By Mdot Go To PostAs much as I like the idea of the 4 player co-op built into the story, I'm wondering if we'll miss just the solo Chief missions. Both from a gameplay standpoint along with story. I always liked the more intimate missions that had that vast scope of you being alone against crazy odds.
Just a thought; I'm bored.
Considering the way co-op is "instanced" now, I could see some co-op situations where the teams get deliberately isolated and have to face things alone.
By Invert Go To PostSo Battlefront went from a maybe, to a not gonna touch it with a 10 foot pole.
I was also massively underwhelmed. The vehicle controls were awful, the hero controls (Skywalker etc) were even worse. The gunplay was serviceable, but overall lacking depth. I just don't see it having any longevity whatsoever. I'll pick it up cheap when I can, but a bit disappointed really. Saying that, they've nailed the art and sound design. Very authentic.
It's not a bad game just kind of bland and very casual. I'm still getting it day one because I love Star Wars and they definitely nailed the authenticity. Yeah I don't really see it having much longevity, but Halo 5 is coming so whatever, just more Halo time!
I certainly had fun with it when I played with my bro. Though it has some obvious flaws such as the vehicle controls and feels as well as the Hero gameplay which seems stiff and weird to control.
The game is gorgeous though and it sounds excellent. It's also pretty fun with friends. I will likely pick it up.

What's wrong with the vehicle controls? My only issue is air to ground combat. Air-to-air feels fine. Some dogfights got pretty intense. It's on the Starfox end of the spectrum, simplistic and pretty fun.

It's on the Starfox end of the spectrum, simplistic and pretty fun.Perhaps I didn't spend enough time with them but from what I experienced, they are too janky to control. Flying them in first person also sucks. From what I can tell there is no way to look around the cockpit and your view is cramped. It also bites that you can't land them. Or have 2 people in a snow speeder.
I can't comment on much besides the feel of the movement as I was still trying to figure out the weapons. The high speed was pretty cool though.
By Sikamikanico Go To PostI guess coming from Elite Dangerous, it felt a little too simplistic for my tastes.
Elite Dangerous defines the perfect space craft/vehicular control system. Do love that game.

For sure. I play E:D regularly and its a pretty big shift. Considering the nuance in Elite Dangerous its not even comparable to this. First person is pretty much a joke throughout this Battlefront though, 3rd person is such a huge advantage almost always.
Ryn brought up a good point that they are all 1-person vehicles. It's weird they don't have a snow speeder even though they've shown them in the forest map. I think its not that controls are necessarily the issue but that everything is a power-up so time-and-time again when you play as the rebels nobody picks up the speeder to take down the AT-AT using the cable (the only reliable way to win as a Rebel).
By dwells Go To PostSo no Big Team at launch, no Forge at launch, who knows what else. Yet everyone's pre-ordering, even after the last game this company released is still missing features and not working right a year later. Y'all are lining up to give your money to a company that already screwed you over once with an unfinished game in the hopes that they won't screw you again with their new unfinished game.
Call me salty, but I just don't get it.
I personally think that they have held back some things for a couple of reasons.
BTB, so that it would not take anything away from warzone. Plus that and forge were held back I think so that they could sit back and watch the numbers, and if they start to taper off after COD and BF have launched. They can release one or the other or both to give it an injection in the arm.

Having everything be a power up really takes away from the game for me. I want to launch an aircraft out of the base. Needing to run out into the middle of nowhere for no reason and find a stupid aircraft power up, only to be immediately killed as I'm kneeling down to use it (which breaks game flow) is not fun.

It's a shame because the game can be a good time. It's just not very deep.
I've never been fond of vehicular controls in Battlefield games though... It's a shame they didn't bring in devs to work on fixing the jank for something like Battlefront though. That just seems like an obvious thing to do.
Battlefront is a lot better than I predicted. It's fun, but too simple. Might still buy it around christmas.
With the drop mode: Current map is horrible. The little holes you can fall in serve no other purpose than to be frustrating. The buddy spawn system in an 8v8 gamemode on small maps is a no no. The spawns on that particular map And mode are fucking atrocious. Your little abilities regenerate far too quickly giving players too many grenades too quickly for drop zone.
The gun play is ok in my opinion.
Vehicles seem a bit unbalanced - will probably change as you unlock more things.
The whole run to this blue glowy thing on the ground to use your vehicle is kind of ridiculous.
Darth Vader is a badass - but shouldn't be able to damn near map players with his light saber throw.
Nothing eventful happened that made me sit back and say, "that was cool."

