By Wesleyshark Go To PostI've always viewed those books as through the eyes of ONI.
By NotTheBatman Go To PostHmmmm, I thought that was kinda the point of the whole thing, ONI being massive hypocrits and showing that humanity isn't the cardboard cut out good guys as portrayed in the games, shades of grey type thing……Maybe not though. I can be very wrong - just ask the wife……
I get it. At some point though, there should have been repercussions or something directed towards them from somewhere on high. But Halsey was just squared away while the other two looked down their noses at her and stayed their course. It was unsatisfying to read, especially when Parangosky was way worse a person. Halsey at least built Spartan II's to win, when Ackerson built Spartan III's to die, and Parangosky signed off on that.
The Traviss novels had a few cool bits in them (female Skirmisher shipmistress, mother of four, stole Midship and hopes to unite the various Jackal populations near the homeworld to form a united navy), but they were definitely a little too pro-ONI. I think Hunt the Truth was deliberately hinting that the Traviss stuff was ONI propaganda, though.

343 was responsible for Halo CE Anniversary, Halo 4, and MCC. 2 of 3 worked to an acceptable level at launch.

HCEA was so good. Especially the terminals!
Halo 4 was a solid release.
MCC launched with broken MP, and is still on the mend (but miles better these days). The campaigns play and look amazing in HD and at 60fps they feel fantastic. Not defending how poorly it stumbled out of the gate, but at some point, you just need to let it go and move on.

Yeah, H2A came out way better than CEA. CEA went a little too detail-happy, though I am at least glad they were willing to make things a bit more warm and colorful. Most of the corridors on the ring were dark to show off the Warthog's headlights, anyways.

I'm working on beating all 4 of the Halos included in the MCC. Finished H2A and 4 so far. I'm 2 levels into CEA but it's kinda hard to go back to it after playing newer Halos with less heavy jumping and tighter controls.
H3A gonna be dope.
For real though, I imagine an H3A would be when they really go all out on a new forge mode.

I really think (assuming they still want to acknowledge the MCC's existence by then) that 343i could just do a major patch to the MCC to include the H3A updates.
I sure hope Mark V is in Halo 5, it's da bes. Hopefully a little less plastic toy looking compared to Halo 4's Mark V, too.

Hopefully a little less plastic toy looking compared to Halo 4's Mark V, too.The one thing I've never liked with the Mk V (or any other armor that does this, really) is having oddly placed pouches. In reality I'm kinda partial against any pouches (come on, it's the 26th century, and you're telling me they haven't come up with any better looking/more protective form of suit container than a fabric pouch?), but belly/chest pouches are the worst, IMO.
bring back halo 3 styled EVA!
also, is ricochet in halo: mcc anywhere? its such a fantastic game type and i think i could bring some of my real life gaming friends back into halo through it. it better be in 5.

Maybe in the H4 playlist too.The action sack one has a bit of twist to it where the ball explodes if you hold onto it for too long. It almost never gets voted for in H2A though. Ricochet is more fun when you have better mobility options so I'm looking forward to giving it a try in H5., if it is a game mode.

I'll be pretty pissed if Extraction and Ricochet are not in the H5 gametypes.
What i'm hoping, at least in terms of HCS gametypes:
TS, Oddball, CTF, Extraction, KOTH, Strongholds, Ricochet, Breakout (with tweaks) , Bomb
By belushy Go To PostI'll be pretty pissed if Extraction and Ricochet are not in the H5 gametypes.Man, I just hope there's a Day 1 Objective playlist.
Let's see how Halo 5's playerbase fares after Call of Duty Black Ops 3 comes out before we start adding back in gamemodes from the game that lost all its players in 2 months.

I think that's one of my biggest worries, especially on the back of Halo 4, where a lot of multiplayer features and standards were left out with no explanation or by mistake.

