Just brilliant. It's such a confident take on Halo. I love how they're tying in all the different plot threads. Locke, Tanaka, Vale, Buck... Lasky and Palmer returning... for the casual fan, the mention of Halsey being kidnapped ties it in very neatly to the end of Spartan Ops. And all of that without tons of exposition, just straight to the point, air-punchingly good Halo!

That's just the NuWraith.
Yeah, that's just the cool new-design Wraith for Halo 5. The old one was bulky, the new one is more in line with the new contoured Needler and Carbine designs. Besides...
Real wraiths have curves.
Real wraiths have curves.
Muh bad. I'm well aware of the new Wraith design, but the 7 thrusters on it and its parallel nature to the ground made me think otherwise.

-Locke is smug and robotic and is afraid of using his face to convey emotion.

-Spartans have no weight and leap through dense snow like a gazelle.
-pretty CGI, yo
-music is gewd stawff
-ground pound still looks really stupid lol

They're Spartans.
I know Spartans are technically meant to be capable of all that crazy stuff but damn, I really don't like that style of over the top action.
It seemed completely implausible to me which sucks as I've always considered Halo to be a fairly grounded series. That cutscene was just silly...
There's aka going to be a massive disconnect between that cutscene and the actual gameplay. We'll go from sprinting down mountains at breakneck speeds to casually jogging around, elites will suddenly actually pose a threat and will take more than a few AR rounds to take down, bullets will actually be fired at you instead of every direction but you...
Damn, it fucking sucks to be salty whilst everyone else is excited, how the hell do you manage this on a daily basis Rag?
Man, I'm gunna have to re-listen to Hunt the Truth to get re-hyped.

I get that they are supposed to be jet tanks but they smash through boulders but barely sink into the snow. Goofy stupid stuff.
It looked really unnatural and odd. Looked like a choreographed ballerina dance instead of a crazy battle. Heck, they keep smashing snow with their fist with all their weight and maintain momentum...lol

Sure, it was way more cinematic than gameplay, but there was sprinting, thruster pack, stabilizers, Ground Pound, Spartan Charge.

Plus, you know, no one's gonna give much attention to a squad of four soldiers when your entire military presence on Kamchata is attempting to storm a Forerunner military site that is incredibly hostile.

That's a perfect way to put it, it was far too choreographed.
I slightly take back my previous comments, it's not really the crazy acrobatics that bother me so much, it's the fact that the entire fight looked fake from start to finish.

Just look at him and listen. He's so robotic and stoic faced like he he's afraid to show any emotion. All of his lines are campy sounding one liners.
Everything we have seen him in he acts like that... nightfall, Halo 2 anniversary, campaign demo, and now this.
It makes me cringe.

I also liked some of the subtle little character interactions in this, like Locke / Buck's back-and-forth with the drinks, but then that little smile they shared when they were trading off helmets. I don't know if Tanaka is actually religious, mind you, but it's not uncommon for Spartans - and I liked that Buck was the one to answer her, considering he'd dealt with Mickey for a while prior.

I found the religion lines slightly odd.
With the current decline in religion, it seems strange that it'd still be around in 540 years. Well, Christianity at least.
This isn't a complaint by the way, just something I wondered about.

MY favorite part of the trailer is the dialogue in flight (1:51 in the video). I know it's just a role check but there's a lot going on that is great on the second time around watching.
Locke calls for a COM check and Tanaka shoulder charges through a Banshee's wing (even get the shield recharge), followed by "COM's fine Locke." Then we get a slow pan from left to right, highlighting each character as they check in. Really great stuff.
You can even see each characters personality by the way they fly.
I mean Locke is flying with such focus.

Everything I've read indicates that the number of people who identify as unaffiliated with religion has been increasing fairly rapidly.

Religion's been in Halo since the beginning, though. While it's most obvious in its scary dogmatic Covenant stuff, Halo's done a really good job of not demonizing religion in its entirety and showing it has plenty of healthy outlets - the Covenant just happened to use religion as means to an end in order to veil decades of political corruption. Several of the Spartan-IIs practice Zen Buddhism, Marines (Johnson included) have mentioned God frequently, Mickey's a space trucker and presumably a Space Christian, and Johnson's grandmother practiced some fictional form of Protestantism. Chances are over the centuries it just altered itself accordingly as science marched on and became more generally inclusive (considering Halo more or less takes place in a post-racial society, at least as far as humans go), and you also have to consider that colonies that were populated predominantly by a single nation likely had religious resurgences based on national identity expanding, as well. Religion can also be a means of solace for people and help with having a sense of community, and, well - considering Tanaka grew up having to survive nuclear winter on her home planet as a result of it being glassed - it makes sense, to some extent.
EDIT: Also, "being religious" doesn't require you to be some bible-thumping, blindly pious lunatic. It's completely normal to practice religion in mild ways without having it dominate your life.
By jem Go To PostReally?Yeah, I agree with you. In 500 years with all the fancy science and technology, you'd think they'd know the truth. Oh wait, no I didn't mean to say that. Everybody shut up before this gets out of hand!

I didn't see it as religious, more of a cultural thing. You don't have to believe in a god to joke about such things, and we know from other fiction that Christianity, Islam, and Buddhism are still around at this time (Buddhism, particularly Zen, is particularly popular among AI).

Part of what really sucked me into the lore of Halo at first were it's play with Biblical and other religious themes. Obviously that draw deepened for many reasons, but that was a pretty major one. It had depth and meaning and history. It didn't feel shallow or half-baked. There was a lot of time spent on crafting something that felt real. For a fictional universe, it felt very much like something that could be our own future, in how humanity had reached the stars but hadn't abandoned its roots.
Halo having religious undertones and commentary is to be expected. No problem with that. The entire concept is based in religious metaphor, commentary, and allegory. Let's be honest. The dialogue and characters are designed to resonate with the target audience, in this case, mostly the US (sorry rest of the world, mates). Whether that would be an accurate view of humanity 500 years in the future is highly unlikely, but it's not a huge deal.
What I've found to be a much bigger sin (to use a religious term) is the whole 'egghead' bullshit. I'm hoping 343 has pulled back on this incredibly unlikely attitude for an advanced society since H4->K5's ridiculousness. Appealing to your audience's ~70% (ish) religious affiliation is somewhat acceptable to create likable characters. Appealing to the lowest common denominator with the anti-science, "fuck the eggheads," "who needs engineers?" bullshit is entirely not needed. In a society that has cured cancer, has interstellar travel, colonizes planets, and fights aliens, the idea that scientists are a joke to the military of the time is just stupid. However, Palmer's continued existence in the canon gives me little...wait for it...faith.
