New York City police officers have mistakenly detained a former professional tennis player as he waited for a car to take him to the US Open.
James Blake told the New York Daily News that a group of five plainclothes officers slammed him to the ground and held him for 15 minutes on Wednesday.
The police said in a statement that the officers mistakenly believed he was a suspect in a theft case.
Once it was determined that Mr Blake was not the suspect, he was released.
Mr Blake, 35, said he suffered a cut on his arm and bruises on his legs. He said the officers did not speak to him before they pushed him to the ground.
"You'd think they could say: 'Hey, we want to talk to you. We are looking in to something'," Mr Blake told the Daily News.
"You would think at some point they would get the memo that this isn't OK, but it seems that there's no stopping it."

Welp, the arresting officer had several complaints filed against him, this article on him is from December 2014:
Lifetime pass though.
Using that tape and hours of interviews, the CCRB investigators exposed numerous inconsistencies, largely involving the testimony of the arresting officer, James Frascatore.http://www.wnyc.org/story/cops-complaints-and-one-ugly-altercation-caught-tape/
The file shows it was the fifth complaint filed against Frascatore in seven months. That’s more complaints than 90 percent of active officers have received in their entire careers.
The audio recording backs up her allegation that Frascatore never gave his name and shield number when she asked.
In the sworn criminal complaint, Frascatore alleged that he asked her for the bike and she responded, “F— you. I’m taking the bike inside.” Frascatore told the CCRB investigator about a dramatic tug-of-war over the bike.
None of that is supported by Hines’ recording.
Lifetime pass though.

By FortunéFaded Go To PostIt's strange how it took five men to beat him when in his career it usually only took one.Damn.

That was probably the real suspect lol
The plainclothes police officer who tackled the retired tennis player James Blake to the sidewalk during an arrest in Manhattan last month used excessive force, according to an investigation by the Civilian Complaint Review Board, New York City’s independent agency for police misconduct.http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/08/nyregion/officer-in-james-blake-arrest-used-excessive-force-panel-says.html
In a letter sent to Mr. Blake’s lawyer on Tuesday, the board said it had completed its investigation into the conduct of the officer, James Frascatore, during the arrest on Sept. 9 in front of the Grand Hyatt Hotel on 42nd Street in Midtown. The actions of Officer Frascatore, recorded on surveillance video, prompted outrage and happened amid a national conversation over the proper use of force by police officers.
The board substantiated the charge of excessive force against Officer Frascatore and recommended the stiffest punishment: departmental charges that could lead to suspension or dismissal.
