To Pimp a Butterfly
I love the cover so much. It's like he wants to piss off the Midwest and the South.
I don't understand why the white house lawn would piss off the south or the midwest?
actual question:
What's wrong with Macklemore?
i know that the whole "only rapper with something to say" thing is insulting,
and a good junk of his success comes from white privilege but that's not really his fault or is it?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdVRlM-kSx8&spfreload=10
but i still thought that his CD was decent as a pop album, it's fun. (nothing special or anything).
sincerely,
a white person.

I'm not clearly paid to promote it...not that I'd be against that sort of thing.
By MorisI didn't think it was officially released by TDE, idk judging from other places, hot 97 is just posting leaked music.By psychintellectBy MorisHot 97 posted it dawg.you wanna stoop to hot97's level?

idk.
That female back up singer is a little annoying, and it sound like that metalic-bwwooonnnng sound effect from Nas Is Coming (22 second mark).
Overall P. good, that bass line is so good.

Man, for all the fucking hype, I was expecting a lot more from King Kunta. I'm Kendrick stan and all, but it's just aight.
A decent funky bop track. The tweets and talk about it though we're way over the top.

There's nothing wrong with Macklemore if you love his music. I'm annoyed with the hype and hyberbole surrounding that his fans make. Exploiting the LGBTQ movement for his own personal benefit is admirable because someone has to pander on some Daylyt shit. However, most acts go about proving themselves on others through tours and putting in work. It seems like this group got on and avoided that grind and has no intention of putting in the work across coasts. It's shocking considering the content of most their records. There's legit substance there but you wouldn't know it because of the pandering.

eh?
yeah this shit is good. A lot of people won't feel it tho and that will be fair but I like it a lot so far (some massive misteps tho and sometimes the beats eat him alive)
Just saw him and Schoolboy Q perform last night at a shitty festival downtown. It was a good show, but he didn't play anything from the new album. Having just finished listening to it, I can see why.
He... definitely had creative control on this. There's way too much to process on one listen so I can't give a fair critique, but it really feels like someone should have told it to reign it in at certain points. Like I have the vague impression of having just listened to a jazz album. There is a lot of great stuff that gets hampered by over-produced moments or weird vocal instincts. Anyways people getting hyped for another GKMC are going to be probably historically disappointed.

yea, there's a lot going on.
Reminds me of Shabazz Palaces' last album where I knew it was good but couldn't say how good until some more listens.

Your man dropped a spotty album Moris....tracks like For Free are cringeworthy, while How Much A Dollar Cost is excellent.
GKMC is still the reigning champ of the TDE camp

I thought Lese Majesty was pretty great off the bat. I hope To Pimp a Butterfly grows on me to that level, but I'd say Shabazz Palaces definitely had a more consistent follow up.
By Storm ChamberTetsuo and Youth is betterAgreed.
keep frontin though
This is Kendrick's best project though.

It feels uneven, but I don't hesitate at all when saying its better than Tetsuo.
By knux-futureMortal Man tho
oh you mean the song that could of came of Overly Dedicated but it has the 8 minute poem/ fake conversation with tupac interlude? I don't know man.... I mean is it really any more deep than a audio version of the Tupac hologram from coachella?
I mean maybe its because I don't put Tupac on a pedestal or just that I've never went through a diehard west coast hip hop period in my life but while I find half the songs are really good the other half are blah and a few are just bad (just like OD was). Blacker the Berry is the best song on the whole album.
