By Granadier Go To PostYou're right. The billion dollar company was strapped for cash to make a game and had to go beg papa Sony for some money.
You seriously believe that shit?
What is more, if Sony paid all that cash because it was needed to get the game made, why in hell would they let it be on Xbox?
Call of Duty is made perfectly fine without the marketing moolah, but they get it because it's a juggernaut and they can. It's greed at the end of the day, but it's their show.

Eh it was more for marketing than anything else. Activision fronted a hefty sum for the ten year franchise. Playstation wanted to drive sales of their own console by doing what Microsoft has always done with marketing partnering with titles for exclusive content. It's not a bad or a good thing. It's popular and people buy into it, so of course it's going to keep happening.
The Xbox versions didn't hurt because of it... The content that was exclusive is now available, and the new exclusive content for the next year on ps4 and ps3 is basically the same tier... One strike and one weapon and class armor. Not a big deal whatsoever.
+1 on playing MGSV to fill the time til Halo 5...
This is my first Metal Gear game (aside from Ground Zeroes) and I'm having a blast. The story isn't really the forefront, but there sure as hell is more there than Destiny. The gameplay has a lot of depth, too. Every day I'm finding or hearing new tricks to try out.
Destiny lost me year 1 after all of the dumb upgrading path changes (like how with the first DLC, shard upgrading a fully levelled Exotic gave NO benefit over shard upgrading a completely unlevelled one; either way your level progress was reset to 0%), plus the PS4 exclusive stuff in DLC that I was being charged the same amount for. I bought the stupid digital Guardian edition at launch, and ended up barely playing HoW due to pure lack of interest. I did the new story stuff, which took 1 evening, and then... meh. The backstory of the Traveler had me intrigued, but shit, if it's all only ever on grimoire cards on bungie.net, why should I keep paying more for it?
I'm aware they've fixed some of this stuff, but for me personally it's too late to matter. I've moved on. Vault of Glass was fun, but my group quit the game before trying the Crota raid. I'm ready for Halo, and MGSV is making a helluva appetizer

Taken King campaign is pretty great. Just completed the main quest line this morning, I haven't done the new subclass stuff yet or anything else really, and it's really good so far.

By AllIsOneIsNone Go To PostFrankles said forge is coming, and he said it was gon be good. Y'all need to stop worrying! Although I do wonder how their "consistent 60fps" mantra will work with it, given the possible inflated polygon count. Maybe their dynamic resolution will deal with it, can't wait for some 240p forge maps.Until we see actual footage Frankie can say whatever he wants.
Or 343 can just stop talking and actually show the damn footage.

The main quest was so freaking fun. I loved the mission that you had to stay cloaked and sneak around Crota's End, and then listening to the Deathsingers actually singing…. So creepy. Playing TTK so far has felt like classic Bungie in all the right ways.

I'm sure part of the fun of being a developer is watching your fans suffer. They're just toying with our emotions; gotta keep that balance of hype/tension. I'm 100% super positive they have top people working on the psychology of the hype train.

What's with the general angst regarding Forge? It literally makes no sense to me. A developer/publisher controls what is shown, not the eager desires of fans. They aren't obligated to show us anything. At least 343 isn't like Valve or something similar.
Forge probably has the highest amount of bugs, tweaking, adjustments, and tinkering with new features. Due to the nature of Forge, they probably won't show us anything until it's basically the final build.
Calm yo selves

So apparently Frankie had explicitly stated that there would be online co-op matchmaking and now we find out there isn't. I really wish they wouldn't announce stuff during the hype phase and then quietly go back on it prior to launch. Like, I get that stuff happens, but don't announce features unless you're certain they'll be shipping at launch.

Sounds like he just mispoke to be honest. I don't think we've had any other sources mention it and they've talked about campaign coop loads. If it really was ever a feature it would most likely have been mentioned elsewhere as well.

If this were the case their hype train would be running exclusively on "Halo 5: Guardians is a video game where a playable avatar exists, and also there is art on the cover." Content / production / distribution security doesn't really exist in gamedev.

There is online coop. It's matchmade as well.

Online coop is what we'll be doing. Dropping in and out thanks to dedi's. The matchmade is probably misspoke, as he's also said that this was decided fairly early on to not have public matchmaking with randoms... And I'm sure that decision was made well over a year ago if not longer.
Eh. Halsey was a monster, when it comes down to it... Both her and many others who were also involved. The Spartan program ended up becoming vital to humanity's survival, but its origins were pretty damn barbaric.

