Just switched from getting ripped off by Uverse($60 for 18mbps) to Xfinity($25 for 25mbps).
Dude hooked everything up I'm getting 30mpbs down on all my devices except for my PS4....... Where I'm getting 2.2 KBPS. What the fuuuuuuuck
I've tried switching DNS servers. Changing the MTU to 1473 or 1492, etc. It just results in other errors like not being able to connect to PSN.
Like wtf is this shit man.

What are you hooked up to? What is the router? You using ComCast one or your own hookup (please say the 2nd).
Well I'm pretty sure it might need a powercycle... first shut everything down first and restart it..
If that doesn't work.... read this
and this.
I would get another modem and router (wireless if you need it) combo, there is too much crap with ComCast. Only reason I have it is the area I moved to recently doesn't have FiOS set up yet (will be coming within a year).
EDIT: This is the wired modem I boughtI combo it with a Linksys WRT54GL flashed with Tomato 1.28. Works fine for me,

Thanks for the links man. The thing is, its only the PS4 that's getting the shit speeds. Everything else is great.
I'm inclined to believe this is just another failing of Sony and their infrastructure.
I mean
Down doeeds in kbps? Fuck, I already know I'm going to waste my off day trying to fix this shit.

If you're using Comcast router return that all in one shit immediately. It is hot garbage. If you're using it I guarantee you that's the problem. Avoid at all costs and get your own router.
PS4 wi-fi is ass but it's not that far down the drain.

Bite the bullet for it.
This modem, then any good router for wireless. Buy them separately and not the 2 in 1.
I use this with Apple Airport. I was surprised how scum America internet providers are with equipment...

With fiber optic you just get a box that provider gives you and you just need a router and WAN ethernet. Modern building already have them installed for painless set up.
I am still not use to no fiber here.
I don't know if they sell in America but the routers I use and like are by IO Data, Buffalo, and Apple.

By psychintellect Go To PostComcast router. Arris T862 I think.get rid of the router and get your own and it'll fix it 95% of the time. I'm rocking the Netgear CM500 modem.
Is that bad?

Can someone just link me to whatever combo of shit I need to spend money on so I can try and get by Saturday?
By psychintellect Go To PostIs that a two in one?no it's just a modem. I don't ever use 2n1's, It just supports up to high tiers so it'll last awhile. And once i switched to it Comcast stopped it's stealth throttling
By psychintellect Go To PostCan someone just link me to whatever combo of shit I need to spend money on so I can try and get by Saturday?Either of the routers we linked, SB6121 or SB6141. If you have access to the upper tier U/D speeds go for the 141. I'll link you the article explaining both when I'm at work.

These are modems not routers. Just for clarification so that Psy doesn't get confused. He would still needs to get a separate router.
I actually use Comcast's modem, but my own Asus router. I may look into the modem Shun linked so that I can free up the $10 a month Comcast charges to lease theirs.

Yes. Comcast's all in one solution router/modem is the worst.
You can lease a modem from them and hook it up to your own router which is what I do. Or you can buy your own modem and hook it up to your own router. The latter method gets you out of their monthly rental fee for their modem. I've been meaning to go that route but keep forgetting about it.
Whoops sry about that. Rushing to work.
I used to do Comcast's modem but my router the first time, then decided to get out of the monthly fee with them this time because Comcast is the devil. I actually did the same with Verizon but their modems are actually good and stuff... just wanted out of the fee.
This was my guide this year to buying a cable modem popular with the big cable companies.. I'll quote the big points:

