You shouldn't feel too bad, Hezonja barely played. Close game, 28-33. I think Greece should take it in the end anyway.
Gobert just destroyed the rim. France cruising, 37-25.
Spain crushing Turkey inside, 16 points game already at the half, 54-38.

You're right that it's mental. Greece's approach to the game is just more sound, less subject to big momentum swings.

Here's the buzzer beater that just allowed Belgium to beat Lithuania in an important upset today
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8twCMm3TP30
Lithuania was the favorite of the group, but Belgium has been progressing a lot. If Latvia wins against the Czechs, the top 4 teams of Group D are tied.

Jan Vesely (Czech Republic), Dario Saric (Croatia), Andrea Bargnani (Italy), Nemanja Bjelica (Serbia) and Nicolas Batum (France).
I actually think Gobert's reverse dunk from the baseline on a Diaw assist was better than those, but whatevz.

Satoransky, my favorite dunk of the competition so far (he's the European Penny Hardaway, he'd be a good backup to John Wall if they could bring him in. They're currently negociating to bring him next summer)

By diehard Go To PostAnyone else watching Poland and France?Yeah. I thought France would get a 15 point lead but Waczynski made it a game again.
Everyone is tired, body language is pretty obvious. 3rd game in 3 days. I hate that Poland is coming back the same way Finland did.
TOP 5 Plays, day 3.

Elmedin Kikanovic (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Jan Vesely (Czech Republic), Rudy Gobert (France), Patrik Auda (Czech Republic) and Tony Parker (France)
Vesely has been great. Typical case of a player boosted by confidence and comfort. The NBA is often a material and psychological hurdle some Europeans can't manage. Very much like how the other way around, the best Americans playing in Europe are not always the most talented, but those the most able to manage travelling, being in a foreign country and playing within systems that are different from college ball.
The big news of the day, Russia almost out of the tournament. It'll be hard for them to get back on track.
Some really important games for a very open Group B tomorrow.

By knux-future Go To PostHow is Saric playing…..Only 2 games, a tough loss against Greece, Croatia is very talented but they're missing a point guard that will help all the talent shine (Tomic and Bogdanovic are not doing much so far). Saric contributed a bit (avg 9/6+ after 2 games), but so far they're carried by their SG, Krunoslav Simon (20 and 18 first two games). Plenty of time left.
Serbia is so good. That no-respect ball they play. Definitely the best team of the tournament so far.

Soccer fans like emphasis. Italy beat Germany (Gallo balled hard), so some Italians like to call Germans nazis, because that's easier than realizing that fascism... started in their own backyard in 1919.

And as a banner said yesterday at the match, "with you we lost only when we were allies".
It's geography, we fight against France and Germany, because who the fuck is Austria to be treated as a country.
Pls have a laugh some time.
By diehard Go To PostSo i guess if Spain loses to Germany today they are out of the Olympics as well?Yes, since Turkey should beat Iceland. Group B was really too competitive compared to the rest.
Odds are that Spain wins tonight, finishes 3rd. If they don't and Turkey beats Iceland, Spain is 5th of the group, so they're out.
If Iceland wins and Spain loses, Spain is 4th of the group so they would be fine.
In the KO stage, 4th of Group B will play the winner of France/Israel tonight.
And 3rd of Group B will play the loser.
Okay, elimination games now!
Round of 16
Latvia Vs Slovenia
Greece Vs Belgium
Spain Vs Poland
France Vs Turkey
Croatia Vs Czech Republic
Serbia Vs Finland
Israel Vs Italy
Lithuania Vs Georgia
The two most interesting games will be France - Turkey and Croatia - Czech Rep.
Turkey and the Czech Republic, which are underdogs at that point, really are kinda like the 7th and 8th best teams of the continent, it's going to be unfair that Lithuania and Italy go through when they don't...

Felt like Croatia kept fucking up their lineups. They have a lot of talent, but the lineups I saw in the games I watched left me wanting.

They don't have much of a collective sense. It should start with a good PG. Ukic can't organize for shit.
I'm excited for the 1/4 finals between the Serbs and the Czech. Teodosic against Satoransky, the two best PGs or the tournament.
By no fun allowed Go To Postwatched a bit of lithuania-georgia with a lithuanian yesterday… dude was pretty hardcore, hahaha
:)
Yeah it's something Europeans make fun of, how Americans are so tame in stadiums...
One of the funniest experience I've ever had was going to a soccer game, and the Kansas City crowd chanted "you - can't - do - that!".
Cracks up every European I tell the story to.
By Splatt Go To PostFuck Spain.
By Splatt Go To PostFuck SpainHopefully, we will, in the semi-final.
Gasol and Parker delivered today, that felt like a very old school type of day. Giannis was amazing too.
Anyway, we had a good time, sorry Latvia.
That's pretty cool.
Wish I had time & money(mostly money :-( ) to go to Eurobasket...
Will be rooting for you against Spain.

Cheers man :)
Tickets were stupid expensive. The federation is pricing it by comparing it to the NBA I feel, rather than understand that its competition is soccer. You can go see the semi-final of the Euro soccer for 40€, and basketball is MUCH more than that. So what happened? All the more expensive seats were empty! We were 22000 people when there could be 27000.
I grew up playing basketball for a long time. I know the kids who like the sport, they don't have the kind of money required to attend a game. I looked at the crowd, there was literally only a handful of people from diverse backgrounds. The crowd was so white. It's happened in NBA arenas also, but for basketball to grow in Europe, its leadership need to understand their people is not the middle-class. Soccer heads know it.
Two fun games later today. Anecdotally, the best 5 of the competition is shaping up, since they're usually chosen among players of the top 4 teams. For now I think the race looks like that:
2 guards: Teodosic, Satoransky, De Colo, Parker
2 forwards: Gallinari, Bjelica, Vesely, Valanciunas (since he won't be the 5, he can make it there), Maciulis
1 center: Gasol is a lock (Valanciunas, Lauvergne and Gobert behind, but it's not even a conversation really)
If Serbia wins tonight, Bjelica and Teodosic make the cut, otherwise it could be the Czech duo. Parker has had a bad tournament overall, except for yesterday, De Colo was better.
I'm all for a lithuania-france final
fuck spain AND serbia
I hope you're not superstitious gabyskra ;_;

Pau always looks amazing in Fiba play.
He should play for a Spanish club after his contract is up, would be an awesome way to end his career.

Batum going AWOL on those last free throws
I'm disgusted. Huge rant inside of me that I'm gonna keep to myself. Cliffnotes:
- the leadership is toast. Parker and Diaw are liabilities because they're now system players, when they're expected to carry them.
- fucking go on a diet you fat ass
- play Fournier when you need spacing and shooting
- Gasol did us like Wade did the Mavs in 2006.
- France was taking it easy, trying difficult passes, dribbling between the legs, etc. And they felt hesitant doing it! If you're gonna style, commit to it, otherwise it's a turnover.
- the result is deserved.
That was just gross.
