Not the Spurs, But Basketball.
As a phoenix fan, I've been on the other end, more consistently, than just about any fan base ever, of the TD/POP spurs.
When the suns swept the spur in 10 (HI TCB!!!!!!!!!!!!) i think i was intoxicated for 2 or 3 days straight. And i didn't consume much alcohol.
But. How much will Basketball, miss these two.
Whilst the suns re-tune the fanchise, i love how the current spurs play. They're amazing. What TD has/continues to do is beyond belief. What they've meant to a franchise ... the only other playe on that taelnt level I've seen come close is KD. Lucky OKC.
Could you imagine the juggernaut that Pop would put together around KD/LBJ ? if he had either one on histeam, (bias shown, i think KD is much more apropriate), does anyone of us doubt how insane that team would be, with the complentrary players he'd bring in?
Imagine a small ball 5 of Ibaka, Durant, Danny green, Bellenili, YNB. 3 of the 5 on that team shoot the 3 over .400. And two of them are forwards.
Imagine a YNB where he was FORCED to learn team basketballl. NOT athleticisim ball.
So here's the question. What does / how many years does, the NBA lose/regress when/if pop/TD retire together.

If Pop had LBJ....
it'd be a fucking perfect basketball robot monster on both sides of the floor....jesus.
I think the Spurs will be a top team even after Pop/TD leaves, I think that organization is so fucking good that whatever coach is promoted will run that team well no matter what, the NBA will miss Pop's personality most of all since he's one of the faces of the league. He'll still be the president of the team and along with their ace scouting team, they'll always find talent under some rock.
Even the coaches under pop that have left have already made their mark on their new teams. The ball movement that Budenholzer has the Hawks playing with is already great. Brett Brown managing double digit wins win that fucking awful 'roster' is already a feat in itself. Just shows how deep the Spurs are.
also, are you saying that KD is the most talented player since TD? if so, lulz.

I'm not saying KD is the greatest, or anything like that.
I will say, that i think KD is easier to "add" to another superstar than any other super star in a long time because if his lack of ego and his ability o play off ball.
I don't want to imagine the basketball palyer that was LBJ drafted by the spurs. And i'm pretty sure Silver doesn't either. Good lord. If LBJ was as coachable as TD... League really might be done for 8 years.

If LBJ was as coachable as TD… League really might be done for 8 years.Mike Brown was on the radio the other day and was asked if he ever told LeBron to develop a post game.
He said that LeBron did use a post game on the Cavs but just to set up Mo Williams for three and also said that LBJ doesn't post up much for Miami either.
yeah, Pop would have destroyed the league with LBJ.
Also, yeah KD would probably be the easiest to add to another superstar, doesn't need the ball a ton and with his shooting ability....*shudder*
imagine TD/KD or even Shaq/KD(  ) incredibly complementary.
Considering Parker's insane development under Pop, my mind melts at the thought of Pop getting his hands on YNB.
I think KD would be massively improved with just having a legit offensive system to work in. YNB and Durant have to rely way too much on individual talent to get points. One of the things I found interesting is the quote ESPN got outta Kobe about being jealous of Duncan for having played under Pop his entire career........I think it's something we all understand on a personal level. Yes, we're all basketball fans here, but I'd imagine the age on this board is, on average, much higher than GAF so we've all at least been out in the work force for a few years. The way Pop manages so many players and gets the absolute best out of them is something I wish I could experience at work.
OKC has been running that side pick and roll with YNB/KD for the last 5 years. And as far as I can tell, that's the only play they ever call.
Popovich is an amazing coach, unlike hacks like D'Antoni he doesn't a system that he tries to force on his personnel, he figure out what's the best way to win with the players he got.
Early aughts spurs played very very different basketball than today's spurs, both were amazingly effective; I'd argue he's the best Xs and Os coach ever (though Xs and Os ain't everything in basketball).
My mind salivate just trying think about what he would come up with had he coached someone like KD or LeBron, those guys are such uniquely talented (especially LeBron, we never really seen anyone like him) and they're used in rather effective but at the end of the day unimaginative ways.
As for YNB, he has the raw talent to be the greatest PG since Magic, maybe even ever, Popovich would've made him an unstoppable force, his use of Parker shows that you can have a scoring first PG that is still able run a team-oriented offense.
If he wasn't playing for OKC I would've felt bad for him, but he is, and I'm from Buenos Aire.. err, I mean I'm from Seattle and I say kill em all.
p.s.
I know, posted before, I don't care -

I'm really trying to appreciate this praise
But its hard to read past the sobering thought of the Spurs duo retiring, and the embarrassing reminder of that 2010 sweep.
Damn you giri.

Absolutely not.
The secret to the Spurs success lies in the personality Tim Duncan. His low-key, make no noise, no trouble is the model of the franchise. Players like Melo, Westbrook, Kobe would be incompatible with Pop because of their egos. It would be like how Derron Williams ran Sloan out of Utah (how's that working out for the Jazz, btw?).
I think Kevin Love could work. I think KD would work. Few others besides those would.

Absolutely not.Love has thrown his teammates under a bus numerous times though.

Absolutely not.Love is probably the biggest whiner in the NBA, throws his teammates and organization under the bus.
