By RedSparrows Go To PostHave to wonder why KOTH and Oddball etc aren't in there. Presumably they're in the game in customs, but why not in some playlists? Why is Breakout in Team Arena also?Breakout is in the Team Arena playlist because 343 want to try Breakout as a HCS playlist and Team Arena is basically the HCS playlist.
By nillapuddin Go To PostHALO API SUPPORT COMING TO HALO 5: GUARDIANS
Throughout the development of Halo 5: Guardians, we knew that giving players tools to access game data needed to be a top priority. We’re aware of the power of putting these tools into your hands, and teams from around the studio have been collaborating to make this a reality. Today, we’re excited to announce that Halo 5: Guardians will support a public stats API for developers. The API will allow anyone to take player stats from the game, create new websites and apps, and grow communities around these new experiences.
Here on Halo Waypoint and Halo Channel, we’ll support a fully-featured stats experience for Halo 5, but giving the community the ability to compile stats will allow developers to craft their own statistical story and experiences. The Halo API program is currently in private beta, and we’re working with both professional and community organizations including ESL, MLG, Halo Charts, Halo Tracker, and more so that they can hit the ground running when Halo 5 launches later this month. Additionally, this allows us to ensure public access will be ready to launch around the same time frame that Halo 5 releases.
Halo API will support the follow statistics:
*Service Record (Life-to-date stats for each player)
*Match History (Access to each match played)
*Carnage Report (Complete statistical breakdown for each player in a match)
We know you'll surprise and delight us with inventive and unexpected uses, and we can't wait to see what you develop and share with the Halo community later this year and beyond.
That's fantastic. The community does really great stuff with public api's.
Community accessible API...

Oh boy. I can't wait for detailed population statistics being used to back up claims that Halo 5 is a failure.
I hope Arena in Halo 5 is more successful than it was in Halo:Reach. It will be interesting to see how it goes.
By ViewtifulJC Go To Postthey will never show us population statistics againYou could estimate population if the API works like I think it will.
ever
If they are gonna push breakout to HCS, might as well put 4-player campaign coop speedruns in there.

I think it stands a better chance by not having that weird divide in ranks/divisions from the other playlists. Like the tiers or whatever are universal now. And if Team Arena is at the top of the playlists, and its settings/maps are the ones played in HCS? That could definitely help.
Gon be funny when HCS has motion tracker tho

I know some may think split-screen is a relic and useless, but split-screen was always a big part of Halo to me. My brother has no interest in playing Halo 5 at all now.
By ViewtifulJC Go To Postthey will never show us population statistics againYeah. We'll have to see if it is similar to the Reach API. There might be some hidden commands that Reach used, but this one doesn't appear to.

they really should have said that they were counting forge variants in the 21. that was shady imo. and now that casts doubt on the "18 maps post launch". i have a feeling all the btb maps will be forge variants....
Why would they need to clarify that? It's not shady. They're maps either way... I thought it was previously assumed that Forge variants were going to be part of the count. I guess people weren't assuming that lol

I'm not searching for it in hopes to avoid spoilers, but is there information from any of the early copies out there confirming the gametypes on disc for MP? Hoping we can at least play customs KOTH, Oddball, etc.

probably go up with the rest of the game next week
I've now started a ritual of watching the team Osiris intro trailer once at 2pm and once before bed.

Handled my little switch at GS to get Xbox Store credit instead of the pre-order there. Game is now in my queue, waiting for DL.

I'm about to get all Rag up in here. This is the first time I've been legit pissed at Halo's launch playlist management. Orion and Pegasus in Swat/ffa only? Why not Slayer? Eden and Empire in Team Arena only? Why not Slayer?
And someone here or on GAF told me they heard straight from the horses mouth that forge/breakout maps wouldn't count in the 21 map list, but they do. I can't believe Breakout has near as many maps as Slayer either.
They fixed the IGN format, btw.
Edit: scratch that, I was pissed at Reach launch as well. So few maps.

