By Poodlestrike Go To PostAll legendary is straight up sadistic.Halo 2 is the only one I find really really hard. Reach was hard unless you just embraced abusing the noob combo. Halo 1 and 3 are the easiest for me. I fucking loooooove Halo 1 on Legendary.

Harvest is up there as one of my favorite Halo maps. The DLC maps in Halo 4 were all pretty good; its map selection in general was decent in my opinion, but I'm more of a believer in good gameplay over bad maps.
Epitaph, for example, is a map that I think had a lot of potential but it was in the wrong game. That map would have played much better in other Halo games than it did in Halo 3. Isolation or Snowbound in CE? Could be interesting.

My man, preaching right here.
Halo 4 dlc was legit as hell and it's a shame it's not more glorified.
Harvest CTF should be an all time go to in ny opinion, the various flag routes on that map are awesome
Yeah, H4 DLC was a noticeable step up in terms of average quality from the base game. Harvest and Monolith are particular standouts, IMO. Monolith SWAT CTF >>>
Who did them, btw? Were they more Certain Affinity jobs or were they done in-house? Or a mix?

I wish I got a chance to play Harvest more. I skipped that DLC pack, and it almost never comes up in MCC. :(
By daedalius Go To PostLegendary metropolis makes me want to throw my controllerLegendary Halo 2 is my favourite legendary.
I'd say H3 was my favorite legendary.
CE was fine, but fuck those health packs and also the later stages were just backwards versions of earlier ones.
H2 was annoying, really annoying at times.
ODST was really easy for some reason, I don't know if it was the pistol or what, but it didn't feel like legendary, still a great game though, one of my favorite campaigns.
H3 was fun, not extremely challenging, but there was still a challenge. Plus the level design was great, multiple ways to tackle a situation.
H4 was boring on legendary, fuck Prometheans.

By NOKYARD Go To PostLegendary Halo 2 is my favourite legendary.I feel it kind of promotes boring tactics, generally having to sit on a plasma pistol the vast majority of the time to shred shields, as its basically impossible with anything else without getting instantly killed. Shotgun, useless. Plasma rifle, useless. The only things that aren't useless are snipers; even the red elites take more than a single rocket to kill.
Also getting insta-headshotted as soon as you come around a corner/a sniper jackal appears from nowhere I feel is... pretty cheap.
At least in H4, which I just finished, I could actually use a slightly larger variety of weapons. The scattershot (which is coming back in H5, and I hope its more like the flak cannon this time!) was very useful against a wide variety of knights. You could actually use automatic weapons against them to break their shields as well.
Using automatic weapons to break shields in H2 basically just means you're going to die, because the damage enemies do to you is just astronomical. Even using the sword is a terrible idea, because you'll slash an elite once, not break his shields, and then he will one-shot punch you in the face. H2 is definitely the hardest, but I feel its also the most rote of them all.

Standoff is another map that I woshed was in another Halo. I'm a sucker for two bases across from each other.

Monolith is a solid B-Tier map. It's not mind blowingly amazing, but it's really good. Reminds me a lot of Halo 3 somehow.
Halo 4 legendary was the campaign I struggled with the most. I didn't know about the knights invincibility frames until the last 40 minutes of the game. Tis a bunch of trash.
I just noticed during one of the physics impulse fail shots in the new ViDoc, we get a much clearer shot of the new Wraith:
But there's also a new-looking Scorpion in the background. Looks a bit more "modern-day," sadly.

I like the new Scorpion. It has a better, more compact profile. I'm also digging the new Wraith. Gives me a similar reaction to when I first saw it in CE.

Still heavily prefer the old design however, although I will reserve judgment for when we see it properly. I have to admit though, really liking the look of the Ghosts and Banshees this time around.

I didn't know it even existed until the other day, loaded it up in forge and it looks really quite good.
Bit annoying, I'd like to try it.
About the new scorpion, I really hope that's just an early model... I don't think it looks anywhere near as good as the classic design.

