Never said anything about a bomb or being able to defuse it. If you get the maps right it would be quite fun.

I know. Just relating it to counter strike. I think it would be pretty cool. I would be willing to make a Dust 2 or Mirage remake in Forge.
Even though I think Pit is a tired out map, I want to see it in the Breakout aesthetic quickly after forge launches. I think it would fit very well. (not gameplay wise, just aesthetically)
By derpface123 Go To PostWhat do you guys expect from reviews of this game?MS first party exclusive with tons of production value, beefy campaign, fun and balanced multiplayer with a huge formula twist, grindy yet fair progression, free map DLCs and esports push, it basically ticks all positive boxes and the media don't really care about launch day playlists. I can see some of the outlets pick graphics and/or the lack of splitscreen as negatives.
UNLESS they fucked up the MP again which I'm confident won't happen.

Dude yes.
The Pit is not tired, what the hell belu
Anyways, I'm pretty satisfied with the launch lists. I have plenty of quibbles, but nothing major. I don't really see the point of having slayer in Team Arena unless TA has no radar, then sure. It's cool to see SWAT available at launch. It's a great palette/BK cleanser.
The thing that disappoints me the most is Warzone Assault not being actual Assault... It's just base defense. How the hell is that going to work on such big maps? I'm just imagining the two bases having all the action with zero activity in the middle of the map. If there were a bomb to fight over (you know, like in Assault, the classic gametype that already has that name) then the action would be a lot more focused, there'd be a push/pull, the fight could get dragged to whatever part of the map. I dunno, I don't get it. Sounds pretty bland.

Honestly I have a feeling that reviews may swing back to be very harsh to kind of make up for the overrating of Halo 4. I would not be shocked to see some 7's, 8's. If I had to guess I'd figure most will probably be an even 9.0. The sad thing is though that the game looks to me to be shaping up to be a lot better then 4 and I feel that maybe they should have rated 4 without goggles on to begin with. Keep in mind I liked 4's campaign and the base gameplay when you didn't have AAs and ordinance. The gun game was spot on I feel. It's just the fluff on top that ruined the multiplayer. I'd have honestly rated Halo 4 an 8.0 to 8.5 for the overall game yet we saw a ton of 10's 9.8's etc.
By RowdyReverb Go To PostI think we should make a Paintball variant of Breakout
Or a shotgun version...hmm, my "Punkt Pillars" map and game type I was planning on remaking from Halo 3 could be re-purposed for 2 team Breakout. Sprint would have to be turned off.
By RowdyReverb Go To PostI think we should make a Paintball variant of Breakout
This needs to be a thing.
By derpface123 Go To PostWhat do you guys expect from reviews of this game?9.8 out of-nvm invert beat me. 90 on metacritic give or take 2 points. lack of forge/btb will hold it back from getting 100's except from the most generous/most paid off reviewers.
IGN will give it a 9.5, gamespot a 9, Gametrailers an 8.5 to 9 because some of their videos show they don't get Halo multiplayer. Metacritic guess is 9.2
Almost finished d/l-ing the update. Who wants to play?
I'd like to do some 4v4 stuff for a change tonight. So either a party of 4 or some custom 8's pls k thx

I'm really concerned about the longevity of Halo 5's MP if game modes and core features are locked away behind "planned post launch content." Seems like a really stupid business model.
By Fahzgoolin Go To PostI'm really concerned about the longevity of Halo 5's MP if game modes and core features are locked away behind "planned post launch content." Seems like a really stupid business model.
I mean... what other kind of message would Halo 5 having a staggered post-launch release schedule consisting of previously stock launch features send?
I get the love for breakout, but I really think it's just confusing for viewers AND players sometimes when a breakout game happens. It's still a good time, but if you are playing campy (which when money and ranks are on the line will happen frequently) it devolves into a snorefest.
I legitimately think breakout will be removed from arena/hcs after the first tourney. Or they'll try full shields.

I'd prefer if it was taken out of Team Arena, along with Slayer being less heavily weighted and CTF being more weighted.

Hey guys - pooping back in to address some questions that have accumulated over the day. I've extracted a bunch out of the thread to make it easier to read rather than quoting a dozen different posts:
1. Will Ricochet come back down the line even say as a weekend social mode?
It's possible, though you are likely to see game types like Grifball and Oddball before Ricochet makes an appearance.
2. Have all the vehicles shown in Warzone / REQ Cards been all there is, or is there more vehicles planned to be in but you've only shown off a few in certain builds?
We've shown all of the base vehicles that are in the game for launch, but I don't think we've shown all of the variants available through the REQ system.
3. The reason I ask of the vehicles is because if so, it's weird that the UNSC doesn't have an aerial vehicle counterpart to either the Phaeton or Banshee.
There won't be a UNSC counterpart to the Phaeton or Banshee at launch.
4. I know that no previous Halo has launched with Team Doubles so why not use this opportunity to right that wrong with Halo 5? What was the thought process behind it's exclusion?
Quinn has spoken to our desire to have a focused set of activities in matchmaking at launch. We'll be continuing to update and expand those activities once live as part of the ongoing programming for the game, including some of the more niche experiences like Team Doubles. These will likely be featured in rotation at first and if they gain enough population, considered as persistent additions.
5. What will the Slayer playlist contain? Slayer with assault rifles and pistols, slayer with Br and pistols or both?
Starting weapons in the Slayer playlist will be AR and Magnum/Pistol.
6. Regarding the Weekend Social playlist addition, will there be more than just one playlist made available under this social banner every weekend?
Each week there will be a community vote between three different playlists, and the playlist with the most votes will be featured as the Weekend Social activity for that week.
7. Why is there no dedicated Capture the Flag playlist under the "Arena" (not the playlist Team Arena) given that CTF has always shown to be a very well supported and desired playlist?
We don't have a dedicated CTF or Team Objective playlist at launch, choosing instead to include objective modes as part of the core Team Arena playlist that features the best modes from across Arena. Currently team objective modes make up 54% of the play in Team Arena (not including Breakout, which features a neutral flag as a secondary objective). CTF and/or Team Objective are things we will likely offer as a rotational playlist and if we see strong interest from the community (consistently high population), we may graduate to a persistent playlist.
8. Can we expect to see the return of Ricochet, (Team) Regicide, Extraction, and Dominion in some form within Halo 5? Basically, is 343i interested in bringing these game-types to Halo 5?
It's unlikely that you'll see Dominion because we already have Warzone as a large-scale base capture/defend experience. The others will be considered based on community interest.
9. How long do you anticipate it being before we see an additional mode or two added to Warzone beyond the basic variant and the Base Assault variant?
We don't have plans for additional modes in Warzone at this point. There is a ton of depth and replay in these two experiences, each of which plays very differently to the other.
10. All those fancy vehicle and weapon variants like the ONI Warthog and Longshot AR, can we use them in Custom Games and Forge?
These are not currently usable in Custom Games or Forge, but we may rotate them into matchmaking for Arena as part of the core weapon set for maps in that experience.

