Honestly, I see HaloGAF's nuking as a good thing. It's happened before and if not now, it'd have happened again. The community at this point was getting toxic enough to where a solid chunk of the userbase went out of their way to get the thread locked up with weird Elite slash fic and shit because they know in the grand scheme of things the |OT| really hasn't done anything lately the other communities can't do better - and it hasn't in a long time. Again, it was getting too insular, and most people have already moved on. The usual peanut gallery have HGS2, certain folk still have Waypoint, Beyond, HBO, Facebook groups, etc. and it allows those communities to survive while keeping Halo threads on GAF about, well, actual Halo.
Same thing happened to NBA-GAF which had a similar level of post frequency, disregard for administration, etc. so it was inevitable at this point. Halo stuff on GAF stays on GAF, while HaloGAF stuff has already found homes from Slaent to Waypoint. The difference between now and last year's lock is that people actually know it's dead for real this time, meaning halogaffers are actually going to be required to seek out communities / community members they actually had an attachment to - some will return, and some won't. If anything, I think some type of clean slate "reboot" was a long time coming.

idk, wahrer. I'm wasn't on halogaf as much as most were, but it usually seemed on point in terms of just talking about Halo. A little insular, sure, but I thought that's why we have community threads.
So say I start playing h4 again sometime in the near future are there any branches of just OG Halo or is it all rock, paper, scissors bullshit?
For those of you that have played Halo 5, would you say it's going in a better direction than 4? Do you think it'll be worth getting a Xbox?
You'd be really better off playing Anniversary Slayer on Reach db, if you can tolerate the bloom.
Although Legendary Slayer is pretty great/active outside of garbage map design and sprint

It was better than it was in the past, for sure, but the fact that frequenters were willing to post so much garbage in the eleventh hour to get it nuked is pretty telling.

absolutely. they ditched loadouts, armor abilities, limited sprint, and based on the beta, even the maps are a big improvement. halo 5 beta was rad. since the beta they have made further improvements such as reducing top sprint speed, increasing base movement speed, weapon re-balancing, and nerfing the radar (a bit). i have little doubt halo 5 will be the best halo mp in ages, possibly ever.
additions such as clamber and thrusters for everyone feel like great additions too.
By JayEleven Go To PostFor those of you that have played Halo 5, would you say it's going in a better direction than 4? Do you think it'll be worth getting a Xbox? The Halo 5 beta was great. I am crossing my fingers it doesn't get mucked up upon release.
By Silky Go To PostSo what /Is/ Warzone? Because it just looks like Killing Floor mixed with Big Team Battle12v12 big team battle incorporating all parts of the Halo sandbox (weapons, Vehicles, Slaying, objectives, AI creeps), ill link to a video or something explaining what it is, i hate linking to halofollower but here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kuf0wLZXGFc

If that's how it went down that really sucks. oh well. we still have the Halo OT

I still think eliminating HaloGAF was bullshit though. You make some solid points and I can see the positives to a clean wipe but I never got what people meant by "insular". Any community that has been going for a while is going to be a bit hard to get into for somebody that is a bit unaware of in jokes and whatnot. Perhaps it was how out there we could get, but new people were almost always given a good welcome.
Whenever there was Halo news we would be talking about it and dry periods generally turned into us just dicking around.
Just my 2 cents I guess.

Very interesting !
By JayEleven Go To PostFor those of you that have played Halo 5, would you say it's going in a better direction than 4? Do you think it'll be worth getting a Xbox?Yes. Halo 5 seems to have been conceptualized, developed and then released by a completely different team of people, because for the most part, it was. Halo 4 had so many people coming in for a few weeks to months at a time just so they could add it to their resumes, then up and split. It ended up being so big that there was very little that was concrete in execution. Halo 5 has a team that have been working together for years now, and most of them are all really into what makes Halo so good.
Warzone looks like a ton of fun. I was super hyped about it at E3, but we also saw a very small portion of it. I've since become much more skeptical, and am looking forward to the real reveal of Warzone, the one where we see each variant of each weapon and vehicle.
By db Go To PostDon't get my hopes up dude.
They really did... In Arena. Halo 5's multiplayer looks amazingly fun, especially the arena component of it. Warzone is gonna be a bit more crazy, but if you enjoy Halo CE-Halo 3 multiplayer, you'll love Halo 5.
Kind of wish 343 went the Killing Floor route with Firefight, though. Layered FF maps, traders, specific classes for different weapon types.
Always felt Firefight was kind of a diluted Horde mode tho

Firefight actually predated Horde, so that makes sense (sort of). They've already confirmed multiple gametypes for Warzone (albeit not ones you can actually modify in Custom Games - chances are you'll just have a lobby where you can change map and gametype similar to the old Firefight lobbies) so it's possible we could see some form of retooling or a new map that has a single team up against the AI creeps and frequent bosses, etc.
I also really hope Skulls make it into Warzone.

While it's not a horde mode as much as Firefight was, it is going to be scratching damn near everyone's itch.

I love that Josh said that depending on community feedback, that they could potentially release a horde mode style gametype. It would be really cool if they made it so that it could be you and a huge team of 4-24 people just dominating some covenant and promethean forces.

Genius I know. Feel free to hit me up whenever :)
the viability of your community depends on you guys rounding up your crew, if you're interested in sticking around that is.
Between Footy and Halo the user base here seems like it's getting a nice boost. I hope that leads to more action in the other topics.

So, many of us are new here. Is there any way of knowing home many posts there are per page? Are there a limited number of pages before we have to start a new OT? Things like that would be appreciated :)
By Mix Go To PostSo, many of us are new here. Is there any way of knowing home many posts there are per page? Are there a limited number of pages before we have to start a new OT? Things like that would be appreciated :)- 50 posts per page standard, but I will be working on incorporating 100 PPG option.
- You can keep a thread going as long as you want, there are no concerns to performance. Although, we recommend the cutoff at 400 pages (20,000 posts) for the sake of keeping the OTs fresh and shifting it based on what is happening. Ultimately, it's up to the OT community.
I'm still not into the Cosmetic changes in Warzone. Like Do we really need an energy Bayonetta on the AR?
Also, I say we do every 400 pages. And I love how Mobile Friendly this site is. Kudos on that.

The stuff in Warzone is not cosmetic, Warzone's stuff does affect gameplay.
By Mix Go To PostNot cosmetic. 1 hit melee killsWell yeah. I mean that the Cosmetics actually affect gameplay. It cheapens the halo triangle when you can spawn with essentially an energy sword that can shoot bullets.
