Same Sex marriage legalized across U.S.A

WASHINGTON — In a long-sought victory for the gay rights movement, the Supreme Court ruled on Friday that the Constitution guarantees a nationwide right to same-sex marriage.
The decision, the culmination of decades of litigation and activism, came against the backdrop of fast-moving changes in public opinion, with polls indicating that most Americans now approve of same-sex marriage.
As in earlier civil rights cases, the Supreme Court had moved cautiously and methodically, laying careful judicial groundwork for a transformative decision.
Wonderful.
But I am still highly disappointed it was a 5-4 vote. Bunch of shitheads.
Thomas you soggy piece of shit.

I"m more upset at Roberts. I thought it was 6-3 with he obvious assholes dissenting. But his dissent wasn't salty. Almost seemed like he was glad he didn't have to be the swing vote because he would have if it needed it.
First FIFA and now this

Murica is surely the greatest nation in the world, when you ignore the existence of Lebron James.

Needs to shore up his base after the Healthcare thing.
I love how we retain judges for life under some naive pretense they'll be less "politically" motivated. What a farce.

Unfair to Roberts. For one, Roberts had always been economically more liberal than most think. Even before joining the Supreme Court. He also usually sides with big business. His aca rulings are consistent with this. He also tries to avoid rocking the boat. Both these cases exemplify that.
I've personally found Roberts way more consistent than someone like scalia who molds his interpretation to his desired outcome. I disagree with Roberts a lot but he isn't a hack like scalia Aliso.
Thomas is also consistent just fucking nuts.

The people in the rural areas around here are so sad right now it is pretty glorious. Apparently the county was ready for it and have already started issuing licenses which is neat.
Is anyone else using today as national "comfort your fellow American of the opposite sex" day? I'm cleaning up right now scavenging all of the hurt Jesus loving lasses.
LOL at all of the conservative hurt. Watch discrimination against gays increase one hundred fold after this decision.

Anti-Gay County Clerks Have Already Begun Denying Marriage Licenses
It begins.
Hours after the Supreme Court's decision Friday mandating marriage equality throughout the United States, conservative county clerks have already launched the first rounds of opposition.
Leading the pack was Denton County, Texas, clerk Juli Luke. Those seeking marriage licenses from Luke on Friday were instead greeted by a sign taped on the door to her office:
"I took an oath of office to uphold the laws of Texas and the United States. It appears this decision now places our great state in a position where our state law contradicts federal law. Based on this new conflict, I will be deferring to my legal counsel, District Attorney Paul Johnson, for guidance."
This supreme court decision is a prime example of why not matter who get the democratic nom (hillary) we vote for them. I like Bernie too, but too many libs aren't thinking long game when they say they'll abstain or write in a candidate rather than vote for Hillary.
Had McCain become president two different judges would be on the bench and this would have gone 6-3 the wrong way with healthcare blowing up yesterday too. If it wasn't blown up the first time. Assuming McCain even set something up lol

literally could have put America back for a decade+
Wes Allen, the probate judge in charge of issuing marriage licenses when he’s not quoting scripture on Twitter, did not explain whether he merely wants to prevent gay people from marrying or whether his is a more general issue with love and happiness and cake.http://gawker.com/alabama-county-stops-issuing-marriage-licenses-all-toge-1714220263The Supreme Court’s decision, Judge Allen said, had not voided a provision of Alabama law that says “marriage licenses may be issued by the judges of probate” in the state.
“The word ‘may’ provides probate judges with the option of whether or not to engage in the practice of issuing marriage licenses,” Judge Allen said, ‘and I have chosen not to perform that function.”

8 years of Hillary might be enough time to stack the bench with one or two more judges. Maybe something could be done about Citizen United.
Either way ... the Judicial branch is a HUGE reason to vote and people don't think of it often enough.

There's been a discussion going on in PoiliGAF and I believe the language of the ruling supposes that marriage is an inherent right for everyone and that states can't limit that right. I'm not super clear as I'm not a lawyer, but I don't think this is a winning route, legally speaking.
Politically I think it's just as bad. There's been threats by state governors to stop marrying ANYONE. Someone has to be a spiteful fuck to sacrifice they're dreams and desire to marry simply to take it away from another. Plus I think a lot of people who are against gay marriage are kinda wishy washy on it. Not true die hard fire and brimstone nutters. I would think a level of selfishness among their constituents would prevent this from being a good tact. +

And people only think supremeCourt . But they only take around 80-90 cases. The lower courts take every case. And 8 years of any demand guarantees a generation of Democrat appointed judges in the entire federal judicial system.
Plus 6 liberals on the Supreme Court.
