Tanaka: "...anyone want to say a few words?"
Buck: "I figure if God can hear how scared I am, then so can everyone else."
I'm pretty hyped for how well Osiris plays off each other. So good.

Lighten up man. it was meant to lighthearted.
Shit, that was incredible. I think they've been really smart not showing much of Blue Team for two reasons. The first being that our first time with them will be fresh and a nice reunion for fans. Second, they get to pound into everyone who isn't on board that Fireteam Osiris is fucking awesome in their own right.

Did you not know what Mjolnir was before Halo?
Frickin' "Halo"?
The jillions of parallels with The Covenant and human religions (Catholicism, Doomsday cults, etc)?
Loki? Sif? Fenris? Gungnir?
The Flood? THE ARK!??! John 117? Tartarus? Chiron? Calypso?
Shit, the number 7 being literally everywhere?
These are all just off the top of my head. That you didn't notice any of them is kind of baffling, no offense.
Undoubtedly the mindless action was just a hook to get people interested in the game. We already know the themes present in the older Halos are there, and more thoughtful discussion and events occur later in the game.
Anyway, based Kazuma with his music.

You don't even need religious education perse to learn about the Greek or Norse pantheons and mythologies.
The intro cut scene introduces Osiris and makes any casual non Halo fan who decides to just try campaign interested through its action movie explosiveness, and then it's right into gameplay. If they like the gameplay, they will continue through the campaign and even if they didn't care about the story at first, it may grow on them as they play through it. By the end, they'll either think "it was fun to shoot stuff for a while I guess" or, more optimistically, "wow, I actually liked the story and I wasn't initially expecting to. I should put in a good word for this game next time I talk to my friends!"
Just my thoughts. Plenty of room in a 16 hour campaign for more story-focused cutscenes.

Would I like them to stay? Certainly, but history shows a bigger picture.
Well, if they buy Halo 5 on launch there's a week before CoD comes out where Halo 5 will have the best chance to win them over. Either way I still have a feeling Halo 5 won't lose nearly as many players on CoD release day as Halo 4 did.

The Biblical imagery is part of what makes Halo's story so engrossing. The combination of the overarching Biblically based story with Western mythology and literature makes for a great combination. Bungie engineered the story to appeal to people by having in elements from stories that have stood the test of time and furthermore served as a cornerstone of human development. The very existence of the forerunner appeals to the fundamental "Why are we here" question. That is part of what makes Halo and the Biblical narrative so appealing; it answers questions about the greater purpose of life. The original trilogy weaved these elements into the story in a great way. Where else can you find a sci fi setting with an overarching Biblical storyline that makes references and allusions to Dante, Greek and Norse Mythology, Roman History, and the modernist poetic movement?
The story post Halo 3 has largely been disappointing for me because it hasn't built upon the mystery and "mythology" of the forerunners by answering the why and how questions of the Halo universe in a way that is not as consistent with the material from which Bungie drew so heavily.
A rather simple comparison: In the original Star Wars movies part of what made the idea of the force compelling was the basic "Is there a higher power governing the universe" question that it served to answer. The original trilogy said it binds life together and can be used for good and evil etc. Very "religious" and mysteriously open ended. The mystery of the existence of God and the purpose of life was wrapped up neatly in the concept of the force. People got upset with the prequel films because the force got boiled down to some sort of science with midichlorians. Similarly the mystery of existence that accompanied the forerunner was left behind with the introduction of the Forerunner books and Halo 4.
Halo 5 intro looked really good. Still need 343 to fix MCC though.

Someone redub the trailer with the opening audio for GI Joe retaliation. Where Roadblock is leading the Assault on the terrorists.
By Ragnarok Flames Go To PostHalo 4 is The phantom menace… It makes so much sense. It actually has a lot of funny similarities.
Both the original Star Wars and Halo had these retro yet advanced and dated aesthetics and both Episode 1 and Halo 4 replaced them with technologically advanced and shiny aesthetics.
Both had big why questions about the nature of the universe that the sequels tried to boil down into some sort of science.
Both introduced this idea of a big prophecy with a "chosen one".
Lightsaber battles ditched the slow heavy fights in favor of speed. Halo 4 had sprint and armor abilities.
Episode 1 attempted to introduce political intrigue as did Halo 4 with the whole Halsey traitor theme. (Attempted is the operative word there)
Halo 4 spent too much time with infinity being stuck on the planet. Episode 1 spent too much time with the ship on stuck on the planet.
Both had new characters that quickly became annoying. Halo 4 introduced Palmer. Episode 1 introduced Jar Jar.
I could go on and on.

