By zoabs Go To PostI'm confused how squad commands work. In the blog post, one of the directors said that while testing the level he helped design, he would order each member of his squad to do something differently. Isn't there only one button (up on the d-pad) that's used for squad commands? And usually when we've seen squad commands on video, they all focus fire on something or all head to one location. So are individual squad commands possible, but we've just not seen it?They did say the commands were contextual in nature. Perhaps the team member has to be in you field of view or you put your reticle on them to get them to respond to your command. So in that case he looked at each member individually as he ordered them to do different task. Just a guess on my part.

Also, have we heard whether other AI (such as marines, should they be in the game) can also be controlled with these controls, or if it's just Fireteam controls?
I'm pretty sure its random what member does what. But its a contextual thing. If you're aiming at a weapon and press SQUAD COMMAND, somebody will pick it up. If you're aiming at an enemy, they'll target him. If you're aiming at a spot on the level, they'll get to it. If you're aiming at a vehicle, they'll get in it.
By Fahzgoolin Go To PostEDIT:I got banned for basically agreeing with Jem last week. They're getting a little touchy in any Halo threads over there and it's absurd.
I requested a voluntary ban and they didn't give it to me. I'm proud this happened:
You have been banned for the following reason:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=178761209 When someone is a jerk, the correct response is not to try to one-up them in jerkitude. Please reconsider your approach to Halo-related threads.
Date the ban will be lifted: 09-28-2015, 02:00 PM
Ban lifts on my birthday lol. It's almost like the mods was being self-aware that Halo threads are full of BS: "reconsider your approach to Halo-related threads."

I like this guess the most. I'd hope you could set up a formation as you could in Republic Commando) it's been a while but I vaguely remember having a member on either side of a door and one manning a turret in the front of the door
If it's just contextual throughout, I can see it getting frustrating as sometimes you want a specific person with a specific weapon doing something (like holding a position or attacking an enemy) while another specific person is ordered to go into a vehicle.
Only thing I need now is scoring and Grunt Birthday Party
shooting grunts just aint the same without getting a headshot medal and some children cheering w/confetti

By Poodlestrike Go To PostYeah, not sure about that myself. It's clear that you can give orders to specific squad members, but I don't think I've seen an explanation for how exactly that works.Same way it did in Republic Commando. Target ai, press up. Then target objective and press corresponding button.

By LoopOfHenle Go To PostThe campaign spaces continue to look really well designed. Loved the platforming along the ruins.
Whomever the team members were that were assigned to rocks and statues... They did the damn thing and then some.

They're not getting touchy, they're setting examples to try to change your behavior. They've done the same shit to NBAGAF, PopGAF, and BlackGAF. Y'all got too comfortable and stopped giving a fuck about the rules and let your thread become an actual community instead of just another thread with a topic.

By Fahzgoolin Go To PostDo you think Republic Commando holds up today? Thinking about playing it.It's a little janky by today's standards, but it holds up reasonably well. Other than the incredibly weak main weapon, which is and will always be garbo. Better off wristknifing fools.

Like I said on GAF, this ain't Destiny. If we want to play with the dregs of humanity, picked at random by a sadistic algorithm whose newfound sentience is spent entirely on picking the worst possible matches, let us.

I don't think the lack of campaign matchmaking is too big of a loss really.
I mean it could be nice to have I guess but I think the time and resources would be better spent elsewhere.

There are literally no negatives to including it (ignoring resource management etc.)

It's not like I really give a damn about it; I maybe used the feature one or two times, tops. But Frankie's first response was like... wut? And of course Wesley rode his train.
I get the technical aspect, though. That I'm fine with.
Little used feature that causes more grief than it is useful gets cut so resources can be spent elsewhere on better features.
By Wesleyshark Go To PostReminded me of Prometheus immediately.Prometheus was garbage, but it nailed visuals. Which made it more disappointing overall. :P

Anyway, Halo 5 is looking mighty fine. The scale is very welcome from what we had in Halo 4. They also said there's an emphasis on exploring for hidden items, which makes me really happy. It'd be cool if you had to unlock the legendary weapons and could only use them on subsequent playthroughs. Tim Longo knows his gameplay mechanics.
By Ragnarok Flames Go To PostSame reason people are happy we don't have split screen. PedantryAvoiding scrubs playing split screen in multiplayer is not a minor thing.
Yeah I don't use/plan on using campaign matchmaking, but I think people who use campaign matchmaking in general just want to play with other humans and socialize and have a good time and are NOT planning on griefing. That was my experience with firefight, and I'm assuming it would've been the same with campaign.

The Prettiest Turd. :p
I liked it a lot but I totally understand why people didn't like it. Hopefully Prometheus 2 nails the visuals again (I'm sure it will) but also not get spliced into incoherencey in the editing room.
That footage reminded me again.
343 really know how to make their rocks. Damn they look good.
Also this is fairly nitpicky but am I the only one who finds the way that the HUD appears/disappears in this GIF to be really jarring?

Campaign matchmaking is a totally different animal than splitscreen. It's not a lowest common denominator that they have to design levels and encounters around to make sure one xbox can run it all multiple times. That said, I think campaign matchmaking is even more of a marginalized feature than splitscreen and most people will be ok without it. At least it's not like Destiny where content is just unplayable for people who payed for the game and don't have the people to play with.
By jem Go To PostAlso this is fairly nitpicky but am I the only one who finds the way that the HUD appears/disappears in this GIF to be really jarring?Better approach would've been to not have the HUD there during the fall, or perhaps to fade it out synced with the letterboxing bars dropping in.

It's weird how the helmet sections kinda pop in after the rest of the HUD though.

It's kinda necessary though since you need to be able to see all of the stuff that TTK players have whether you have it yourself or not.

However including all the new content that standard players wouldn't be able to access is bullshit.
Also, the VIP rewards are now live. Go pick up yourself some black ass shaders, emblems and sparrows. They're really nice.

I wish i liked destiny. :( I hope Borderlands 3 is the game Destiny wishes it was and more. Yeah the humor was grating 80% of the time, but at least it had characters, a personality, and a story....Borderlands 2 at least.
And the loot in that game....SO GOOD (if not gimmicky at times but still it felt like you were getting legit new guns)
Or maybe Destiny 2 will be a huge step up.
As I said before I'm hoping for some truly unique variations of guns in req packs. Like a needler that ricochets off of ALL surfaces like 10 times or it hits someone, or a beam rifle you can charge , or an assault rifle that shoots flaming bullets. Or a gun that makes everyone you kill turn into grunt bday party. Just throwing ideas out there.

Do you guys think with the improved automatics and plasma weapons, the noob combo will be as important in higher difficulties of the campaign? We do know at least in multiplayer the noob combo received a nerf that you can't switch to your other weapon immediately after overcharging the plasma pistol.

The reliance on "cheap" tactics like the noob combo made legendary fairly stale at points.