I've been in a lot of Betas this year. Despite being the smoothest, Battlefront is easily the least exciting. I don't think I've had a single event which has made me smile. Hell, even on the few occasions where I managed 8+ killstreaks, I didn't feel particularly entertained. The presentation is seriously 10/10 - it looks gorgeous even at 720p on the Xbone -but none of it feels satisfying or empowering whatsoever. Presently I wouldn't be all that surprised if it goes the way of Evolve, Titanfall and Halo 4, holding its player-base for a very, very small time.
Gone from a Day One to a 'wait until Jan/Feb, and see what general consensus is 3-months post-launch'

I think they gave people too much of what they thought they wanted: more Battlefront. It's just too simple. They should have made it more like Battlefield, in my opinion.
I'm still enjoying my time with it, although I'm not sure it's a day one anymore for me.

Updated to the new dashboard last night. Didn't encounter any bugs yet, but all I did was navigate and watch some TV.
I tried to opt out after I thought it might compromise Halo 5 with any issues, but too late now without doing the whole factory restore. Seems OK so far though and I hope by the time the game launches, it's more stable and release-ready.
I like the look of it though and it runs really smooth so far. I like the quicker menu overlay too with the Xbox button double tap.

I'd rather have a uprezzed port of Battlefront 2.
That being said, I thought it looked amazing visually.
Extremely disappointed.

Battlefront is really flat from a gameplay perspective but holy frickin' hell have they ever nailed the aesthetic of Star Wars. It may be mindless fun but I'm fine with that because reliving those classic moments (Hoth invasion FTW) is so awesome. Not a fan of the PvE Survival mode so far but it's a beta so who knows how old this build is?
Anyway, DAY ONE for me.

They definitely nailed the aesthetic. I just don't know if it'll hold up to repetitive play given how little there is once you've come down from the high of feeling like you're actually in the star wars universe... Which should last a for a time.. But for how long can the novelty last haha. It'll be interesting to see.

Yup. The problem is that each battle feels almost identical. The "moments" you go "holy shit" are rare. On Hoth those moments are only in the aircrafts for me, every other vehicle feels like crap. Last second speeder takedowns are super rewarding. There is a good amount of "one more game" phenomenon but not as much as in Halo for me, where, because of the sandbox, feels unique everytime. I'm cautiously optimistic, I'll wait for reviews to pull the trigger. Probably will get it during the holiday.
Another thing I found frustrating was partying up - maybe Halo makes it seem simple, but DICE never get it right. Make a party, join games together. That's how it should work? But no, I need to "pick a partner" then if I start a game, he has to wait for the game to tell him to join. It's a little thing, but it leads to frustration.
I compare every multiplayer experience with Halo's and Destiny's. Way more games fall far below that standard than those that are up to par. You take it for granted.. The simplicity of connecting with friends.. Until you play a game that either does it poorly or confusingly to the point where it's blatantly obvious how good it is elsewhere.
I mean, I loved the first two Battlefronts and in many ways they were incredibly cruddy games. The AI was atrocious, the vehicles were floaty, drifting pieces of garbage (luckily it only two a few shots to lay waste to someone.) But piling in with a friend against some other guys and a mess of AI bots was still brilliant, and I loved the push-and-pull. Doing it solo also had a great sense of "you against the world" because your AI teammates certainly weren't going to win the game for you.
The fact that they haven't managed to do anything besides making it a prettier representation of the films is a shame, because that wasn't an area the series needed help with.

