Tom Brady's 4-game suspension upheld; Further litigation expected.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady's four-game suspension for his role in using underinflated footballs during the AFC Championship Game was upheld by commissioner Roger Goodell on Tuesday.
In announcing the decision, Goodell cited new information that on or shortly before March 6, Brady directed that the cellphone he had used for the prior four months be destroyed. The NFL said in the statement that Brady destroyed the phone even though he was aware that investigators had requested access to text messages and other electronic information that had been stored on the phone.
According to the NFL, Brady exchanged nearly 10,000 text messages, none of which can now be retrieved. The NFL also said in its statement that the destruction of the cellphone was not disclosed until June 18, almost four months after investigators first sought information from him.
Goodell said in the statement that Brady "went beyond a mere failure to cooperate in the investigation and supported a finding that he had sought to hide evidence of his own participation in the scheme." Based on Ted Wells' report and the evidence presented at that hearing, Goodell also said that Brady was aware of, and took steps to support, the actions of other team employees to deflate game footballs below the levels allowed under NFL rules.
Brady is expected to challenge the decision in federal court and seek an injunction that will allow him to play while his case works its way through the courts.

Yeah! Like OJ, Kenneth Lay, Casey Anthony, and all the police on camera...
I don't see how him destroying his phone makes those text messages unretrievable. If the NFL had the legal standing to take his phone, then they could have simply gone to his phone provider.
And it also doesn't add up when the NFL themselves admitted that Brady offered the NFL to help gather all of those text messages: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/07/28/brady-offered-to-help-nfl-gather-missing-text-messages/
It sounds like to me his suspension was upheld based on circumstantial evidence, but it's not like the NFL is bound by actual laws.
I don't give a shit about the NFL, but much like the CEO of Papa John's, I wouldn't trust a word that Roger Goodell says. He's a fucking liar.

Basically. The players union is saying there's bargained punishments for equipment tampering anyway. So not only did Brady offer up phone records regarding texts (just not his phone), the NFL had procedural guidelines to follow that they didn't. Belicheck gave his phone up and they found nothing on it. They also embellished on the amount of PSI that was missing from the ball. Which is why they're trying to move the convo to "brady broke his phone"
The NFL can go get fucked. The entire league cheats. Baseball catches more PED use than football does. Yet I'm supposed to care about some PSI bullshit. It became a media shitstorm and Goodell had no clue how to handle it other than act and punish.
As an LA fan I generally think the Pats can go get fucked. But the NFL can go get fucked harder.
I can log onto my AT&T account and see a full list of which phone number received a text message and at what time.
There's so many ways to retrieve the text messages and it sounds like the NFL just didn't bother and took months to make the decision that "well he destroyed his phone, so he must have cheated!" based on that fact alone: http://www.wired.com/2015/07/even-tom-brady-smash-phone-itd-make-zero-sense/
But really, the entire point that I'm trying to make is that Roger Goodell is a piece of shit and you can't trust anything he says or does.

Goodell probably only cares this much because certain kinds of cheating cut into the bottom line of other franchises. Pressure from other owners is probably mounting.
Actually, Brady provided the lists on people he contacted with the old phone, and they were able to retrieve texting data, but not the contents of the messages. In addition, the NFL gave Brady many outs. They only asked for "relevant" texts to protect his right to privacy, not even the entire phone. Brady and his lawyers turned them down, and destroyed potential evidence.
I'm no Goodell supporter, but Brady should just take the L.

I mean, let's just ignore the fact that the entire initial allegation that the footballs were under-deflated to begin with is 95% most likely false and can't nor has it been proven by the NFL. This entire thing stinks.

It's been reported that their origional statements on the amounts were massively overstated though. Only one ball out of eleven met the origional description of two pounds. The others were supposed to be just "a couple ticks" under.

When the refs inspect the balls at halftime after complaints by the Colts, they are woefully underinflated: While all of the Colts' balls measure at least 12.5 PSI on one of the referees' gauges, only one of the Pats' 11 balls even measure 12 PSI, with most falling between 10-11 PSI.
Hmm ... I don't remember where I was hearing or reading that. O well. Either way. I'm not really thinking that he didn't cheat. Just that the cheating was overblown. Goodell is reacting to public reaction. Ray rice gets two games. People freak more games added. It's the pats and it's the biggest sport near the Super Bowl. It was the perfect storm and was a 24/7 news cycle. It has a fucking "gate" added to it lol. I think Goodell is an idiot and reacted to that storm. I mostly just think Goodell is a pos.

The hoopla had died down if they just fined the fuck outta of the Pats or whatever I doubt there would have been too much of a stink. I do think that the Pats having a history of shady tactics and GETTING CAUGHT on one of the largest stages in football had a lot more to do with it...
nobody said shit when the skins got 36 million dollars in cap space literally stolen from them over a two year period
tears now though over a mandated 4 game rest for a 37 year old QB lol

So it seems that based on info came out yesterday/today the actual data regarding the ball PSI might not be scientific enough to hold up to court scrutiny. The wells report wasn't "independent" at all. The NFL admitted to not having any detailed plan in place for a things like ball deflation. They even have past incidents with ball tampering to set precedent. It seems that while Brady hasn't been the most honest of witnesses, that's really all the NFL has. All the emails dropped, and people are going through them and are finding nothing regarding ball deflation. Instead their finding personal emails about pools and dinners. The emails basically show Tom was at least partially justified in not wanting to hand over his phone.
Goodell is a moron.
Goodell is a moron.
Tom Brady's testimony was so wishy-washy and unbelievable. Like him looking for an excuse why he destroyed his phone. First he was claiming that many people had guessed his phone number. But then he says he got a new phone and did not change phone numbers.... Also him claiming he doesn't really care about or know much how the ball is inflated but basically was responsible for changing the rule allowing visiting teams to bring their own balls..
