By Lord of Admirals Go To PostI dunno. But using 7.1 dolby surround sound headsets, Halo 5 blows every game I've ever played's sound design out of the water.
Halo 5 still has great sound and is definitely more advanced in a lot of areas, but it shares a lot with Halo 4 in that some of the weapons sound kind of muffled. The explosion animations also look really funky, and they look so damn satisfying in H2A.

3 off the top of my head are BR, DMR and sniper. There's obviously no DMR in H2A to compare, but the other two have the crack of a real weapon and the echo afterward that seem absent in 5. It's almost like those weapons are being shot in an indoor firing range in 5.

But the BR on H2A I don't hear any background echo when firing.

It's almost like those weapons are being shot in an indoor firing range in 5.I obviously don't know about all the weapons for H5G, but in one of the ViDocs/Bulletins/Sprints they showed how they recorded some weapons (sniper I believe) outdoors. How they edited it will obviously make a difference too, but it's at least apparent they have a more specific vision for how they want the weapons to sound.
For the record, I like the way they sound in H5G.
I feel like people want all the guns to sound like cannons that can shatter planets. Halo 5's guns sound like real guns. Maybe they are too used to the over-exaggerated sounds of previous Halos.
By jem Go To PostAfter getting used to it again it's really not that bad.
I still think it's the weakest title on the MCC.
I remember being so disappointed in Halo 3 when it launched. The Matchmaking and online experience in general was stellar, but going from Halo 2 to the sluggish unresponsiveness of Halo 3 felt horrible.
I was really sad there was no BXR's lol

I strongly disagree. I have shot numerous weapons in real life and almost all guns are loud and concussive. Even with ear protection (as everyone should use), a simple 9mm glock sounds scary powerful. Halo 5 does not sound realistic lol

They did that in Halo 4 too, and I thought most of the weapons sounded terrible. You can record sounds but know how to equalize or add effects to it properly. Halo 4's assault rifle, DMR and sniper all sound like a muted thump, just not very satisfying. Halo 5 is a huge improvement, but as a stickler for audio a couple things still bug me. I actually like the new shield bleeps sounds though, which is funny because that's what most people are complaining about in regards to H5's sound.

It's definitely a lot slower than the other Halos. However I've stopped thinking of that as a negative. I find it to be quite a nice change of pace to Halo 4 and H2A.
Regarding sounds I like everything but the pistol. It sounds really muted and just weak.
All the others sound great, especially the AR, that thing is beastly.
Wahrer Magic: guns are less powerful-sounding in H5G because GEN-II suits have more protection against external sensory factors that could be damaging: compare your ears ringing from grenades in Reach and the blinding sun of CE to the muffled guns and crushed blacks in H5. lol

Completely agree. The pistol sounds a bit dinky. The DMR is my favorite sounding gun from H5 atm. The metallic springy sound it makes reminds me of shooting an M4 with the bolt sliding back into the stock.

Do you actually expect a sound effect coming out of your television/headphones to be as concussive and powerful as the sound you hear firing an actual gun yourself? You've got some crazy expectations man.
I don't see how Halo 5 can sound anything except realistic when they recorded actual guns firing. Maybe they used fake guns.
Recording equipment, mixing, editing etc. can have a fairly large effect on the sound.
Edit: the X1's OS is a piece of shit. It's so damn slow.

Lol forums, where everyone jumps to conclusions. No, I don't expect that and never said that.
I like punchy and harsh like guns are. I do like the sound of the AR/SMG. Some things just sound underwhelming, but it's not a big deal.
Battlefield sounds are incredible and convincing. Their sound design is awe inspiring.
Even if they're recording "actual" guns firing you're not going to get the full sound profile as you would actually shooting it.
DICE really is the king of sound design.
The Battlefield games are incredible. Hiding in a hole whilst tank fire rains down upon you is terrifying, largely due to the sound design.

Talking about Halo 4 are we?
By Invert Go To PostEven if they're recording "actual" guns firing you're not going to get the full sound profile as you would actually shooting it.More to the point, you (general consumer "you') don't really want "real" sound effects, unless we're talking gun porn. What you want is great sounding effects, which may or may not resemble the real deal in any way. See: actual silenced weapons vs. Hollywood silenced weapons, the audible sharpness effect, etc.

You can spawn audio volumes in Fo5ge, but all the sounds are just narrated shuddup bitch fights involving team beyond drama queens
By Wesleyshark Go To PostTalking about Halo 4 are we?If the hivemind is me then yes lol.
I've praised Halo 4s campaign. But not the multiplayer gameplay.
H5G's shield sounds are the best in the franchise. The original just sounded like a bread-and-butter effect - modulation with a tinge of effects thrown in - made in like twenty minutes of dicking around, and over time people came to regard it as some infallible staple and testament to Bungie's creative genius. Just like most of their developments. Come at me.

Hey, so what's the deal with the stances? I thought they were basically H5's version of H4's baseball card poses, but do they actually change the end-of-game animation?