By Ragnarok Flames Go To PostInfinity as a whole was a problem.Did you take issue with the entire ship, or just that they tried to incorporate canon with multiplayer, or just that they made Infinity [gametype] gametypes?
By Captain Friendo Go To PostUnless we're counting infinity slayer as part of the problem
To be fair I've tried to forget Infinity Slayer ever existed.
By Captain Friendo Go To PostSorry then mate, but I don't think it's appropriate to shift the blame entirely onto 343 either when Traviss wrote the book and chose what the characters thought and did. If anything, it's a blame that should be shared. When in the living hell did I say to shift all of the blame to 343i?
By belushy Go To PostTo be fair I've tried to forget Infinity Slayer ever existed.Honestly, I didn't have a hate for Infinity Slayer/War Games the same way most others did.
I loved that they tied MP into canon.
I thought a lot of the additions/changes in Infinity gametypes were fun, and would be great to be options to have in Custom Games (loadouts, ordnance drops, etc.).
My problem with the Infinity options were that they weren't options. They were pushed as the replacement for the normal options, and upset a lot of the typical things we've come to want out of Halo (weapon on map, equal starts, etc.).
I think they've found a great way of pushing Halo forward by having two different mindsets. They want to update the whole of Halo in some areas (like adding the Spartan Abilities), which I'm fine with. They compliment Halo game play. Then they have the changes that are must more drastic that they add only to a very separate MP experience, and otherwise leave the more beloved Arena-style MP mostly alone.
In some alternate universe, there is a Ricochet only Halo game that has the appeal of Rocket League. I think if you took very basic maps like the Breakout maps, made the ball throwing faster, and made the goal area much smaller, you'd have a hell of a gametype on your hands. But having to share its rules with the rest of the game, it comes off lacking, but I see the potential with Halo 5's spartan abilities.
This is totally unrelated to Halo but you know what really grinds my gears? People on NeoGAF who have the Remember Iwata ribbon... on top of their suggestive anime avatars.
Like yeah I'm really emotional about the passing of one of the greatest members of the industry but I'm not emotional enough to change my avatar to something tasteful before adding the ribbon to it. This way, I can pay respects AND still have emergency masturbation material!
It's just weird.

Yeah I think if it is structured a bit like Uplink from COD AW it has a bit of potential.
You know I'm going back and reading that thread now and man I loved seeing Frankie come in and basically calling a poster out asking when they lied. Then putting his money where his mouth is. Gonna be interesting to see the outcome when Halo 5 releases. Frankie has balls no doubt. lol

Firstly, when did we lie to you before? We may have disappointed, misstated, cut a feature or communicated poorly, but when did we LIE?
Secondly, if there are no large scale encounters, more open areas or frankly much bigger explorable spaces than before, then you can point a mod to this post and I can get the ban a liar like me so richly deserves.

I really hope ricochet can shine in h5, one of my favorite game modes.
We almost always get to play quickrochet in action sack, its pretty highly voted... and then commence the pooping on the enemy team.
Looking forward to the new game mode. I got a feeling Halo is gonna be huge this year. Black Ops III looks kinda stale so we'll see what the numbers are come November.
Gamers are always quick to call devs liars or whatever. Them developing a game that didn't live up to certain expectations you personally hold doesn't mean they lied. Ugh. Learn to argue the actual merits of the game without insulting the developers.

Exactly. Fans want more info but fail to realize that getting that peak under the hood means that sometimes things talked about will not come to light and/or will be changed. I mentioned this elsewhere but with online we've become so self-centered. It's all about me and getting everything how I want it and if it isn't then you're either a liar or a piece of shit for not giving me what I want or disagreeing with me. It's made discussing things such a pain in the ass anymore because nobody will debate. It's all just attacking each other because well obviously I'm right and you're a piece of shit for disagreeing.
Now that said if anyone disagrees with me you're a piece of shit and should fuck off. j/k

bububu lazy devs!!!
I don't like Halo 4, everyone knows this, I even call the game shitty sometimes (when I should be more specific tbh, the multiplayer is what i'm getting at but people at least grant me some context there thankfully) but I just don't get insulting the developers personally. Disagreeing with game philosophy or development decisions doesn't have to veer into personal attacks towards the people making the game, even if you're profoundly confused about why they did shit you consider stupid and detrimental.
