Before I say anything else, understand this--betting is this 90% of the time:
KNOW what the fuck you're getting into. Understand this is a high risk investment game, with big payoffs come big losses. Don't put up anything you can't afford to. Don't cry if you tale someones picks here and lose your rent money. Embrace the L's you get.
After years of analytical work, copious conversation with the brehs, and various unpublished dissertations on the ain't shitness of Ricard "Ricky" Rubio i Vives, I decided its time to start making money off my hard earned work. I made net positive winnings from the beginning of the NBA playoffs until now--and after cashing out from Bovada recently, I decided to take a break...but I'm not. I'm making this thread instead, because nothing stops this train. I've decided I'll handicap myself by starting the season off with a 100 dollar bank roll. If I lose it all--fuck it, I'm out as intended until the beginning of the NBA season. But my intentions are to take this money as far as I can.

There are others but that's my go to. Nothing but good things to say about the service there.
Terminology:
ATS (Against The Spread) - A method of referring to the result of an event that takes the pointspread into account. Also, the act of taking points rather than betting with the spread, or "laying" points.

In the event of a push or a game cancellation, the parlay reverts to the next lower number (e.g. a 4-team parlay becomes a 3-team parlay).
Pointspread - The handicap, or head start, which the favorite gives to the underdog for betting purposes.
Prop (Proposition) Bet - A special wager offered by the sportsbook on unique and various topics. These wagers can be on sporting events, politics, and even trial outcomes. In college I used to be really good at boxing betting. I was winning a lot too, not by much because I mostly bet on safe shit. One day I got really drunk at a party the night of a fight and i passed out in my dorm room early before I could enter my bet in. I bet on Paul Williams beating Martinez over the distance, but didn't submit it.
Woke up hungover, checked the forums to see wtf happened and I saw this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3leRDXrbrs
Frantically checked my account. Nothing, Went to my betting site and saw that I had never entered it in. Sigh of relief. And i guess that's why i don't bet on anything anymore. I miss it though.

I had a brief period of betting at the end of last season. I put in 15 euros and I still have just over 100 euros in Unibet account at the moment. Might try to make more of it once the season starts again. Or I'll take at least 80 euros from it and begin with 20.

Might as well post my NAP (best bet) N.B (Next best) and IWAC (In with a chance) for tomorrow.
NAP Donna Graciosa 9.00 Leicester - Current Best Priced 3/1
Good run last in race not run to his preference. Yard and Jockey in fine form. Weighted to win.
-
N.B Pharoh Jake 4.50 Lingfield - Current Best Priced 6/1
Won here 5 times, well weighted to reverse form with Give Us A Bell. Held off fave off much worse conditions last month.
-
IWAC Windforpower 4.00 Catterick - Current Best Priced 14/1
Can make excuses for last with unsuitable distance. Drop back to 5f suits, yet to win at catterick but several decent efforts in defeat. Preferred Jockey back on board.
1 Unit on NAP and N.B + 0.5 Unit double
0.5 Unit ew on IWAC

Definitely starting tomorrow. Good thing I'm off so I won't miss when any of you guys post your picks.
I completely forgot to take the lines into account when I added up that sum last night in my drunkery. Turns out the bankroll is 109.33, so a 9% gain.
We've got some really early games today and I've got to run the office damn near solo today. I'll do my best to get picks in. I think I like some unders just by scanning it--early starts mean late arriving bats. Maybe some first inning no runs prop bets. We'll see. I love sonny Gray and the A's tonight but nothing else is catching me as too favorable on the money line.