I guess I'm looking at this as a super casual game to sit down and relax to for an hour every now and then. Is it something I'm going to be playing constantly, feeling competitive about? Not at all. But being able to jump into some of my favorite Star Wars moments and just run around going PEW PEW is all I really need from this. Plus it's a great "My First Shooter" for my 7-year old (though he is already pretty decent at Halo).
I'm reserving judgement until I can play more; Drop Zone didn't work at all last night, and Walker Assault worked for like an hour before it failed to find servers for me or my friends. Agree on the art/sound being 11/10, though.
Agreed; it's going to slot in with Splatoon for me.
Speaking of which, Splatoon is the primary reason I feel comfortable with the staggered release of BTB/Forge/etc... It's arguably better than Splatoon, as they locked on-disc content for a drip-feed release to build up/maintain interest. Whereas H5 stuff isn't on-disc; it's still being finely tuned.

I agree that the design, both sound and art wise is superb. Hearing blaster fire ping off surfaces around you was great, and yeah, even the muddy upscaled 720p didn't hurt my eyes too much. Just wanted...more I guess. :(
Still...some other game is coming out in 17 days. I think that maybe that'll keep me busy for a while!

Definitely should be a great fit then, in those contexts.
I want to see how younger people react to guns not hitting like they're used to. The travel time of the blasters that requires individuals to lead their shots occasionally gets frustrating even now that I'm used to it.

This point is brought up all the time in forums and threads, but I really don't get it. The original Battlefront games were basically 80% Battlefield games with Star Wars motifs. Their inspiration in Battlefield: 1942 (which came out shortly before Pandemic began development in 2002) is blatant throughout the vast majority of the original's mechanics. It's weird that people wished that it wasn't simply Battlefield: Star Wars edition, as that's mostly what the first two were.
Perhaps what those people really mean is that they don't want it to resemble the modern Battlefield games. Yet if it did, it would be a far, far better game than what it is now.
Halo ought to be noice though :)))
I nearly hit a 100 kills in a game of Battlefront.
I've been going 50-60-69-56-48
Even on the other side, managing 30-40 kills a game.
:O
Imma stick to H5 for small scale stuff and Battlefront for large scale bonanza.
Also count me out of Battlefield SW
I've put almost 800 hours into BF4, and I'll put that much into Battlefront over the 2 years or so. Really don't want the franchises to be at similar .

I'd love EA & MS to get DICE to make ODST Battlefield. I know that sounds like a bad idea, but imagine seeing all the Covie stuff from a ground war perspective. It would be ODSTs/Marines VS Covies - Playable classes - not sure. But it's something I'd want to see. All the destruction, plasma melting walls....

Yeah, a DICE Halo game can definitely work.
I was secretly hoping warzone would be it, at least from a player count perspective.

I look forward to playing the full Battlefront. The shallow mechanics probably means I won't play it for more than a couple weeks before I sell it, but if the rest of the scenarios are as well executed as the Walker Assault, the Star Wars fan in me demands that I spend some time with it.

I think Reach was on a better tack with Generator defense and Invasion, and you could evolve it from there—one side are Spartans with a few marine AI, the other side you start out with Grunts and as you get kills and complete objectives you can unlock other Covenant classes to grab an objective, and then swap rounds.
Really with all the other issues with Battlefield games I just don't think they'd be a good fit to create a Halo game.

Depends on which DICE turns up
1943 and BC1/2 DICE is best DICE
It's when they go overboard, and disregard balance, it becomes a problem.

I'm really torn on Battlefront. It's so meh. The gameplay really isn't very tight or fun, to be brutally honest, but they certainly have captured the feel of the universe.

I'd play that hard.
just beat halo ce on legendary and got 100% achievement (360 ver). did my legendary run on the og grapix for the true experience. i got completely shut down by some of the harder achievements and it was a nightmare just getting through heroic when i got it 4 years ago. i think h2 is still harder tho (which i beat a few weeks ago). despite some obvious flaws (tfw you doge an enemy melee turn watch him flail in the other direction and its still registers as a hit, or when you aim to far to the left with the tank and your shot misses by the right) the game is amazing.
battlefront looks good aesthetically to me but the gameplay always looked...clunky? was never really interested although im not much of a star wars fan beyond having seen the movies.
