Wow, if you haven't done so yet I'd encourage anyone to download the HD b roll from today. I am really excited to get my hands on this game. http://news.xbox.com/media/?Keywords=halo&AssetType=b-roll
I just have to say I really agree. I'd like a Halo 3 Anniversary. They could integrate it into MCC. I'd be happy then cause Playing 1 & 2 Anniversary it's so weird to go to 3 now after that.
By Bregmann Roche Go To PostJust getting around to posting, but I liked everything I saw. I don't get the anger re: casting. I thought it was fine for showing off the spectator mode and they kind of already dropped all the other info on us during the beta, E3, etc.I don't mind eSports commentary, even Halo. But we don't need microscopic play-by-play shoutcasting for Halo. Nice guys or not, Simms, Goldenboy, etc style of casting is just grating to my ears every time. Every...single...little...action is mentioned. I definitely prefer analysis style casting like Walsh, Bravo, Side, etc. We're already watching Halo, stop telling us the super obvious crap that we can see with our own eyes. Even if Walsh isn't the best speaker out of the group and he's kind of awkward sometimes, his commentary is still massively better. What really kills me is when they're too busy trying to shoutcast and miss simple stuff happening on the audience-viewable POV and then start casting incorrect crap. Happens a lot at every tournament (again, mostly with Gboy or Simms, sorry).
Obviously, exceptions for stuff like reactions to plays, kills, etc. are fine.
By Wahrer Go To PostI love how hilariously overclocked the melee-based ragdolls are in this. Beating down that dude with OS in the b-roll footage only to send him skidding across the bridge face-first, punching dudes across the room, etc.It looks fun as hell lol. I feel like a Spartan should be able to orbit someone.

I am inclined to agree. Halo is a pretty straight forward game to understand. We don't need League-like commentators because the game isn't as complex. Gandhi was the height of commentating for me, at least in the Halo 3/Reach days when he took it a bit seriously. Walshy is probably my favorite right now, him paired with Bravo or Puckett would be good.

I thought the shoutcasting was okay. I don't think it was the right place or audience for it but whatever. Everything from today looked great. I can't wait to see more of the game. I wish it was October already.

I agree on the play by play nonsense. I understand they are trying to engage the audience and potentially explain the game to newcomers, but honestly it doesn't help and it prevents me from watching that stuff. I love competitive Halo but I don't watch because of the constant flurry of over excitement.

Okay.
I was watching this video just now and I noticed that the weapon switching is really really fast. I don't think its ever been that fast in Halo before.

By Lord of Admirals Go To Post"No reason."Then what's your opinion?
Okay.
They removed juggling to promote what instead a new gimmick that failed?
B'cuz that's exactly what happened. Trying to simplify a gametype by breaking it with obvious way points and no juggling options. Basically dumbing it down. I wouldn't mind Flagnum if it didn't break with those two things.
By NobleGundam Go To PostThen what's your opinion? They removed it because it was never an intended feature, AND it created uneven travel of the flag, which isn't good in a Multi-Flag setting.

At the same time, there is a certain skill gap behind flag juggling. Regardless, the decision to remove it was logical and I find it agreeable on a game design perspective.
Goddamn, I''m hyped as fuck right now. And I just found out I'm getting a free PS4 from work, so that's cool.

And it's logical? Not when you can't choose to pick it up and you're automatically waypoint'd.
As far as intended feature, they chose to put in flag pickup and flag dropping. This was a feature not present in CE (which also had auto pickup). A consequence of this is that someone will drop the flag and throw the flag, even if unintentionally. You need to make some sense, bud.

Gingerly raises hand, asks if it's ok if I'm still pissed about no post game lobby, no joinable custom games, and now, no friends list on the MCC.
Juggle that opinion :p
Juggle that opinion :p
By YourExWife Go To PostIt's not hostility, it's an attempt to make you defend your opinion. Can you do it?No, because I don't want to. I see logic on both sides of the argument. If you find my opinion or unelaborated terms to be less than sufficient, that's fine. Not really forcing you to agree with me. But just because I empathize with their decision to remove manually dropping the flag doesn't mean I agree with it.
In the ideal scenario, the option to manually drop the flag would be a toggle in the menu.

