By YourExWife Go To PostAs far as criticisms go for H5, my top list is as follows:
* GET. RID. OF. GRENADE. HITMARKERS. How are these still a thing? Fucking breaks any possible tension in matches. Might as well have PV.
* GET. RID. OF. SIMMS. I'm sure he's a nice guy but there will never be enough things happening to justify the amount of words he thinks he needs to scream every couple seconds. He'd be better shoutcasting a different game.
* Forcing you to "pick up" OS and the like. This is just dumb. "oh you wanted that OS and not the AR?" If you can't put priorities on pickups over weapons, don't make us pick them up.
* Weapon/nade outlines - I hope this is toggle-able.
* For some reason I still am not a fan of the sound designs. I think it's because everything seems so over-designed and trying to be hyper-realistic or something.
By YourExWife Go To PostI'm actually looking forward to H5, but we've been trotted out this bs before H4 when people said random ordnance and perks and custom loadouts and ordnance drops and all the bad things in H4 were revealed in that leaked magazine issue. We were told to "shut up until you've actually played it" or "you won't know it's a bad idea until you try it" or "don't worry, it's still Halo, it won't be as bad as it sounds". Welp. Some things don't require hands-on to offer valid criticisms.1. Wait, Simms shoutcasting is a part of the official Halo 5 game design now? =P

2. Certainly a valid criticism (though one I doubt will happen often), the game design behind why it's a "Hold X to Pick Up" was perfectly illustrated in the Halo 5 Gamescon Invitational when a player was denied the OS because he was killed before the animation finished. It adds more risk and reward than just, "Oh, I know I could totally eat 15(?) AR bullets and grab the OS for instant health and invincibility." There's certainly a level of bullshit to that.
3. That's probably because it is hyper realistic. If you've seen the second season of The Sprint, you'll see that 343i's chief sound designer (forget his name) is obsessed with recording hard to get sounds (like firing a mounted machine gun down a public street or recording lava crackling and bubbling) and then properly mixing them so you can hear every aspect of it.

By belushy Go To PostHow comeIt's somewhat jarring. Maybe if it wasn't lit up so much and just a thin outline, I'd be fine. I said toggle-able because I can see that some people might prefer it if they have trouble seeing them on map or as a personal preference thing.

Ah, I understand. I've seen a lot of people say they dislike it, but I think it is a good change. Maybe make it to were it only highlights dropped-on-death power weapons (and not normal BRs, Magnums, etc) so they're easy to find in a pile.

Wonder if they're tying in the approximate sizes of the free 15 maps as well. Or will the physical edition be two disks?
Watched vids of the tourney and I'm delighted.

After watching all of the invitational these are my criticisms:
-Shotgun has too much ammo (keep it powerful though)
-Grenade hitmarkers are still an abomination. It's completely unfair and I hope that needs no explanation.
-Maps look too architecturally similar (aside from Truth/Regret).
-Maps all look perhaps too dark in places and doesn't translate well into streaming either.
-Visual hitmarkers are a tad obnoxuous/distracting (especially with autos racking up shots
Besides a few of my own problems with gun models and audio design I absolutely love it and I'm very excited to spend many hours on this game.

By derpface123 Go To PostHalo 5's campaign is confirmed to be twice the length of Halo 4's by Josh Holmes in an IGN video interview.Cheers for the summary!
Halo 5 will have 20 maps at launch, composed of 14 Arena maps and 6 Warzone maps.
Digital Foundry analyzed the B-rolls and found the framerate only dropped during a Loading… segment in the singleplayer B-roll and the framerate never dropped below 60 in the multiplayer B-roll.
The build of Halo 5 Guardians used at the Invitational and presumably in all Gamescom footage is at least 3 months old according to a tweet from 343i developer Quinn DelHoyo.
Halo 5 Guardians Invitational went smoothly as far as Halo 5's stability is concerned, the only problem was a disconnect but that was not the fault of Halo 5 but rather the Wi-Fi/internet connection at Gamescom which went down for a moment during the first match between OpTic Gaming and Supremacy.
That's about all I know, the videos are linked in previous pages of this OT.
Long campaign and solid framerate sounds great.
By Ragnarok Flames Go To PostNot that many will care. But my thoughts about Halo 5, competitive and the last tourney as explained by some Beyond guys. It's screen caps, ignore the kylee minogue screen cap http://imgur.com/a/WPZci
As expected, the competitive community finds having more than 1 viable weapon far too complicated to comprehend.

