By derpface123 Go To Postokay mr. literal, I don't need an explanation, but rather I would appreciate an explanation because I really cannot fathom why someone would like an enemy type that is annoying to fight, doesn't have good AI like elites do, and doesn't react to you hurting them the way you'd expect them to.I just threw up in my mouth a little.
Use real sauce, dammit.

the post I just made that you quoted was pretty saucy :P
is this better?
Flood are just different. Some of their forms in H3 are tremendously annoying though.
I wouldn't mind seeing them get a redesign for H6. They can still have elements that are super aggressive and try to overwhelm you with numbers (ala Thralls), and big gross looking beasts shooting at you from behind the FLOOD of weaker enemies.

somebody's a little defensive.
Why do you think that the Covenant are more fun to fight? What's better about them than the Flood? Maybe I enjoy the relentlessness of the Flood, it's almost as though they were designed to behave as though they don't fear you. Maybe their unpredictability in uncertain situations is more fun that the pack mentality that is the Covenant Elite+jackals+grunts.
And the post that you made wasn't "saucy" it was loud and obnoxious and it honestly felt like it came from a 14 year old who was just called a name. Get over yourself

if it seems like I'm defensive it's because it really boggles my mind why anyone would like the Flood. this probably comes from the fact that while I don't usually get mad at videogames, the Cortana level in Halo 3 and also some Flood sequences in Halo 2 are some of the only times I have genuinely wanted to throw my controller at a wall and watch it shatter to pieces. I don't enjoy enemies that instantly kill you out of nowhere and the Flood have always been the greatest perpetrators of those instakill deaths that, while possible to see coming, in the midst of a fight they can sneak up on you and instantly reset you to last checkpoint and that really peeves me
currently I am playing through Halo CEA in the MCC and I have had to take breaks twice due to extremely poor checkpoints in the beginning of the game. I have beaten the hunter sequence in the 3rd level about three or four times now, and then suddenly died instantly to something in the following hallway and had to repeat all of Cortana's dialogue, and then wait for the hunters to come out, and then kill them, and then wait for the door to open... I guess I didn't have to take breaks, but nothing kills my excitement and motivation to play a singleplayer videogame than being forced to replay the same section over and over.
Okay, so, on topic: the Flood.
What they do well is force you to focus on your movement in a way most Covenant fights do not, with the possible exception of Hunters, and that's in a very different way (circling and worrying about angles rather than the long, fighting retreat of dealing with Flood). What they did wrong in Halo 3 was a) the entire level Cortana taking place in a series of anuses and b) trying to improve their variety willy-nilly with the "pure" strains, most of which were just obnoxious. Bring back Flood Classic, and I think it could work; teaming hordes of infection forms backed up by formidable Infected. All melee or small arms only. Set it in the right level, with room to maneuver backwards and forwards but not much laterally, and I'd call that a success.

I get it, the flood is here and there for me as an enemy type too, but the whole Ragu thing and all that just urked me.

being forced to eat something with Ragu infuriates me almost as much as fighting the Flood

the mr. literal thing is an instance of something that would have been clearly intended to be silly and not inflammatory if this was verbal communication. I did not mean for it to irk you.

Yeah, I really don't like the Flood in Halo 3.
I have no problem with any of them in Halo 2 (in fact I find them fun to kill), but every time I play Cortana it just riles me up and I just want to break my goddamn controller.

7, of many more, reasons why the Flood is great as an enemy type:
1) relentless
2) they require quick thinking and constant ammo counting
3) they basically just rush you so it forces you to make use of the level to gain advantages through height or clever use of cover/objects.
4) some forms can be revived, which adds to the challenge.
5) Oh yes. Challenge. They are challenging!
6) the amount of available shotgun ammo increases significantly when the Flood is present.
7) popping popcorn is fun.

I suppose these are true but it just feels cheap to praise something with such basic AI. Bungie did not work hard at programming the Flood in order to achieve those 7 criteria, it just comes with the territory of making an enemy that runs towards you and does little else.

Disgusting. I didn't really get much further than the first page of that thread.
On another note, I noticed that the Prophet's Bane looked a bit different here (and personally, I find it to be awesome).
I was a bit apprehensive due to the fact that it's from a board game which has art from multiple installments. But according to Frankie, it's pretty much more or less identical to how the Prophet's Bane is going to look like in the game. Which makes sense, seeing as they toned down the glare on the standard energy sword as well.
With the amount of posts some of you spend bitching about GAF, it's no surprise HaloGAF got locked up.

Bungie made AI for the Flood that just runs towards you. But this isn't lazy design, this is all intended to make them relentless! (because they don't react to being punched) It forces you to use the environment! (to abuse the fact that they just run straight towards you and jump to your platform if you aren't high enough to be out of their jump range). It's challenging! (because they just throw shit-tons of them at you) and not only that, it forces you to be strategic and count your ammo (once again, because they throw tons of them at you and you constantly need to scavenge ammo and weapons just to have the means to kill all of them).
The Flood have so much potential with various new types that 343 could introduce and give them unique abilities, like Flood that splits into 2 pieces, Flood that can walk on walls, Flood that can fly (Flood drones? :P ), but people seem to love the original lazily-designed Flood so much that making them more interesting to fight doesn't even matter because they can just use the same sort of AI for new Flood and people will gobble it up.
I don't enjoy fighting them in Halo 1, 2, or 3.
except for shotguns and popcorns, those never get old. curse you Wesley, now I can't say I completely despise the Flood…
