One of my favorites. So dark, but so riveting.

That really should have been the finale for the game, set the nuke then try to fly the fuck out of there.
Also whoever did the voice work for the Didact absolutely nailed it.
Part of why I hope we run into the UrD again is so that voice actor has more to do. Such a great voice.
friend just texted that arena is SMG starts, confirm?
and does this mean they plan on hitting it with the nerf stick???

It's only obtuse if you just don't pay attention.
Also, nothing in H4 comes even close to being as bad as "to war".

Nah I do kind of agree with Tawp. I think Halo 4 had a great story if the extended universe is taken into account but I believe everything could have been better conveyed to the audience in its writing, even the Cortana-Chief parts to a light degree. To me though it's completely forgivable because if anything that's a result of the studio being brand new etc.
Halo 4 intro cg scene that ends with the line, "do not underestimate him" and the outro cutscene that is VO'd by the Didact are the best parts of Halo 4. Man, after that introcutscene I was ready to have my socks knocked off.
Man, just thinking about various gamemodes we can play in Halo 5 has me excited. Not even the complex custom ones either, just the simple ones.
Like Swords on Truth, or Snipers on Regret, or Hydras on ANYTHING.
I'm happy that Gears is coming out so soon (along with the Black Ops 3 Beta) but ultimately I feel like those games are just "what I'll be playing until the game I'm dying to play comes out".

yeah, the rep system has been shit since day one on the 360. the fact they just now decided to do something about it is kinda sad/funny.

I never understood the complaints that the story wasn't explained in game. What exactly (critical piece of story info) wasn't explained in game and explained through the EU?
Honestly the Halo 4 story is way more understandable and explicit than all other Halo stories. If anything when I first played CE:A and 3 I literally had no fucking idea what was going on. Halo 4 I got the general gist.
It wasn't till MCC that I went back and re-played the games did I understand CE:A and 3 (maybe because I was used to Halo by then so understood how the story was told).

Bolded: that's an entirely different complaint. Some folks felt slighted that they would have had to read the Forerunner Trilogy to get background on the Forerunners and the Didact. That's fair, to a point, but to understand Halo 4's story all you need to do is just play the game, pay attention to the cutscenes/dialogue, and don't skip the terminals.
Halo 3 was a victim of Halo 2's sudden ending and cut content. The game finds its purpose once you're actually on the road to Voi, and when the Flood shows up. The first handful of sections felt very much like things/ideas that were from the previous title.

I wish that was the case, I've seen so many comments (especially on GAF) that Halo 4's story is not understandable because everything is in the EU. Such a poor myth to be spread around.
Almost as shit as that post someone made about why Halo 4 has a bad story (as if I can't do the same with any great film or game story).

*plays the game the way 90% of players play it*
*hasn't read the books*
*hasn't built a time machine to read Silentium prior to Halo 4's release*
*is confused about the story*
*wonders why we're fighting Covenant, all the Spartans look different, etc.*
*gets mocked for expressing legitimate concern on SLAENT*
I mean, I'm a fervent lore whore and I was still lost at roughly the start of Reclaimer. I mean yeah, I gleaned the basics from the Librarian moment, but even then majority of it (like Chief becoming a Jedi) was totally out of left field. By the time I "squared off" against the Didact (or tried to, anyway) in the final cutscene I had totally lost track of the plot. Come the Didact monologue I was just like "WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON ANYMORE"
I am of the opinion that there was way too much tucked away in the terminals. I did enjoy watching them on YouTube all at once and they did help me understand Halo 4 better. However, I would have rather that information been imparted to the player via in game sequences and or dialogue.
By FollowTheWind Go To PostWhere are they? When I played the game they had to be viewed on a website. Did that change?

I cannot understand what is so difficult here. The base plot is so simple, you fall into a forerunner planet where the a different group of the covenants (as she specified on the ship) are attacking you. You work your way through some very forerunner like buildings and fighting prometheans with Human like faces under their masks. Till you awaken the didact (a forerunner with a clear technological advancement as they should have).
You start to follow him encountering UNSC Infinity on the way. You get to a space station where you receive an "immunising" DNA from The Librarian (a dead forerunner, not much needed to know). Didact composes the entire space station but you survive. You eventually follow his ship and get on board whilst he is composing Earth (one of the best levels in Halo history). You plant a bomb with the help of Cortana and he falls into the weird hole thing.
Hit the nuke, Cortana saves you. Ship is destroyed, Cortana is gone. UNSC finds you and gets you on board. End.
What exactly was confusing here? Yes there are a lot of unanswered stories in the main game, but how is that any different from previous Halo's?
By J-Twelve Go To PostWhen I played the game they had to be viewed on a website. Did that change?
I mean you clicked to view and it takes you to the app (don't remember exactly the original but thats how it also is in MCC).
Like I said, they weren't in the game when I played it. In 2012. When it shipped the first time. I should have waited another two years for them to put the complete story in the game, I guess. I mean, waited for them to put the game in a separate app outside the game (which is pretty much the same as it was in 2012).
-edit-
Yeah, you're right, in 2012 the terminals could be unlocked in-game but you had to go to waypoint to view them. Not too terribly different from the mcc in 2014 but when you unlock them in-game it takes you directly to the Halo Channel to watch them.
I think it came down to disc space and memory- offloading the videos to a cloud source freed up resources for the rest of the game. And the 360 didn't have the ability to run two apps at once like the Xbone so it couldn't have kicked us to waypoint and back like it does with the Halo Channel. A small hurdle, but it was stll available to everyone and as immediate as they wanted it.
I'd assume Halo 5 will do the same with its termimals.

I think to cover some basic plot beats a fraction of cutscenes should be mandatory, even if that just means waiting 5-6 seconds before you can skip it. Maybe just for your first playthrough of that level, anyway.
