I'm enjoying their revised approach to the characterization of the SPARTAN-IIs, which is merely a complete backtrack of their recent characterization and a return to the Bungie/Nylund days.
Which was infinitely better than a bunch of 40-year-olds that have been bred from almost birth for combat and know literally nothing else lamenting the lost childhoods they'd have virtually no conception of.

By Forerunner Go To PostHonestly, I don't really want to see her come back, makes the ending of H4 pointless. I mean characters die off; Johnson, Keyes (both), and etc. Cortana should be no different.Oh I agree, I'm just stating, based on the facts I have, it looks like she's back. That being said in an episode of The E3 Sprint, Halsey says Chief isn't ready emotionally to deal with "her" as a threat. She never actually says Cortana but its the only female character that he has an emotional connection to (apart from Halsey, who is saying it, and the female Linda and Kelly, who are with Chief)

I never felt she was lost for all time. Keyes/Johnson's deaths had a sense of finality to them. To me Cortana’s did not
By Trey Go To PostHas promethean vision and other such wallhacks been cut from the game?
Yup.
There is a spectator mode now though which includes an Oracle style feature.

Here are some images I felt were worth sharing. The game looks visually inconsistent however and I hope a lot of the jaggies and texture smear is worked out before release. It can sure POP visually though! These spaces inspire childlike wonder in me again. I want to run around and explore.

It had meaning to me!
I don't know if I like the campaign being squad based. Some of the greatest of all time Halo levels would lose something if there were 3 other players there.

By db Go To PostWhere is the old guard, the ones permed a while back like juices, kyle and ez can come here.I miss juice-dawg!
Halo 4 was not bad IMO
To make up for split-screen removal I require Arby and The Flood for Halo 5
Muchas gracias

Its being designed for it which is a big difference. The spaces look larger too. I like the idea that it feels like "we are on an adventure together" kind of vibe. I love the lone wolfing it in past games, but I feel pretty open to what I'm seeing. Reach felt pretty good in this regard, this looks better.

The Flood is already confirmed not to be in H5.
By NSA Go To PostHere in line for the Halo panel at SDCC.. Couple more hours for goodness!!YOU ACTUALLY WENT.
MY HERO
By Lord of Admirals Go To PostDo we have any links for the panel when it starts in 2 hours?
Its not being streamed. May be online at a later date per Frankie.
Cross posting a comment from Frankie ing the GAF thread which surprisingly isn't totally terrible.
All levels have been designed for four human players and are often much more vertical than prior episodes. This has profound implications for replayability for single and co-op play through.
5AM wakeup call and everything! Haha.. I will try and update here as it happens. They usually don't let you photograph or video the stuff they show on screens so I'll see what I can get away with...
By jem0208 Go To PostCross posting a comment from Frankie ing the GAF thread which surprisingly isn't totally terrible.I'm excited. Our most repayable Halo since Halo CE. Possibly even more so with the level design they're doing.

Even just notes on what you saw is perfectly awesome for me.

Let's hope so. I still go back to Halo CE for that sense of awe and mystery. Other games did it too, but not as consistently or as memorably.

By -Ryn Go To PostYou say it like H4's ending had much meaning to begin with.I think how it impacted the Chief in Halo 5 will be very meaningful.
Anyways, that ViDoc was awesome. I'm so pumped for this fall seeing how not only Halo 5, but MGSV and Fallout 4 are also releasing. It was nice knowing you social life.
Can we not have the helmet block any part of the screen. Thanks. The faint lines are fine but the Black sections of the actual helmet ironically break my immersion.
Just watched the ViDoc, game is looking good. I like the graphics overall, the desert canyon looks awesome. I like the hidden alternate paths the game has too, even if they're aren't so hard to spot. I honestly think this could be one of my favorite games in the series. It could even be in the same league as CE.
They just need a legendary magnum.
They just need a legendary magnum.
Okay so (the) NSA needs to periscope the entire thing, and I need someone to watch his periscope live stream, while filming their screen watching it, upload to YouTube so I can watch on demand when I get home.
So the ViDoc thread on GAF is all but lost
All this crap started when folk decided that next-gen meant 1080p
Meanwhile, I'm pleased to see the wide-open spaces Game Informer talked about in the ViDoc and the art style looks great. If we have multiple ways to complete objectives and quiet moments to explore mixed with set pieces, I will be happy. It does look inconsistent in some places, but we'll see how final code looks.

I wonder what they reveal if anything during today's panel. I am trying desperately to catch up with the fiction this summer. I’m at the tail end of Ghost of Onyx and am really excited to see Blue Team in action.
I guess my thing is that none of the squad based encounters shown so far have grabbed me. They just don't feel intuitive, or an evolution of AI squadmates in Halo past. Not to say there weren't dope gameplay sequences in the old Halos (Silent Cartographer, Ark, ODST), it just feels more...bloated now. Halo's lean cast of characters was always a strength to me. And I'm worried the campaign pacing might feel off.
I'm still excited for the game though. Looks pretty good on the whole.

Not sure they'll let me periscope it or not. We shall see. Maybe Frankie can give permission (lol). Its a comic con thing.. They need to preserve the exclusivity I guess... Couple hours to go!

Still need to see more forerunner structures and whether or not they look like actual places that were "lived in" or if they look like video game paths with no other purpose than to be traversed by the player.
By Forerunner Go To PostIt had meaning to me!Kind of
By Wesleyshark Go To PostIt had a lot of meaning to me :cI'm just teasing ;p
Mostly
By Gnome Scat Go To PostI think how it impacted the Chief in Halo 5 will be very meaningful.I have do doubt the actual loss of Cortana itself will have an impact on Chief. As a matter of fact I'm counting on and looking forward to that.
Anyways, that ViDoc was awesome. I'm so pumped for this fall seeing how not only Halo 5, but MGSV and Fallout 4 are also releasing. It was nice knowing you social life.
Halo 4's ending however, did not feel like it had any real meaning or impact to it. Cortana's death in particular felt rather forced. I was actually disappointed in how not sad I was. Not because I disliked Cortana as a character either. It just felt like they were killing her off for the sake of feels.
Just a forewarning I ended up going on a tangent about how Cortanas death could've been done differently so that was weird. Ultimately what I'm trying to say is that while Halo 4's ending will certainly have implications on Halo 5, its execution killed a lot of any intended meaning it was supposed to have for me. Now below you can read my (likely terrible) alternative for how Cortana's death could've played out.
I actually feel it would've held more impact if Cortana hadn't shown up at all after the explosion and we just had Chief waking up alone. In space. With nothing but dustin echoes around him. Have it really settle in what had just happened as Chief continues to try and reach Cortana through the comms in vain. Make him a bit shaky perhaps but don't make him break down in a fit or some forced bullshit. And then if you really wanted to, you could have him look over and see her busted chip amongst the debris as those few key piano notes play.
Hammer the fuck home how lost or alone he now feels thinking she's dead but not knowing. Then in Halo 5 when he finds some sort of evidence that she lived (which I am almost completely sure he does) he goes AWOL, no bullshit, fuck you guys I'm finding my Mom/Girlfriend/BFF.