I think the Halsey dilemma is the most compelling thing about the franchise post Halo 3. If they focus more on that and how it affected the spartans and their minds I would be much more likely to buy into the MC's existential crisis. In fact, there is even some ethical issues with Cortana and artificial AI's being made from DNA. She was essentially a person trapped in a digital form. Not human, but so self aware it's almost cruel.
Hopefully 343's story focuses on the strengths of the dark tones established by the lore. I'm concerned they will just focus on the Chief vs Locke conflict too much and create an overly predictable plot line. If Halo 5 will truly "change the Halo universe" going forward, then I hope it's not something we vaguely experience at the tail end of the game. Halo CE introduced the flood and it lingered throughout the game. I loved that.

You are right. Now imagine though that she was not alone. Image a hypothetical story line where the military AND government agencies were not only complicit but partners, and in some cases creators of these events.
THEN imagine these scientific breakthroughs that she made helped the survivability of the already condemned children and breakthroughs were ultimately the salvation of all humankind.
THEEEENNN imagine the military and government agencies that were only in it for the evil parts unanimously condemned the one person, who made the program a success by protecting the children as best she could.
In that scenario Halsey would be evil, amongst a sea of thousands and thousands of FAR more evil people who are claiming the high ground and condemning her at the same time.
If only that (totally hypothetical) story was what happened...

Oh, what could have (so hypothetically) been!
She would still be the mastermind behind the whole thing and in the end would be responsible for the murder and torture of multiple children.
Also I agree Fahz, I hope they don't play it safe with H5. I'd love to see them delve into the darker side of Halo.

Josh Holmes on the campaign matchmaking thing
Damn, Fahz on the money with the prediction http://m.neogaf.com/showpost.php?p=179020175
We've never had any plans for matchmaking in co-op campaign. If Frankie said that once, he definitely misspoke. Which, as MeanBean mentions above, happens sometimes when you're speaking off the cuff in front of people. It's hard when everything you say goes under a microscope.
As far as why we didn't spend time supporting it, Frank's GAF post covered that, plus there was never much interest from players. We saw that in response to surveys as well w/ low participation in matchmade co-op for Halo: Reach. Playing co-op with friends is much more fun.

So is the current debate about whether or not Halsey is evil or is it about where she lands on the scale vs the rest of ONI/UNSC?
Halsey is kind of a terrible person, and I'm cool with her being called out for it. The ends do not justify the means.
Less cool is that quite a few of the people calling her out for it are people who really shouldn't (mostly Paragonsky, who's arguably even more culpable than Halsey), and even less cool than that is the way that that criticism basically devoured Glasslands in its entirety, and continued to be a major harping point thereafter.
In short, fuck Karin Traviss.

How about the mission that took us back into Crota's End??? Fucking sweet. I played that with a buddy of mine and we were both so jazzed the entire time haha. Creepy as hell, but really fun.
And for a FPS… The Oryx boss fight was actually really good. Challenging, and not a bullet sponge. I was impressed.

Those books perfectly setup how hypocritical ONI is, on top of how much of a really nasty person Halsey was in what she had set out to do. It doesn't hold back at all. There's a very dark side to Halo lore and Bungie mostly danced around it without digging too deeply. Lots of moral grey. Lots of backstabbing.
In short, Karen Traviss did just fine.
I think I'm going to buy TTK right now. Should I use the free level boost immediately and play through the new TTK story or get to the max level the real way by playing original Destiny?
By -Ryn Go To PostSo is the current debate about whether or not Halsey is evil or is it about where she lands on the scale vs the rest of ONI/UNSC?
ONI/UNSC + Halsey = Spartan IIs, who were provided for medically and technologically by Halsey to protect them as best she could.
ONI/UNSC - Halsey = Spartan IIIs, who were created as disposable meat shields and sent to be slaughtered in suicide missions.
So on a scale of 1-10 of evilness. If all these books are painting Halsey as a 10. The UNSC and ONI must be an ELEVENTYBILLION!

That boost is nice... But it doesn't boost your subclass tree at all, just your overall character level. You'll get to jump into the new quests but you'll still be starting a subclass from scratch. FYI. That being said, even us veteran players started the new third subclass from scratch yesterday so it's not like you'd be at a total disadvantage.
That being said, I'd go through it all from the beginning. But that's just how I'd do it. Entirely up to you haha.
