Speaking of knowing heritage, is there actually something like the ancestors websites for Asians? I'd assume for most Han Chinese it would have been easy to keep track of, until the communist revolution? Like our family has a naming scheme or whatever. My Dad and siblings are all
傅家X, while their kids (my generation) are 傅齊X. My dad said my kids should all be 治 I think and their kids should be 國 (I think, might have gotten order wrong? ). There must be some registry somewhere?

One thing that kind of upsets me about the whole communist uprising or whatever is how much of my family history is lost. Need to record by dad as it seems he knows a bit. Apparently my grandpa was kind of important or at least his dad was? I have no idea which is really unfortunate. Most family records were left behind when my grandparents went to Taiwan
##Ugh hit reply instead of edit again. I suck##

Well the family elders keep the names in a giant book. There is also family temple if the family was from the same village.
Using the same character for the part of the name for the whole generation of related family is just popular thing people do before the "New China" (New China is what PR China call themselves). If you think about it, it's a very patriarchy thing to do. Rarely anyone do it nowadays. People use to make up names for themselves too. For example "Zhong Shan" was Sun Yet-Sian called himself, and what he is known as in China.
By ShimshonNaharai Go To PostDoes the Middle East count as Asia?I have said in the other forum many times, Asia should be split up into East Asia, the Subcontinent, SEA and Middle East for topic discussion. It serves no cultural purpose to lump them together.
People get upset when other people use the term "Asia" when what they are really trying to say is "East Asia". For exanple "Asian Rice Racket", "The Asian market". So you should try to avoid use the term Asia and be more specific.

Crazy Rich Asians, based on Kevin Kwan’s bestselling novel, earned $25.2M at the domestic weekend box office, and $34M over five days, a gross that isn’t that far from another August female-skewing hit, DreamWorks’ The Help which opened to $26M over three, $35M over five and legged out to $169.7M.

With his financing deadline approaching, Lin, who met MC Hammer at a trade show three years earlier and had exchanged numbers after a conversation over their shared interest in digital cameras, decided to give him a call. The next day, the money was wired to Lin. It was a last minute investment that made the making of Better Luck Tomorrow a possibility
Dang.
By joefu Go To PostJust watched it with the family. Pretty good
See? No gf needed. Only Haspha slacking.
Welcome, Flutter.
"Crazy Rich Asians" is still crazy rich at the box office.
The Warner Bros. rom-com brought in an estimated $25 million in its second weekend to once again top the box office.
That's just a 6% drop from its haul over the previous weekend, and nearly unheard at the box office.
Wow.