Todays plays (7/22/2015):
ATL +1.5 /LAD (-130) = 1u LOSS
ATL/LAD Under 7.5 (-120) = 1u WIN
Julio Teheran boasts a 5-0 record at home this season with 2.18 era against a bad road team. After two losses straight to Atlanta and a west coast team that's looking to play extremely early mid-week, I expect them to take the L on this one and conserve energy for their next series. I expect it'll be a low scoring game where the pitchers have their way.
NYM/WSH (-130)= 2u WIN
NYM/WSH Over 7 (-110) = 1u PUSH
(NYM @ WSH) - Will Bryce Harper (WAS) hit a home run: Yes (+350) = 1u LOSS (scust)
Syndergaard vs Zimmerman in Washington. Noah hasn't won on the road once this year and we're talking 8mph winds on a lovely DC afternoon. I'm taking Bryce Harper for a home run player prop for a unit once those open on Bovada. I expect the score to be exactly 7, but we'll take the over as that's where the trend and the stats say it'll go provided Washington bats don't go silent as they are sometimes like to do.
TOR/OAK (+140) = 1u
MIN @ LAA (-167): 3u (Win)
Self fade. Everything points to Sonny Gray dominating the matchup but he's coming off a loss and is a better road pitcher than home pitcher. Sneaky play.

Betting on NBA is the most fun.
Pro-Tip: Never do live betting on Bovada(first team to score 20 points in a quarter etc.), that shit hurts more when you lose.

I don't trust MLB enough to put bread on it.
NFL and NBA tho? In.
Although NFL with point spreads is INFURIATING as fuck. FOH here with that prevent defense in the last 2 minutes when up by 10 smh. Can wreck your whole weekend.

Playing the live lines are actually the way to go in certain scenarios. Sometimes in the first five minutes of a game the lines can literally pop a 180 and save you from having done something you regret. On the otherhand, sometimes shit can happen that improves the lines in your favor.
For example in NBA, there are a lot of times where you know the other team is gonna go on a run at some point. If you just lock money in when things are going right you're going to get bad odds. OTOH if you wait for that run to happen you can lock in with a much better number.
MLB is mostly...fine if you know what to look for. Not my bread and butter though.

gorgeous summer day with a 12:35 start against an aint shit on the road pitcher and you're fucking scoreless through 4
90% of the bats need to be thrown in the fucking bushes and this has been the case for years now

Bovada just updated the site so no plays as of now. 115.28 BR
So 15.28 in two days, and could have done more if I were more conservative (no dumb HR props or parlays).
Still though, if we could win at this current rate, we'd be in line for about 229 dollars a month in winnings.
*shrug*
not good enough, we must go DEEPER

By HasphatsAnts Go To Posti'd imagine this thread would be a lot more entertaining when NFL starts.
I understand that I'm basically gonna be sitting here mouthing off by myself for a couple of months, yea
I've never bet NFL. Seems like it could be a great sport for parlays given the predictability of winners overall though. Spreads seem dangerous. I'm interested in seeing what the average money line looks like.

Saturday is an absolute minefield with horse racing so just 1 today.
Tropics 3.45 Goodwood Best Price 12/1
A real favourite of mine. Won easy as it liked on its seasonal reappearance in a listed contest at Windsor but ran to even better form in defeat to top class Muhaarar in the July cup. Ideally would want the ground a touch softer today but has grown pretty versatile going wise. Carries top weight today but really see it having too much class. The main danger for me is the improving Poyle Vinnie who i'll be having a small ew cover on at 16's

Thanks for that KP. I'm following a horse punter and he is on Them And Us, running 4.00 on Newmarket. I got him for 7.50 and the odds on him are 5.00 now. Can't really offer the reasoning on that one, since I just do what he says.
Got 3 football doubles today as well, but it's mostly bets on Swedish, Norwegian and German teams for fun. Will probably make a big bet on PSG tonight, seen Lyon play this summer and they are bad.

The trick to sport betting, is betting more than you can actually afford. That way you earn much more when you win
I just got into Daily Fantasy (H2H mostly) and it's as close to outright sports betting as I'm willing to go when not in Vegas. It's actually fun and somewhat strategic. I do utilize betting lines for Fantasy though (helps decide who to start and sit)