The hits keep on coming..
I appreciate all those answers, Josh. But for reals: radar in Team Arena y/n? If so, I don't really see the point of Slayer being so heavily weighted in that list.
i think all the btb maps will just be forge creations. forge in h5 looks the best so far so thats not as bad but i was hoping for some unique maps for btb. i guess that hasnt actually been confirmed yet but...lets be real.
i cant fathom why they didnt just have strongholds and ctf as an objective playlist since breakout and slayer have their own playlists. if i wana play those modes i would just go to their own playlists???

So that's all the vehicles... and it doesn't sound like we get to forge legendary weapons. That confirmation of no other gametypes for Warzone doesn't help the lack of BTB since BTB CTF was one of my favorite modes ever. Add on the lack of a number of gametypes and this.... doesn't bode well.
Well the answers are appreciated at the least. Still excited for the game. But this has been a lot of let downs that really don't seem to make sense.
So I can clamber with my not-the-Keys pistol in Arena and....???

This isn't gonna ruin the MP or nothing, but today's announcements definitely got me scratching my head.
By Fahzgoolin Go To PostSo basically no SPNKR, M6D, or Prophet's Bane in customs.I'm just really frustrated right now. It feels like 343 is closing a bunch of doors and funneling us down these restricted corridors for no reason.
……
1. Team Arena does not need to have Slayer and Breakout when they have there own playlists.
2. People want to use all the cool new items that have been developed in customs/forge, why are they disabled?
3. What constitutes a community voted playlist being added in as permanent (how big of a population are you looking for)?
Am I crazy? Someone please tell me I'm not crazy.
Jesus Christ guys, I'm at work all day long and I come home to 7 pages of people freaking the fuck out over playlist announcements and shit? Oh well, happy to see the thread moving along nicely.
I'm very happy with the launch day playlists. I think that giving the community a reason to log back in next monday is a fun way of maintaining interest in the game. Looking forward to weekend social stuff, gotta love some random shit man.
The only weird thing is SWAT getting a dedicated ranked playlist at launch. I don't think anyone could've guessed that at all.
Today's HTT was great too, I love me some Jackals!
EDIT: Okay, I just saw the thing about no Legendary weapons being in Customs/Forge. What? Why not? I thought the whole reason 343 even decided to do the SPNKr was because people wanted to be able to use it, not have it buried by the RNGsus that is Halo 5's REQ system...

Pretty obvious why those weapons are limited to Warzone. They need to do everything they can to funnel people into the space where microtransactions will be taking place because even if you're not inclined to spend any money there, they still need you to populate that space to play against the players who will.

The playlists have me a bit bummed, but I overreacted originally. I never expected legendaries in customs/forge, that decision makes sense to me. Launch playlists still make no sense to me, but I think it's serviceable for now and they'll probably fucks wit it shortly.
im think i might hold of and wait and see what december brings before i decide to buy this game. $460 is alot to shell out when the only other game im really interested in isnt out until febuary and i have no idea if it'll actually be good. (its mirrors edge). ill still w8 on h5 reviews before i decide tho. but the game seems incomplete and im worried post launch content will be half baked (as is often the case in todays industry)

As for gametypes, Assault was seen in The Sprint, Oddball and Griffball seem to be on the list of things to add later, and there are definitely a bunch of others that will be in the game at-launch and simply aren't included in the playlists.

Either through DLC maps built around said vehicles, or by simply adding them to the maps that are already there (assuming they work well). And I'm sure they would add a completely new vehicle to Forge/Customs. We know from the Cartographers that the system they have in place means that they can add anything to Forge without issue, so new vehicles in Forge are definitely an option.

They really need to learn to stop teasing us with crap if they aren't going to deliver in a satisfying way. It feels like they want to delegate what we play even though they have said over and over that they understand that Halo means a lot of things to different people.
I just don't understand 343 at all. Quinn wants a focused selection of playlists? How about making them logical. You say you don't want the tyranny of the majority to trump lesser popular playlists? Then freaking include them at launch. Team Doubles and Team Snipers are more niche, but passionately desired playlists? Then how in the heck does including it at launch affect anyone? They might allow the SPNKR and M6D in Arena, but won't allow them in customs? Way to arbitrarily restrict fans to try and artificially inflate your stupid REQ system. They won't include KOTH and Oddball until after launch? Care to explain why?
To top it off:
Watch the BTB maps be forged on their canvases.

The armor added post-launch isn't exclusive to Warzone. The vehicle/weapons variants may very well be rotated in with the Arena maps, as Josh has just told us.