This YT channel has the tournament in its entirety split into parts. It's all in HD, too. The tournament wasn't in 60fps so that's why the videos aren't in 60fps.
is there going to be a VOD of the tournament? I completely missed it all being busy. I also was wondering if it was confirmed we can get a physical disc with the halo 5 console? I still do not understand why it and the limited collectors edition are shipping 7 days early.. I want to get the halo 5 console, i already planned to get the LE of the game which comes with the console so thats all great but i do not want simply a digital code =(

You get everything except for the physical disc itself. You can still put the case on your shelf, and you don't have to switch discs to play halo 5 or something else. Plus you get the console a week early, which is cool.

Hey now, be nice jem. I still think this will be the best Halo some 2, and all of my issues with it are easily fixable, especially with the new weapon patching system.
We need more power weapons on maps. Plasma caster is not one. Shotgun range and clip is already taken care of. The BR NEEDS to be a starting weapon in the HCS with the pistol. The pistol needs to be 4sk. We just need more lethality in this game. At the same time, autos need to be nerfed. The tourney was almost unwatchable seeing the smg (whose range and dmg need a nerf) and AR being used so much. It was a lot of spray and pray and doesn't make for very exciting gameplay or viewing. More rifles on maps and more power weapons.
I actually thought that the AR gameplay on display was pretty good. Hardly "spray and pray." Autos are, and should remain, viable at close ranges.
By Poodlestrike Go To PostI actually thought that the AR gameplay on display was pretty good. Hardly "spray and pray." Autos are, and should remain, viable at close ranges.Disagree, the smg in particular is just absurd. Killing people from ridiculous distances and dominating the game. Competitive halo should be about precision not holding down a button and watching it shred os and people from BR ranges. The DMR and BR need a buff, autos still need to be nerfed.
By Poodlestrike Go To PostI actually thought that the AR gameplay on display was pretty good. Hardly "spray and pray." Autos are, and should remain, viable at close ranges.Agreed. It........ promotes map movement and led to a lot of tightly intense scrums. It was a blast to watch.

Unless you're counting anything outside of 10 feet to be "BR range," in which case, yeah, autos are no longer nerf guns.
The autos were not killing anyone past their intentional range with the headshot bonus removed, they are fine. The precision weapons are as powerful as they are and don't need a buff.

I really enjoy his casting as well, and it's also incredibly hard to provide any significant commentary for a game you haven't played much yourself, aren't familiar with callouts, and teams don't have established set ups.
I just really loved the benefit of seeing some high level play this far before release.
catching up on the invitational, is it just me or is the outside area of empire totally ignored now without a sniper rifle? also, i kinda like the OS pick up. yeah, its a change that will take getting used to, but it adds to the risk of picking it up. do you still get total invulnerability for a few seconds while it powers up your shield?

I'm surprised with how dark the maps are though. That was something that people complained about in the beta, thought there would be adjustments. The tournament was played on a build from 3 months ago. Hopefully there are some changes before release.

I did see some people hole up in Turbine and Blue/Red sneaky to control the pit, tho.

I see less of a point in picking up plasma weapons to shred shields when the TTK on automatics has been reduced, which is kind of sad, though I do like automatics being more viable.

watching the stream (may not be an issue while playing) i kept thinking i spotted blue players on empire when in fact it was all the electrical sparking. inside the base, behind the cover where the sniper used to spawn, is particularly bad, as you just barely catch glimpses of the blue behind the wall. but yeah, its still a bit dark.
my bigger issue is with blown out exposure like in staring at the sun on pegasus and to a lesser extent halo 4's haven. i hope there is NONE of that in 5.

should change it to a more white/blue or even white/yellow. but wont happen. i'm sure after 10s of matches i'll forget about it.
