:
Really?
David Ubben's preseason predictions: http://sportsspotlight.com/blog/big-12-notebook-82316/
I assume that TTU-SLAENT will approve. I'm skeptical of his confidence in KSU, who was simply not very good last year and didn't appear to do much to remedy that in the offseason.
We're a moderate running game improvement away from being a top-10 contender IMO. The problem is that we play OU & TCU on the road. @KSU and @Baylor won't be easy either. 2017-18 is where it's at for us. We could be stacked with a favorable schedule.

I certainly wouldn't be opposed to 9-3. We're setting up really well for 2017 but have a lot of questions for this season so a game or two improvement would be acceptable.
We've got unproven depth all over the place, and a lot of youth, but at least we're starting to look like a real P5 roster again in scholarship numbers (outside of LB) and player size for the first time in a few years.
Some would say the biggest boost to the program for this season is our new S&C coach, Rusty Whitt, who has been very intentionally brought up a LOT all offseason by both coaches and players; our backup QB brought him up a day or two ago unprompted when asked about how the DBs are doing, for example. He's a former Special Forces super hardass, which we did intentionally to hopefully clear up the discipline and conditioning issues that have plagued us since Tuberville came to town. The players certainly look a lot different now than they have in recent years.

It would be helpful for the Big 12 if some of the programs like Tech, UT, and WVU would get back closer to where they've been in the past.
I'll have to see Tech's defense improve on the field before I believe it.
I'm starting to believe the TCU hype, btw.

By KingGondo Go To PostDavid Ubben's preseason predictions: http://sportsspotlight.com/blog/big-12-notebook-82316/Baylor is like an injury away on the O line from having real trouble to protect a QB coming off a neck surgery. They're pretty thin everywhere except RB and DB. I don't think the odds are really good that they win over 7 games.

That's pretty amazing to me considering they've been so good and recruited so well. Did that many kids decommit after the Briles scandal?
I'm still worried about that first conference game in Waco.

Bob Bowlsby remains very mum about the process that could lead to Big 12 expansion, but one Big 12 school official said 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney has called power brokers, including Oklahoma State’s T. Boone Pickens, lobbying for support for BYU to join the conference.
The odds just keep stacking against us.
I'm sure Boone is fine with BYU. He's a hardcore right winger.
I find BYU attractive in a lot of ways but they need to make some reforms.

Did that many kids decommit after the Briles scandal? They were already thin on OL and DL before decommits for a variety of reasons. Some early draft entrees, some regular attrition, some arrests.

They needed to get some immediate help out of the 2016 recruiting class, but Grobe dismissed their early enrollee JUCO OL and JUCO DL while basically every HS OL and all but one HS DT decommitted. I think they actually added a second DT, technically, but that was really late (like May or June) and he was a guy with literally zero other college offers listed on recruiting sites (as in not even G5 schools).
They've still got a first string that can compete with anybody but if they take on some injuries they could be in a lot of trouble. Breaking in a lot of new players everywhere but the DB group. This is an old depth chart prediction (pre-Briles leaving) but not many bold names in that starting lineup and they've already dismissed OG Hammad, NT Faulk, and DE Nance, plus WR Zamora is the dog-beater so who knows what will happen with him.
Good info. Makes me feel quite a bit better about our chances in week 4.
Our OL returns everyone but I'm not sure if that's a good thing. We apparently have a legit 8-deep on the OL though so hopefully we can find the magic combination that gives us a decent run game.
If we can do that 10 wins becomes my expectation. Passing game is excellent and the defense is talented if a bit green up front. We were completely unable to exercise ball control or protect leads last year because of the terrible run game.
Apparently there's a decent chance we'll start true freshman Justice Hill at RB, even over Chris Carson, Rennie Childs (who got the bulk of carries last year) and Barry J. Sanders. Cracked the 1000 lb mark combined in the bench, squat, and power clean, only the 5th freshman ever to do that at OSU.

Tillman Fertitta, Houston super-donor, is apparently putting up $20 million to renovate their basketball arena. The Big XII push continues.
First game is tonight before the main event starts next week. Cal vs. Hawaii from Sydney, Australia.
10 PM ET.
I'll have a shiny new 2016-17 season OT up next week.

A few days ago I posted that we were looking like a P5 roster in numbers everywhere except LB.
Today, all 3 true freshman LBs we signed this season are in the just released 2-deep, including both the starter AND the backup at Mike. Also featured is an LB transfer from Houston, who was not on the 2-deep there and in fact spent time at fullback for them; he's not a starter anymore, as he was in the Spring and Summer, so I guess that's progress.
OL and DL don't look great as far as depth either but they can at least put together a 2-deep that doesn't include true freshmen, which is literally impossible with the numbers we have right now at LB. We've been doing a pretty good job of rebuilding the overall roster from the depth hell we've been in since Tuberville but we're still probably a year away from being comfortable.

What would you consider to be progress this year from the dumpster fire D of the last couple of seasons?
By KingGondo Go To PostWhat would you consider to be progress this year from the dumpster fire D of the last couple of seasons?I think it's going to be one of those "I can't define it, but I'll know it when I see it" type things. Just want to see some signs of life against the run, and a few big stops in close games. Fewer players being clearly out of position. Mostly I just want to stop having the feeling of complete futility late in the game so often.
If we can keep our turnover numbers at least constant (had a HUGE jump in that category last year) and get the stuff like yards/game and points/game up to rankings in the double digits that would be nice. That would involve jumps of 30 or so rankings for the latter two categories but that's not actually as uncommon as you would think when you're starting from the 100s.
We finally have 4-5 DTs in the 300+ range, and a number of LBs in the 220+ range, so that should help against the run, though we're heavy on transfers and youth so I'll expect a fair bit of inconsistency. Better than when we were rolling out a 260 lb nose guard a few years ago, at any rate.
::edit::
Also no more players going 70-80 plays per game on defense. That's been killing us for a few years now.
I know that feel bro. This is a pivotal year for Tech. That game @ASU is absolutely huge. Win that and you have a pretty good chance of being 6-0 going into the game against OU.
8-4 is my guess unless the defense has truly taken a step or starts producing lots of turnovers.
We've come an incredibly long way on the defensive front in spite of the inconsistency. Our defensive line is far more talented than our offensive line, which is staggering considering where we were a few years ago.
Gundy has recently said that he's hoping for 125 rushing yards per game. Doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.

Arizona State lost 3 starters at DB from a defense that gave up the most passing yards in the country last year, have had some injury issues already this fall (albeit minor, I think), and have started up the "switch WR to DB" process to fill depth. Their front 7 are pretty good, and they're great at rushing the passer, but if our OL gets some gelling done and protects reasonably well we should be able to absolutely shred them.
