Sudds didn't make it to the final event. Final Boss I guess would be CLG (Ogre 2, Royal 2, Snakebite, Cloud), but I don't see them winning.
So being really curious and not trying to be a typical me post. If Frankie or Josh are here, what was the design reason behind having the Jackals go from Avian in design to Lizard/godzilla2000 in design. Im genuinely curious about why some of these changes are or were being made. Like is it something to do with thw mindshare of the artists and modelers or aomething different ?

It has amazingly meaty and satisfying gunplay, surprisingly great stealth and some excellent level design, both artistically and from a gameplay perspective.
It doesn't have the greatest story or graphics of all time but they nailed the presentation; the art design, voice acting and cutscene direction are all fantastic. The pacing is also really good and story beats come in at just the right time. Oh and the sound design and soundtrack are both incredible.
Also it has so many moments of just pure fun, I mean how many games let you duel wield rocket launchers as you murder space nazis on the moon?
It is such a good game, easily one of my favourite FPS campaigns. It's up there with Half Life 2.

I'd guess one of two things.
1) with 343's at-the-time nascent state, making things a little more "homogenous" helped expedite development processes on conceptual, artistic, gameplay, etc. scales.
2) 343 likes turning concepts on their head (see pitting Chief against past allies: Forerunners, UNSC, etc.) so maybe they just wanted to see what Jackals would be like well-fed under Mdama.
I really haven't enjoyed HCS in season 2. No spectator mode, low-ish invidual skill cap etc.
Hopefully Halo 5 will be better but I have my doubts. Maybe HCS LANs won't even be actual LANs with Halo 5.

Really, though, I suspect it basically boils down to "the artists like the look better." Nothing wrong with that, IMO, though of course it's very possible I'm entirely off base.

I think the main problem is that they did call it a Jackal, honestly. I'm all for different nationalities / subspecies of alien races, but if the subspecies card was canon since day one they probably should have gone out of their way to clarify it beyond "these Covenant are more fanatical than the ones we've fought before." Even the sentence is worded in a way that's difficult to read - it comes across as "these Covenant [soldiers; individuals] are more fanatical," not "these Covenant [factions; groups] are more fanatical."
Skirmishers were a cool addition on their own, and being a subspecies of Jackal just made it even more interesting. It probably helped that classic Jackals fought alongside them, though.
I also prefer exoskeleton Grunts. Doublechin alligator Grunts suck. #butts
By Ragnarok Flames Go To PostIts not an awful design, but if I took the shield away and asked you what that enemy was. How likely are you to guess "jackal"?Not particularly, I suppose. Still, I guess that's just not that much of a problem for me, honestly.
They aren't redesigned. They are a different species of Jackal- though they could have gotten away with calling classifying them as something else. I'm out at dinner right now but I can loresplain later if ya want.

iirc they're Ruuhtian (OG), Ibie'shan (fat Halo 4 Jackals) and T'vaoan (Skirmishers). First two are home-worlders, while the Skirmishers are actually a racial group that settled on a nearby sattelite and accustomed to different gravity.

I agree, HCS is gonna be soo good. I do think that they need to keep the arena playlists as close as possible to what the pros play. It would really help with the basic understanding of the game, and the meta. COD has a huge disconnect from their standard playlists, and their competitive playlists aren't well advertised which IMO requires a new viewer to invest more time to understand what's going on and to appreciate the level of play. Ignore after this, Edge is freaking out ---> l

As soon as I watched a few videos of Halo 5 in action, my interest in the current Halo games and their comparatively sparse movement options took a nose dive. Halo 5 is fun as hell to watch. I've pretty much entirely ignored the last few HCS events, but I'll be glued to my monitor when Halo 5 is the game of choice.
By Wesleyshark Go To PostBased Wahrer. That's my main issue. Unlike the skirmishers which were introduced alongside the standard Kig'Yar. These were for all intents and purposes presented as a pseudo replacement. Only after being questioned did they use the "subspecies" get out of complaint card. If they admit that we will see both normal jackals and these aborted dragon fetuses then it would soothe my issues. And as we know. Everything is a slight against me.

those days are up, my friend. Halo 5 saw to that.
By Mix Go To PostYou really don't think that fun is a factor when talking about the competitivity of an eSports game?I would say that breadth of appeal (fun) and depth of skill are both equally important when it comes to success in eSports. The more fun the game, the wider the playerbase, which dictates both the audience (eSports not really having the social inertia yet to appeal to non-players on any sort of scale) and the talent pool. But depth of skill is needed for watchability and, of course, to keep the pros around; a game you can master in an afternoon might keep Johnny AR (totes stealing this one from Rag) around, but you'll lose your top-tier players as they get bored or frustrated.
That's absolutely hilarious.
Fortunately, H5 seems to have both! So the future's looking pretty bright.
As a general retort, Fun is definitely subjective. Fun to me is competitive playing, 4v4, and that stuff. Fun is also wacky things like BTB and hopefully Warzone. The games that comprise eSports, and by extension, HCS, need to be appealing to not only the pros that kick ass at them, but fun for the casuals too. Including people like Johnny AR.
Speaking of AR scrubs, Study: Low status men more likely to bully women online
…unlike most inter-sexual competitive scenarios, in video games it doesn’t matter how physically big and strong you are. All that matters is how well you play.
To do this, we used Halo 3, a futuristic shooter where teams of four players compete against one another in an attempt to kill their opponents as often as possible.
What we found was that … when Jeff used a female voice, he received many more negative comments, particularly from players who were performing poorly.
This was supported by our results exploring skill level –- our proxy for an individual’s position in the hierarchy. Skill level didn’t affect how men behaved towards another man, but men lower in skill were less positive in the female-voiced treatment.
Interestingly, higher-skilled men were more positive towards women, but not men.
The study itself makes quite a questionable conclusion considering they only used one game for the test...
By Lord of Admirals Go To PostCareful how you word that! Because it now seems like you think different races are sub-species.
I'm saying from the cultural standpoint of actual aliens whose biology has spread thin enough, sub-species with as minor differences as pre-4 Jackals and 4+ Jackals are probably considered multiple nationalities within overall Kig-Yar culture, not that I'm conflating the human social construct of race with outright subspecies. Race probably isn't defined by melanin in the Covenant.

So true.
1) When the game just hands it too you, the sense of progression, of achievement gets diffused and that kills longevity for the player base.
2)Conversely, great custom games and communities have risen up specifically because the game left breathing room for the player's imagination. That left players a chance to practice the skills needed for the more competitive ranked multiplayer in a custom game setting.
3) Give the player a chance to express their creativity, give them the TOOLS and you rock the player base for years. I actually think more highly of the developers when they value the players creativity as well as their own.
