By Lord of Admirals Go To PostHalo 3 is by far one of the worst story wise. While Halo 2 is one of the better ones, it's interesting in that it changed the entire tone of the franchise.
I'm actually really glad you brought this up, because it's something I've been wanting to talk about for a while. While I've understood bits and pieces of the development process for a while now, it wasn't until recently that I discovered the full extent and downright breadth of influence Halo 2 had on future efforts. Indeed, Halo 3 more or less feels like a sophomoric Halo 2 mostly (if not fully) realized; whether the massive change in tone had to do with Microsoft attempting to capitalize on CE's potential as an ensign first-party juggernaut or some internal change in tone is unknown, though more than likely it's some combination of the two. Halo 4 and Halo 5 likewise seem to be reaching strong parallels of the same variety, to such a degree that I could probably consider CE, 3, and Reach (and more than likely 5G) the truly revolutionary leaps of the franchise. ODST wasn't incomplete or unrealized by any means, but Bungie seemed to weaponize Halo 2's developmental themes with it, particularly in it serving as a deliberate transitional buffer with elements in equal parts representing 3 and Reach.
If they continued in a Marathon-esque "alien corridors" direction with CE2 or something, it'd be really interesting to see what would have happened. Probably something like Metroid Prime.
Likewise, the music: 2 and 3 being flip sides of the same coin and ultimately crystallizing what makes Halo, well, Halo, radically altered the tone of the franchise. I think the closest we've got to CE-sounding music was Reach's soundtrack, but I also think that's partially because of how many new melodies came about. I have a feeling CE2 music (or rather CE's musical style, just with upped production values) probably would have gone in the direction of something very similar to The Forerunner Mix.

That's... that's in addition to a refund, right?
Because otherwise I'm pretty sure they just stole like 600 bucks from Frankie, or MS depending on who's covering the ticket.

Apparently in my first run through of Halo 3 the achievements didn't record for me completing a few of the levels. So I just now completed The Covenant on legendary and got about 10 achievements pop all at once.
On another note, I'm betting Halo's getting MLG:

Gamescon starts around midnight for me tonight. Yep I'll stay up and watch it. I'm curious about Crackdown, Quantum Break needs to show something new (Alan Wake was good but only 1 play through with little replayability, I suspect the same with Quantum Break) and finally I want Below & Inside. Scalebound doesn't interest me and I'm struggling to keep playing Witcher 3 TBH.
I'm guessing 343/MS are going large on the build up of HCS S1/2 experience. Probably very similar format online and live events but with massive prize money. Given they've already announced spectator mode, no splitscreen, ranked, tournies at events now for H5 arena an educated guess places prize money as the reason for pro players tweeting their excitement and the attracting of other pro players. I'm ready to be surprised though.

Seems to weird to jump ship though. ESL and 343 haven't been partnered for that long, and it's been decent so far. MLG must really be thirsty for Halo.
If the population were larger, it'd be cool to see ESL and MLG both running their own leagues, sort of in an AFC and NFC sort of way. Even have the end-of-season finals be between the top teams of both leagues.

I'm well aware of the geographical locations of Shanghai and Texas. I should have clarified. When I was in the Navy it cost roughly 1300-1500 dollars to fly back home (Missouri) from Japan. I was commenting on the high price of air fare, not the geographical location of Shanghai, or Texas.

By Poodlestrike Go To PostLike hell it is. Destiny's story is all over the place, crammed into cutscenes that were (last I checked) still mostly unskippable and loading screen monologues. It's not minimalist. It just sucks. They turned Bill Nighy into the world's most boring expositor.
Taken King is letting you skip them (including old cutscenes)

Hard lessons learned from the MCC, but stuff like this I can tell they took them to heart. I wonder if an MCC released today would be Halo 2 Anniversary and just the 360 CEA, H3, H4, and ODST bundled in.

I do notice some different sounds... I like what I"m hearing. The battle rifle sounds like a burst shot at least. Although, I really wish the pistol and sniper had a punchier sound to them. The H2A sniper sound was shmex.

DUDE...same here bro. I just rewatched it like 10 times and I'm still giddy. It looks, sounds, and feels so good and I'm not lowering my standards. The game looks really clean and sharp with that smooth 60fps.
I'm so glad I decided to only focus on Gears and Halo this year and onward. It's looking like I won't regret it.

Sorry for another long post but here we go:
This is an unpopular opinion around these parts but I really REALLY do not care for the story in Halo as much as I WANT to. I enjoyed Halo 1s story well enough, I really enjoyed the Arbiter's rise to redemption storyline in Halo 2, but Halo 3 onwards has left me cold.
I feel like the problem for me is I really don't care for a majority of the characters. I LOVE the Arbiter if not mainly for Keith David's voice acting and I felt bad for him in the beginning of Halo 2 so seeing him rise and then being a key component for the Prophets' demise was fun. I also love Buck. But what's weird is i didn't care for him in Halo 3 ODST, but now i'm so excited for him. Mainly because Nathan Fillion has been killing it in VO in the few snippets we seen especially that line "Every other Spartan, every other soldier when they hear about this....They're gonna hate us". Idk. Maybe I just have a severe man-crush on Nathan Fillion.
But besides that, nothing really. Cortana will be missed, but I wasn't like "OH SNAP THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING AND NOW I HAVE TO CRY". Heck, I was more sad when Sgt. Johnson died. I was also more sad when Jorge and Noble 6 died.
Finally, Master Chief is a pretty cool guy who shoots lots of aliens and isn't afraid of anything, but that's it to me. I have a hard time empathizing with him. Yeah kidnapping, torture, etc. was bad but I still don't feel anything. And i don't understand why. Is it due to bad writing? Is it due to bad voice actors? Poor direction? I know a lot of people will tell me to read the books, but how come other games can make me empathize with characters without books giving me insight to their every thought and motive? I just want to care for characters. I don't necessarily have to care about the story especially since how intense the lore has gotten; for example Halo 4's Librarian cutscene onwards just completely threw me out of the game. I just cared about the Cortana's rampancy arc at that point and that's because Cortana feels fleshed out compared to the other characters in the game, even though to non-book readers she's just an AI who guides you through levels for the most part.
This isn't trashing the game's story, as I understand that it's a really well written universe, but I just feel like the characters are the missing piece to making the game's story incredible.
