By SgtOra Go To PostOh, the site is called Sports, Life, and Entertainment. SL&ENT, slaent. I get it. It's still SLAMPERSANDENT in my heart. It took me far too long to get that...
By dwells Go To PostSo this site was built from the ground-up, huh? It's damn nice - responsive, modern, nice layout, etc.I believe reilo mentioned that it was Django/Postgres.
Anyone know what it's built off of? My guess would be Node.js and MongoDB.
By reilo Go To PostInspiration in what way? I consistently look to new trends and better programming standards and Sharp does it as well. He's really into Rust, which is like super cutting-edge.
For the backend we use Django (Python 3) and Postgres.
I'm honestly not entirely sure why I still care about Halo so much. MCC is pretty much dead, and unless 343 and Microsoft have a sudden change of heart and decide to offer a full refund for MCC to people who couldn't get a refund, I can't bring myself to buy Halo 5.
Guess I'm just here since I like y'all for some reason.
Oh, on a sidenote, I picked up some of those BoomCo guns that they're making Halo versions of. I thought they were just another cheap Nerf ripoff, but they're actually really cool. The $6 pistol I bought shoots strong, further, and more accurately than any Nerf gun I've ever used. Apparently it's a Mattel product, and they've got a whole three year business plan to take a real foothold in the market.
Also, the special polymer they developed that isn't sticky and only adheres to their surfaces is absolutely awesome. Honestly, I'm shocked they even brought it to market - I'd imagine it would've been worth more for various industrial purposes or just sold off to 3M.
See if your local Target carries the pistol - easily the most entertaining six bucks I've spent in a while.

By Wahrer Go To PostWhoa, what's that avatar from? Action figure?Yeah, sideshow collectibles made up some MC, Red and Blue Leader Mark V figures. Dunno if they're still being sold though.
It's the little details on the armor like this, a subtle reach feel, which actually makes CEA Mark V one of my favorite armor sets.
Anyone else here heading to Gamescom on the 9th? If you guys want to know anything, post it here or send me a message and I will do my best to give you a proper write-up. Now hopefully the Halo 5 line isn't absurd.

By dwells Go To PostAnyone know what it's built off of? My guess would be Node.js and MongoDB.LOL. Never. Like, Sharp hates MongoDB and neither of us are too fond of Node.js. If anything, if time and money weren't a factor, we would re-write it from scratch in Rust and Postgres.

me in a nutshell
Maybe they also base it partially off of word / character count or page breaks? Certain numbers of paragraphs could denote more importance.

Their solution must be quite a bit more advanced since they have to do an entire database write as well, whereas my solution will just be per-browser.
By jem0208 Go To PostHow exactly does slip space work? Some other users have adaquetly explained what slipspace travel is comprised of, but haven't seen a good explanation on why there's a "budget".
I've never heard of a slipspace budget before….
Einstein's Theory of General Relativity states that noting can bypass the speed of light. (Even today, the idea of a warp drive is contested as literally being unable to work, or will turn into a black hole because in some ways it breaks general relativity.) The Halo Universe gets around this by using particle guns that tear the fabric of space-time apart, allowing a 'safe' passage into slipstream space.
Now, while slipstream space is fine and dandy, it still manages to ignore the speed of light by tunneling through different dimensions. The universe doesn't like this at all as it it creates a paradox. Thankfully in Halo lore, the universe has a method of resolving paradoxes such as these known as casual reconciliation. In the current state of affairs, the universe is able to handle all the slipspace jumps just fine, and dissipates the paradoxes before they cause any noticeable effects.
Under the Forerunner Ecumene though, they had 3 million worlds and likely trillions of citizens. Slipspace travel of a monumental scale was happening literally every second. The bigger the object, the larger the paradox. In this scenario, the universe doesn't have enough time to resolve the paradoxes with casual reconciliation before more are created by simultaneous/sequential slip space travel all around the galaxy. At this point, reality literally limits access to slipspace, slowing it down, or shunting ships/objects in slipspace back into real space.
To prevent events like these from disrupting the Ecumene or causing negative effects on travel, the Forerunners created a slipspace budget, where every legal travel into slipspace was accounted for. With this budget, the Forerunners were able to adequately regulate access into slipspace, ensuring that "slipspace debt" never built up to a degree where it would be detrimental.
Of course, for what the Forerunners were doing in the late stages of their civilization, it totally did. =)
Yeah, no Jumper pls. I couldn't believe people were excited to have him on HaloGAF after years of him being annoying on Twitter.
If he came here and was like, "sorry for being a cunt" I'd accept that. But that would mean he would also have to amend his sins and actually stop being a cunt. Is cunt okay to use here? If it offends anyone I won't use it anymore. Is anyone offended? Pls respond.

I changed the post back because suddenly responses to it made no sense lol
I think the use of that word is allowed given the right context, and I think that context just might be the Football OT lol.
I think the discussed word is a great word because it's managed to retain some of its shock value by not being overused (in most communities at least). In the right context it's a good word.
It's also kinda satisfying to say when you're really pissed off. Good sound.
Thanks for the info dump on slip stream budget by the way! Makes a lot more sense now.

Kinda. It stems from his seemingly tone deaf attitude towards his own actions. He sees everyone attacking him for his "criticisms" when in reality we are attempting to point out the callous nature of his posts. You know what? Enough about jumper. Let him keep doing his thing. I know from personal experience that when my forum posting a few years ago was at its worst I was also dealing with the most shit in my life. I was externalizing internal issues I was having. I still do it time to time and have to work really friggin hard to not let it happen.
