I just don't like him bringing it up the court, but I actually really like him as a playmaker, he has found open shooters pretty regularly in that role
I missed most of the game due to grocery shopping, but it sounds like randle played better and Russell over compensated?
By Fenderputty Go To PostI missed most of the game due to grocery shopping, but it sounds like randle played better and Russell over compensated?Best game either one of them has played so far, Russ still missed a couple easy jumpers.

Russell looks better too. some awesome passes, but his shots aren't going down.

Randle was awful defensively whenever I watched Arkansas play them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRcrpc59m-8

Why would you play basketball instead of baseball? Get paged 3 times as much to stand around in a field all summer? Sign me up for that.
Allen Crabbe hurt. Looked like he landed on Towns foot and rolled his ankle, but he was grabbing at the back of his ankle, in a ton of pain, and had to be carried out. Hope it's not an Achilles tear :/
Bill Oram ✔@billoramsteve nash has done wonders for clarkson last year,
Jordan Clarkson told me he is planning on future workouts with Steve Nash. He believes D'Angelo Russell will be included as well.
let's see what he can do with dLo
By fertygo Go To Postdem d'angelo stat lmaoHe looked pretty good today, got to spots he wanted and made some really nice passes. Much less forceful with his game.
By masud Go To PostJeremy Tyler has been dominating summer league games for like the last 5 years lol.
Oldest seeming 24 year old in the NBA currently.

2 seasons max?

i really hope sooner than that.

Just remember Russell's +/- Stat rating
Highest percentage of Top Ten picks to be a star, but highest to be a bust also.

I think my biggest summer league takeaway is that Towns's passing is ridiculous. When the Wolves are running out Rubio, Bjelica and Towns together, it's gonna be radical. Wiggins is going to get great looks.
Russell has had the roughest summer league of any of the top 10 picks (Maybe with the exception of Winslow) but he has shown enough potential for me not to be shaking in my boots.
Yesterday he used this amazing fake lunge move in the PnR, when his defender went under the screen he made it seem like he was going to dart for the basket with his left with an elongated stride but quickly cut to his right behind the screen.

Russell looks mediocre some nights and awful others. His TO's just reinforce that he's not an elite level PG. Which is fine, I never bought the Magic comparisons. His court vision is good but his execution is bad.
His biggest problem is he can't drive past dudes that came off grocery bagging duty at Ralphs two weeks ago. There's a dude who's name is literally as close to Papangus as you could get, and Russell couldn't murder him 1 on 1. That's some shit.
His best skills (surprisingly) all summer league have been his rebounding which is top tier for a PG and his defense which is really good too.
Russel with Exum's first step would be a monster in 3 years.

Is it weird that I think Porzingis looked the most NBA-ready of the top 5 during the SL? I'm definitely not saying he'll have the best NBA career, but he looks like the has the fewest holes in his game that need to be filled. The only thing he seemed to lack was aggressiveness, but he didn't play scared. He just played like a guy who wasn't trying to do too much, which shows maturity (other than the bonehead block at the end of the game against the Sixers). Okafor and Towns definitely show some promise too, but the former really needs to improve his conditioning and jump strength, while the latter needs to improve his efficiency. I honestly haven't seen enough of Hezonja to comment a lot about him, but the fact that I haven't heard much about him either way means that he probably hasn't made much of an impression just yet.

Vision is easily the most important part when assessing future capability. Execution is taught and learned. Vision isn't.
Sometimes you say really weird stuff.

yeah, my top 5 rookies at summer league so far (still some games left) based on eye test and production:
1. Stanley Johnson
2. Myles Turner
3. Jahlil Okafor/KAT (tie)
4. Jerian Grant
5. Bobby Portis
Emmanuel Mudiay, Justin Anderson, Terry Rozier, and WCS all tied at 6. Mudiay, Anderson, and Rozier still have a chance to move into the top 5. Rozier has surprised me and even though his defense will probably translate to regular season play, I think he's gonna have a tough time adjusting getting buckets against real NBA athletes.

Damn, Rookies have to prove their long term NBA worth by Summer League now?
did nash leave on bad terms or something
why isn't he working with the dozens of pg's that have been through phx of late

There are guys like Nash and Rubio that have the vision and the playmaking ability from day one. My only comment is that considering the Magic hype, Russell's not near that tier. Nash and Rubio could also get past their man off the dribble consistently, Russell can't.
Also, I would argue that vision with a million TO's means you're seeing the open guy, but a second late or early. Or you're seeing the open guy but not the defender. Or you're seeing the open guy but your pass isn't on target. Essentially your vision is worthless if you can't execute the play and your cockiness is leading to turnovers - call it the Brett Favre syndrome. Good PG's don't force passes to every guy that seems open because they're great at gaging timing and risk. Russell may end up great at it, especially if Nash coaches him. Just don't think he's going to be a hyper elite pure PG
And no, the most important thing in a PG is decision making. Even if you cant do the difficult home run plays but keep your turnovers down to a minimum because you're making solid decisions - that's better than a dude trying to be Jason Williams and having routine 5 TO games.