Aside from that though, you mentioned something being logical, yet won't provide the logic?
"Empathizing" with a decision is fine, but saying it's logical means that you can see an argument in its favor.
Which gets back to the bolded: Why even bring up your thoughts or things that you think are logical if you don't feel like discussing or defending them? It's like the definition of shitposting. The one thing GAF had going for it was that *ideally* you were supposed to be having reasoned discussions. Just saying something is logical doesn't make it so. I have no illusions that people are going to convince me or change my mind (or vice versa) in online discussions, but I would at least expect some sort of actual engagement.
Besides, we all know they got rid of it because people bitched about Jeff announcing every drop or pickup. :)
Interesting fact which I haven't read anyone say yet, but in the Blue Team B-Roll footage, Kelly's shotgun fires forerunner rounds and disintegrates enemies.
I don't agree with removing flag juggling, however to play devil's advocate I can see some logical decision making behind it.
When you're holding the flag, you have a slower movement speed. Juggling was an unintentional feature which allowed players to largely negate that decrease in speed. Perhaps they wanted to force the player to move at a slower pace.
You can also use throwing the flag to shorten flag runs by bypassing certain areas. For example throwing the flag up to a base in Warlock. Perhaps they wanted players to use the flag runs they designed into the maps rather than finding sneaky tricks.
I also think they wanted to make CTF a bit more focused on flag running. Being able to drop the flag means players quite often stop and slay for a bit before continuing the run. If you can't drop the flag you can't stop and slay (unless you want to try and use the pistol).

By daedalius Go To PostUgh slower movement when carrying the flag, what a terrible design decision.Yeah, personally I'd remove all flag restrictions. H5 seems to going halfway there, movement speed isn't that much slower and you can thrust/groundpound. I'd still rather have access to everything though.
It would speed up the pace of flag a lot, no longer would you need to rely on a team of randoms to defend you through the map. How awesome would it be to grab the flag and get an overkill exterm on the way back home?

Get better at flag juggling if you want speed. Normal speed, thrusters, and a magnum along with a instakill melee is pretty powerful.

Welp. It's happening. Planetary landings are coming to Elite Dangerous later this year for pc and next year for Xbox. So. Much. Hype.
Thankfully it'll be next year for console so I have time to play the five hundred games that are coming out Oct-Jan... Haha just kidding it'll be Halo, Tomb Raider and Fallout and probably not much else.

Chief's lines seem a bit better in that Blue Team b-roll footage. Him being a bit more open and "buddy buddy" with Blue Team (and Cortana, RIP) makes more sense to me than pitting him against random UNSC officials to be emotional with, considering they're probably the only people outside of Halsey he'd be able to open up to.
I want to be excited for Halo 5 and I want to play it, but I can't bring myself to do it after buying MCC and an Xbone and having zero recourse to get a refund for MCC and there not being a recall program.
Frankie, if you want to hook me up with an MCC refund so I can pick up H5 and get my Halo hype back, that would be great. It's okay, I know you secretly love me.

On a serious note, though; I did really enjoy the H5 beta, I just can't bring myself to buy H5 after getting screwed with MCC. 343 left all of us who bought physical copies high and dry and expected us to just deal with it for a full price product that's nearly a year old and still not working fully. I kinda take it personally and don't want to hand over more of my money to them after that. I don't think that's a wholly unreasonable position...

I actually remember 343i stating in regards to the flag options in H4 that they were trying to encourage team play. Basically the idea was that someone wouldn't run over the flag to pick it up until they had communicated with their team and concluded that that moment was the best to pick up the flag and have adequate cover, or something along those lines. One of the bigger hindrances to this idea being realized in H4 was the continual decline of players partying up (for various reason) and the decline of players using mics to call out things. 343i was pushing team play when because of various causes players were increasingly playing with lone wolf styles. Can I blame 343i for wanting to encourage team work? No. Do I think there could have been a great many things to encourage it beyond greatly changing CTF game options? Most definitely.
Bring back clans! :P
