I've been avoiding reading about this.alive. the sale is pending until NBA Board of Governors vote next week.
Is the dream alive or dead? Just give it to me quick I don't want any agony.
i honestly don't see the team moving to Seattle, not for a few years.
Ballmer has really over paid here, and the clippers local tv deal is up for re-negotiation very shortly. He's going to want to maxmise that deal. And i don't think the Seattle market would be able to offer anything close to what the LA one will.
That said, it's Ballmer. He may just say fuck it, and move anyway. That would drive up the Lakes value to insane heights though.

The Clippers would make more money if they moved imo...
Not only to Seattle... any relatively large city would pay out well

Nah. There's not many markets as bandwagony as LA, and as dedicated to bball as LA either. LA not having a NFL franchise really has made it a bball town.
I think the Seattle market would pay well for the tv rights, but not the money that an LA broadcaster could put on the table.
Lakers got that big 4 billion local TV a bit ago... guess it could happen twicei honestly don't see the team moving to Seattle, not for a few years.

I still think sharing a stadium and city isn't healthy for them

I tend to agree. I don't think teams should share cities like the Clippers / Lakers do.
I think Brooklyn / NY is pushing it a bit even.
But throw in sharing the stadium, which makes perfect financial and logistical sense... it just feels like it would be hard to ever create your own brand properly.
I think Ballmer will move once Seattle gives him a favorable stadium deal. It might not happen right away, but it will happen some years down the line. I doubt he wants a basketball team that badly to pay $2B for it. The moment he bought it he lost a big chunk of that money.

Ballmer and Seattle already have development plans underway for a NBA/NFL stadium. And ballmer is paying a pretty penny towards that too.
Which is really THE biggest indicator the team will move. Whether he continues to support that stadium development.

Wow, didn't even know that. Well can't let Nintendo be the only one with a sports team in town.

Yeah it's not like Paul Allen just won the super bowl or anything

LOL, well I do not follow football at all so pardon my ignorance.
Ballmer is no longer part of the ownership group that was openly trying to buy a team to relocate to seattle.
He's bought the clippers, it seems, pretty much on his own?
There's no word on what his involvement with the new stadiums is at the moment. But they're currently just waiting the "environmental studies" before going ahead.

Yeah, it was an outright purchase on his own.. Chris Hansen messed up with the scandals and stuff.. But we will see how it plays out
I'll feel bad for Clippers fans if, after finally ousting Sterling, they just lose the team completely.
But Seattle also deserves a good team so I don't know.

I can say either way it will be good for the league to have Ballmer.. the man paid for the team almost outright with a check.. just nuts. If he brings the team to Seattle they will flourish and the fan support will be crazy. Seattle fans only want a committed owner.. The reason why sales were bad before was because ownership was clearly cutting corners... and screwing the fans. Win or lose Seattle has decent fans, but they won't stand for being shat on.
If he stays in LA I am sure the team will also do well with him..
LOS ANGELES (AP) – An attorney for Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling says he has agreed to sign off on selling the team to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer for what would be a record $2 billion.
Attorney Maxwell Blecher says Wednesday that Sterling "has made an agreement with the NBA to resolve all their differences" and approved a deal negotiated by his wife Shelly Sterling to sell the team.
Donald Sterling sued the NBA in federal court last week alleging the NBA violated his constitutional rights by relying on information from an "illegal" recording that publicized racist remarks he made to a girlfriend. It also says the league committed a breach of contract by fining Sterling $2.5 million and that it violated antitrust laws by forcing a sale.
Blecher says the suit will be dismissed. NBA owners must approve the sale.
seattle superclippers here we come?
He was being forced out but was getting maybe 2 times what his team was worth, and in almost all cash.. He would be stupid to cock block that deal..
Yep. All the lawsuit threats were just an an attempt to save face among his racist friends. He's not going to say no to 2 billion dollars.
It is the best decision for the NBA. No fear of league wide player revolt and the negativity surrounding him is gone before the final start.
wow...