I'm so torn between the LE and pre-ordering digitally. I want Fall of Reach and I guess the other stuff is neat, but it would be really nice not to have to swap discs as all those other hype holiday games come out. I could leave Fallout 4's disc in the tray, but still go to H5 multiplayer on a whim.
Also, it's $80 vs. $60 since I have the Best Buy loyalty card discount on new games, so cost is less of a deciding factor.
Ugh, decisions

By Fahzgoolin Go To PostYup. Disappointed like I assumed I would be. Breakout doesn't being with standard arena. This is bullocks.
Yup. Putting a playlist with a shorter time to kill in the regular Slayer playlist is a recipe for confusion and frustration ("why do I die so fast all of a sudden?")
Breakout should not be anywhere but its own playlist. You wouldn't mix SWAT and other gamemodes, you shouldn't mix Breakout either.
The biggest bummer for me is not the playlists (though they could certainly use improvement). It's the lack of transparency from 343 that every single Forge map counted in that 21 count.
And that those 6 Warzone maps they promised? Yeah, it's actually 3 Warzone maps and 3 Warzone Assault maps (and it wouldn't surprise me if those Warzone Assault maps were just a chunk of a normal Warzone map segmented off).
Also, can someone please tell me why Team Slayer arbitrarily does not include some of the Arena maps? I guess we're just not playing Slayer on Empire, Eden, Pegasus, or Orion then? Gonna get stale real fast, and Team Slayer is the preferred mode for a lot of people.
So basically what we have here is Team Arena which has pretty much all the maps but not in the Slayer gametype and also Breakout is in there because who the fuck knows, and you have Team Slayer which inexplicably does not have all of the Arena maps.
Disappointing launch playlists and map counts are nothing new for Halo, and it didn't stop me from enjoying Halo Reach or Halo 4 as my main Xbox title, but come on 343. These are some obvious mistakes and it's clear that whatever your playlist department or whatever said is wrong when you've got this much outrage.
If I like anything about the launch playlists, it's that we've got SWAT and FFA in at launch. Always like to see those.
I guess IGN did a bad job because here's Quinn's explanation of the playlists.

I think I'm the only one that actually likes the godzilla jackal redesign. And I think they still have bird variants.

Watching people that probably don't play Halo right now rage at Halo news is pretty fun. I like watching dumb people exposing their lack of intelligence and dignity.

We've already seen four Warzone maps. Plus you have absolutely no idea if the game-type is hard- or soft-baked for playlist purposes.
That said, it's conceivable the Assault gametypes ARE indeed on segmented Warzone maps, but that'd mean 3 Warzone maps aren't in rotation at the start.

Four?
Escape from ARC, Raid on Apex 7, March on Stormbreak... I count 3, and those are the only ones in the Warzone playlist at launch. I see no reason why finished Warzone maps wouldn't be in the Warzone playlist.

We've seen footage of big MP shiz (Covie vehicles attacking some 'hogs, iirc) going on on an urban map. Likelihood it's Warzone.

That's not really evidence but ok.
Not enough to conclusively say 'four Warzone maps', I grant you, but given likelihoods, it's 'evidence': We've seen and heard nothing of BTB maps yet, thus footage of MP that features numerous vehicles is most likely Warzone at this point.
So there are no other Arena maps that we haven't seen, which is kind of disappointing, there are only two asymmetrical maps (The Rig, Plaza) and Fathom, The Rig and Plaza don't have remixes.

"Now, as much as we’re taking input from community very seriously, we also realize the tyranny of the majority can lead to unintended consequences"
Good,
That is important this way we wont have Breakout forced into a second playlist that no one wants it in, especially when it already has it's own playlist. With no Breakout in 'Team Arena' everyone wins no one loses.
Better yet, things like KOTH, Oddball, Ricochet, Regicide, Race, Assault, Territories, VIP, Headhunter, Stockpile, Grifball and many, MANY others will be in at launch because the majority wont negatively affect the minority
/s
But seriously though, why would ANYONE, ANYWHERE, EVER, think that putting Breakout in 'Team Arena' makes a modicum of sense.