Dunno, i dont like the new Wraith: :(
Wraith looks weird. Could be some new variant though. I'm loving and hating the new Covenant design language for Halo 5. There's stuff I really like, like the Midship map, and then there's that Wraith which is just... change for the sake of change to me. I do like that things look more organic and almost "grown" like the Harvester in Halo 4. But I prefer it when it's more understated like in the new Ghost or Banshee designs. If it turns out there's just a few new variants on the more typical looking models with that organic look, then it's all good, but if it's completely replacing the old version... Ehhh I dunno if I like it.

It has less defining fesyores and looks more like a fat box.

Compared to Halo's Scorpion which looks more mobile and imposing.
I don't particularly like the Wraith. Although honestly I didn't really like the old Wraiths either. They've always looked a bit clunky and ugly to me. The new one just looks weird though...
I do quite like the front profile of the new Wraith actually. Looks kinda mean which is cool.

By -Ryn Go To PostTank beats everything.
There are reasons tanks are designed like that. A tank wants to have the lowest possible silhouette and profile, this makes it harder for other forces to spot and engage them. This also allows for more sloped armor which is better defensively. While the old Scorpion is cool, it's not as practical as the newer design.

i think it looks more imposing (thicker and beefier with a bigger canon) whilst also keeping what makes it so mobile(the 4 separate treads)

If you're fighting a Wraith, sloped armour isn't going to do anything and you want a vehicle which is fast and nimble to avoid the shots.
Not going to take part in this tank discussion, as long as it shoots and has six pedals for all four directions (maybe they can finally tell me what the other two are for) I don't really care what it looks like.
That being said, they better at least acknowledge it in the lore (latest from the boys in R&D or whatever).

It applies to all ground combat, just not against other tanks. It also makes them easier to conceal. Personally, I think the new Wraith design is stupid. It's pretty much just hey big fucking target shoot me please.

Surely the Covenant possess some highly advanced optics which a small profile would not be able to hide from.

Just because it's the future doesn't mean ambush tactics won't work. I mean sure when it comes to space combat the Covenant was/is far superior. However, when it came to ground combat it was surprisingly even.
However, none of this really matters. The game isn't going to be a combat simulator, so all this talk about designs doesn't really matter, but it is fun to talk about!

Fury was a fun movie. Obviously it was more Hollywood than history, but it was still very enjoyable.
Its still change for the sake of change and people praising the change of classic visual design language don't help.

Definitely agree with you on the new Wraith. The new design is weird. Maybe I need a better look at it but right now it just makes me think of a weird Beetle. Not a wraith or anything alien. WHY IS EVERYTHING "ALIEN" FOR 343 EITHER INSECT LIKE OR A DINOSAUR???
By Forerunner Go To PostJust because it's the future doesn't mean ambush tactics won't work. I mean sure when it comes to space combat the Covenant was/is far superior. However, when it came to ground combat it was surprisingly even.Sure that's true. But it does mean that todays ambush tactics will likely be either ineffective or completely moot. The Covenant almost always won regardless of whether they were on the ground or space until the Spartans were thrown into the mix.
However, none of this really matters. The game isn't going to be a combat simulator, so all this talk about designs doesn't really matter, but it is fun to talk about!
I'd argue that design does matter, but I agree it's fun to talk about either way lol
By Wesleyshark Go To PostCouldn't have said it better. The problem is that we're not talking about what looks more "realistic" for the tank. It was a matter of whether or not it looked futuristic. I really don't want "realism" to start infecting Halo if it means taking away what made it look and feel unique.
Did you see the movie Fury? There's a lot of tank nerd in that film, when it comes to engagement, stealth, and the structure of tanks. Great stuff.
Even taking into account realism though, there is no way in hell that stealth tactics which are beneficial today would be beneficial 500 years into the future when we are fighting aliens that are able to defy gravity, create force fields, and have super compacted plasma weapons. Also let's not forget invisibility.

As long as they remain recognizable, I don't see the real issue. Overall I think the new Covenant design looks fantastic (barring the Wraith). The insect style looks really good, especially on the Banshee.