Donald Sterling pulls support from Clippers sale, suing NBA again
Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling has pulled his support from a deal to sell the team to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer and will pursue his $1 billion federal lawsuit against the NBA, his attorney said Monday.
"We have been instructed to prosecute the lawsuit," said attorney Maxwell Blecher. He said co-owner Donald Sterling would not be signing off on the deal to sell.
The $2 billion sale was negotiated by his wife Shelly Sterling after Donald Sterling's racist remarks to a girlfriend were publicized and the NBA moved to oust him as owner.
The lawsuit alleges the league violated his constitutional rights by relying on information from an "illegal" recording that publicized racist remarks he made to a girlfriend. It also said the league committed a breach of contract by fining Sterling $2.5 million and that it violated antitrust laws by trying to force a sale.

Yeah dude is nuts! This is going to be ugly, because if he remains in the league some how... players might boycott, and the NBA does not want to give the players that kind of power...

You don't really believe that do you? Players aren't boycotting and even if they were then pther people will just replace them. Boycott for what? A boycott would have been necessary to force a sale, but the NBA can't do shit if he wins.
He'd obviously potentially sabotage the NBA than sell his team for 2billion because I'm sure someone has brought this up to him.

The NBA like baseball, can't work with scabs...
I don't know if they would boycott but I wouldn't think it would be out of the question. And what would they boycott for? To rid the NBA of a publicly racist owner..

Apparently Sterling couldn't spell 'world' backwards or accurately place the numbers on a clock.
Link says they're secondary signs of primary dementia Alzheimer's disease. If that's true his legal moves are done-zo.

Oh boy. Sterling is now employing a scorched earth policy. This could end very, very ugly for the league....
Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling's team of lawyers has hired four private investigation firms to dig up "dirt" on the NBA's former and current commissioners and its 29 other owners, a source confirmed to ESPN.com.
The move was earlier reported by The Associated Press, citing a person familiar with Sterling's legal strategy.
Investigators were given a six-figure budget over the next 30 days to examine the league's finances, allegations of previous discriminatory conduct, and compensation to past commissioner David Stern and current commissioner Adam Silver, said the AP source, who spoke Thursday night on condition of anonymity. The person wasn't authorized to talk publicly.
The person said the investigators also are looking into whether other owners made any off-color jokes, or racist or sexist remarks.

shouldve just let him die from cancer instead of stirring the hornets nest
It was the first day of Donald Sterling's final desperate fight for the Clippers, the first day of his last battle for the reputation of his sanity and the ownership of his basketball team.
And he didn't show.
"We call Donald Sterling!" lawyer Pierce O'Donnell shouted into the afternoon thickness of a crowded and sweaty Los Angeles Superior courtroom Monday afternoon, summoning the disgraced sports mogul to testify at the start of a legal contest that could determine the fate of Shelly Sterling's $2-billion sale of the team to Steve Ballmer.
But Donald Sterling wasn't there.
Despite the expensive decorations, the battle lines here are clear and simple. Donald Sterling's complaint is that Shelly Sterling did not have the right to act alone on behalf of the Sterling Family Trust in selling the team to Ballmer. Shelly Sterling claims she has that right because Donald Sterling, in accordance with one of the trust's clauses signed by both parties last year, was removed from the trust for mental incapacity.
Yeah, Donald Sterling missed a great show at the first day of his own trial. The fun started when, during a rambling opening statement conducted while some courtroom observers fanned themselves and others slept, Ruttenberg accidentally referred to the Clippers as, well, that other team in town.
"They're trying to leave him stripped of the Lakers!" he shouted.

He reportedly will be cross-examined by Fields, who has bragged that he can make witnesses weep on the stand, but Samini said his man will be strong. Are we in preschool now?
"Donald is not concerned that he's going to cry," Samini said.
"I promise you one thing, if there's any crying in the courtroom, it's very unlikely it will be coming from Donald, but it might be coming from other places."