I could shed a tear reading these words from you.
I know I have seen a crap-load of people on GAF saying they loved the beta and want more. Hopefully Halo 5's apparently super compelling multiplayer and a much greater advertising push from MS can give the game more of a lasting impact. Halo 4's ad campaign came and went but with tons of free maps and new REQ content trickling in presumably every month, MS should advertise Halo 5's value as a package compared to CoD or Battlefront. It has a campaign that is two to three times longer than a standard run of the mill CoD campaign, big multiplayer vehicle action in Warzone, and well balanced arena multiplayer that is clearly hitting the spot for a lot of people. Topping it off are Forge and Custom Games, perfect when you and your friend are in the mood for more silly/experimental modes of play.
I really want Halo 5 to succeed. It has so, so much going for it that Halo 4 didn't and assuming it all works, it should be the complete first-person shooter entertainment package with bang for your buck unmatched by other shooters releasing in the same timeframe. Frank said it himself a few pages back that he felt 5 was the most complete Halo package since Halo 3, and for the sake of 343 and the future of the Halo franchise, I sure as hell hope he's right.
Metal Gear's opener is amazing. That is all. Going back to that until the salt subsides in this thread a bit. :p

If Halo 4 is the Phantom Menace of the Halo franchise, then I don't even know what to call Halo 3.
The Room, perhaps?
The Room, perhaps?
By jem Go To PostThat's a perfect way to put it, it was far too choreographed.Fake? Do you mean over the top action with a a dash of dramatization? Perhaps yes. Remember Locke kicked the living shit out of a fast moving banshee off course and destroyed it? Yeah expect more of this b'cuz that's what we're getting. That's Team Osiris's flashy style as being the new blood compared to Old School bad asses that Blue Team are to be.
I slightly take back my previous comments, it's not really the crazy acrobatics that bother me so much, it's the fact that the entire fight looked fake from start to finish.
Fair enough.
I absolutely love Halo and I'm very passionate about it too. I just find that the majority of issues are things I can easy let slide. For some reason this cutscene really bothers me though.
Shit will go down.
I watched it first twice on my phone. Now that I watched it in fullscreen on a 24 inch monitor it doesn't look as awkward anymore. I quite like it now.
I still feel like it looked too choreographed, but the animations don't look as whimsical as they did on a smaller screen. IDK if that makes sense.

By jem Go To PostI found the religion lines slightly odd.
]With the current decline in religion, it seems strange that it'd still be around in 540 years. Well, Christianity at least.
This isn't a complaint by the way, just something I wondered about.
What decline? Look to the world outside the West, and even nations like the US and Russia. (edit: Just saw your link, point still broadly stands.) Let alone the cultural impact of religion being vast, deep and incredibly powerful - religious iconography and religious language exist even where there is no faith. Anyway...
In other news, sexual video. Crazy action. Just hope you get to play scenes of the same scale...
Edit 2: it is OTT, but I fucking love it. Halo has always kicked ass for me because I feel like a ninja. Bring me more of that. That said, I hope Chief is more elder statesman, as Rag said ;)

The natural evolution is of course Halo 6 becomes one huge ass bollywood dance.

I was actually referring to any biblical references, and now that I think about it The Flood and the Ark is fucking obvious. John 117 is also clearly a reference to the apostle although I don't know the specifics of 117...

The others I don't know, I've never once read more than a few pages of Bible. We never really learnt specifics about Christianity itself in History lessons, more so its effect on society which I think is far more interesting.
I have very little interest in the topic honestly...

Argh man some of the comments on forums about the introduction cinematic are so cringe worthy and just reek of drive by fake "concern"
It gets better everytime I watch it. That's a kick-ass way to start the game. I imagine this as a type of primer, with a lengthy scene later, potentially at the end of the level.
I liked it a lot. I am still more excited to play with Blue team but having Buck in Osiris helps a lot.
With Halo 3 and 4 not really introducing any new characters which I really like (except for Lasky), I'm glad they're introducing big teams ala Noble 6 in Reach.
Would be very good for the future of the game, imagine we stop seeing some characters in Halo 6 and years down the line 7 is announced and we see characters similar to Buck who we get very excited for!
Anyone know if Jun is still alive?

Y'know Noble 6 isn't a team, that's just the name of the protagonist in Reach. The team itself is called Noble Team.
I think that introducing this many characters to the game at once is a bold move, but it can work if done correctly. We don't know much about the other members of Fireteam Osiris yet but at the very least, they have cool-looking armor that matches what we know about them and they certainly seemed to act the part in the trailer. Looking forward to this Halo campaign a lot more than I was expecting to just a few months ago.

Fan. Fuckin. Tactic. Thus is top tier stealth. In a desert lol.
I'm going to play that intro again because my word... Amazing. These cutscenes do not disappoint.
Says something about the quality of the game beyond the intro if you'd rather replay the beginning than actually continue through the main game :B
It's like a frickin half hour of an intro, at least. It's ridiculous.....ly engaging. Only Kojima could get away with this level of ambition lol. I'd seen parts of it before when MGSV was first revealed but they left a lot out and the parts they left out had me on edge.
I massively prefer the way the games have represented the Spartans over Nylund's idea.
I don't like these ridiculously badass Spartans which are capable of destroying massive groups of covenant with ease.
In the games the Chief is a total badass who can take down multiple Scarabs on his own, yet a group of elites are still going to pose a serious challenge.