This was my guide this year to buying a cable modem popular with the big cable companies.. I'll quote the big points:
The ARRIS / Motorola Surfboard SB6141 cable modem is the best choice for most people right now because it’s the only one that works with most of the fastest national plans on seven of the eight biggest US cable ISPs, as well as Cox. (The odd one out is Cablevision/Optimum, which recommends modems that include VOIP functionality.) Additionally, it has many thousands of glowing Amazon reviews and a history of reliability.I got the SB6121 because I won'y be with Comcast long enough to ever be in the high speed range.
The SB6141 supports eight downstream channels and four upstream channels. After network overhead, that gives you a maximum bandwidth of 304 Mbps downstream and 108 Mbps upstream. That’s a lot faster than most cable-Internet plans, but that’s okay—our pick can still help you get closer to your maximum speed by reducing the effects of network congestion.
To illustrate what we mean, suppose your ISP rents you a 1×1 cable modem for your 25 Mbps plan, but your ISP actually has an 8×4 network. If there’s network congestion on your modem’s single channel, your speeds will suffer. Switching to an 8×4 modem that uses more of your ISP’s channels is like adding extra lanes to a freeway—congestion in one channel won’t affect the speeds of the others.
That said, it’s hard to predict the performance gains you might see. Some Amazon purchasers have doubled their speeds when switching from a DOCSIS 2.0 modem (1×1) to our pick. Some didn’t get any benefit at all. It depends on your service speed and your ISP’s network congestion. But even if you don’t see a benefit now, our pick gives you the flexibility to get faster service in the future, whether you pay for the upgrade or your ISP upgrades your service for free.
Our pick also makes the most sense if you’re paying for service below 300 Mbps and aren’t maxing it out—which you can check with a quick download and upload test at any number of websites. We prefer the SB6141 over our step-up pick, a 16×4 cable modem, because the SB6141 is less expensive, so you’ll recoup your money faster. Plus, you’re unlikely to get much of a speed boost—if any—over our 8×4 pick with most cable Internet plans.
The Arris / Motorola Surfboard SB6121 costs around $25-30 less than our pick, but it supports only four downstream and four upstream channels—providing a maximum speed of 152 Mbps each way. While that’s probably more than fast enough for most people’s Internet plans, our 8×4 pick is a better investment. It gives you extra headroom if you ever want to upgrade your service (and lets you immediately benefit from faster speeds if your ISP gives you a free upgrade). It’ll also be better for dealing with network congestion if your ISP has an 8×4 network, or when it upgrades to one at any point over our pick’s long life.
Thanks for that frank
So if I were to just get a router for now and then replace the modem laterlater, what is the best one?

ugh... that's a whole other ball of wax. I still have my Tomato-flashed WRT54GL because I'm old fashioned and whatever works well don't break it. I defer to people who actually use routers from this decade.
half the reason i dont want to hop back on ps4 is because of the shit i went through with the wifi on it
PSN wi-fi is pure trash. If you absolutely can't get wired, get you a pair of powerline adapters.

Also, I'm gonna give that Surfboard modem a try too.

No i have Asus N65u or something like that for my router. Never had any issues.
I agree with others tho. Id rather use powerline adapters vs ps4 wifi. Its that trash.
By Dark PhaZe Go To Posthmm, this powerline adapter seems interesting, do they have any downsides?
Depends on the wiring in your apartment/house. I used these

And they worked well. Way better than wifi.

You will still need a router or a LAN HUB if you are planning on using wifi and/or using multiple ethernet connections.
That is just for people who don't want to deal with multiple routers in a home or if your home is not wired or set up with ethernet ports in each room.
Most coax cable modem have only one ethernet port.

OK fuck it. Buying a router after work. Any suggestions. If this doesnt help, I'll buy a modem tomorrow.

Soooo bought a cheap Netgear N300 router from Walmart for 40 bucks. Set it up, bridged the shitty Comcast modem .......
Thank you so much Frank,Shun,Smokey and all the brehs.
I will definitely be replacing the Comcast modem with one of the recommended ones from the thread with my next paycheck.
But I can finally play 2k again.
*tears*

Yeah man, PS4 networking card is fucking hot trash... I ended up just using a power line adapter and now I get around 40 down. Still about half of what I get on on my laptop, but at least it works.
I just moved to my new spot yesterday. Comcast came out and set everything up. Got hit with the combo modem/router we were talking about. Talked to the tech and explained how I don't want this etc etc. During that convo he explained that it's a brand new model that just released. It's a 802.11AC router. Aight. I'll give it a go, whatever. Hooked up my motherboard's AC wifi dongle, and picked some random server around the country:
Considering my internet package is 105 Mb and this is over wifi, I am surprised at the results. Especially since it's from this combo box. Haven't hooked up my consoles yet to test them out.

I have issues with wired/wifi in general on my PS4. 150/25 and I rarely get over 30/2 wired. Wifi is at like 2/1. The sad thing is, my Xbox gets better WiFi speeds than my PS4 gets hard lined.
Upgraded my network about a month ago.
Picked up a Motorola SB6183 modem along with an ASUS AC87R router. No longer paying Comcast to lease their modem.
Feels good.

By reilo Go To PostWhat's the difference between the SB6183 and the SB6121?
More channels and faster but much more expensive. Check your plan to see if you'll even take advantage of those higher tier speeds for cable as Fiber Optics gain traction in US.
