My squats have entirely stalled out, 80KG is just sitting too heavy on me. I've tried different set combinations, dropping down, etc, but I just never feel comfortable.
I'm getting through the workout but it never feels good enough for me to jump up to a higher weight

i forgot how much i enjoy full court basketball as cardio. my overall game suffers compared to halfcourt but just forcing myself to get out on the break every time there's an opportunity feels so good.
maybe take a break from squats? im currently on one building up my core and doing more isolation leg work to have a better base to work from.

I walk a fair amount to and from work every day so the sore legs are a real pain, but it's just frustrating really

Getting to a point where my grip strength is impeding my deadlifts. the weight doesn't feel like an issue for the full movement, but my hands are fucking killing.
I figure I'll grab some wraps, but I don't know if thatsjust kicking the can down the road and should instead focus on upping my grip strength

There's a guy at my gym like that. He was a massive alchoholic during his youth, wrecked marriage etc. Hit the gym, outlifts almost everyone and he's 69 years old. Man found god in the gym.
Had to quit doing legs 3 days a week. Shame too cause I was just starting to enjoy leg day. The wear and tear just caught up with my basketball and soccer leagues on top of that.

Reached 90 kgs lads!
After a year of going to a gym and keeping a real schedule for once I've gained about 15 kgs.
Still at 15% fat but I might drop in some cardio twice a week to see if that helps.

Get a bike and cycle instead of gym cardio. So much better for your state of mind and conditioning.
By Disimpacted Go To PostGet a bike and cycle instead of gym cardio. So much better for your state of mind and conditioning.I do about 15 kms a day already for transportation reasons. Should I do more?

Haha seems like you got it covered. Can't do cardio at the gym because it bores the shit out of me, closest i get is kettlebell sets.

Well there is a HiiT crosstrainer at mine which I do like but after 10 mins I'm usually dead.
Kettlebells is something I haven't tried a lot.
switched to maybe 75% of max weight and doubled volume on leg day
20 mins of bike and 10 mins of stairmaster for cardio
gonna try that for a couple weeks and hopefully i can hit the ground running for fall soccer

Been playing ball for a while once a week for hour and a half, has been helpful in getting cardio out of the way. Gym time can just do straight weights

By Gaby Go To PostStarted Crossfit this summer. Feeling really good about it. Allowed me to reorient my focus on back, abs and shoulders. I realized I was too focused on isolation exercices, chest, legs, arms…I'm not too big on crossfit because of its focus on high rep low form. I only really started seeing gains when I did the heavy compound lifts so deads, squats, bench. Incorporating deads made the biggest difference for me at least.

It's crazy looking back in the day when my only aim was to be able to curl 20lbs
its always wild looking back on old pics of yourself from before you started lifting
folks swore i photoshopped my head on a 12 year old boy's body when they saw my befores.
what's your height/weight?

In those pics when I'm lean at 5'7" 155lbs. The one before I started lifting I was 117lbs.
My windows profile picture(like the one when I log into my computer) is a picture from when I first started working out 2 years ago. I should change it, but I like seeing all the progress. And it's funny because at the time I was feeling good about myself because I lost all the weight. Now I look at photos from a year ago or two years ago, and I think I look like shit
Year from now I'll think I looked like shit here.

Because you always see you self you don't notice the changes. It's great that you lost weight. It's so hard for people to take that first step but you did it. Don't ever forget that m8👍🏽

yeah always keep the old pics. i always say i wish i took more pics along the way.
ah were kinda similar built then. im 5'4" 160-165 depending on the day. if i had any sort of eating discipline i'd get lean just to see what that looked like. i'll probably hold there for a while. i got used to playing soccer at it and its great for basketball.
this is the last 2.5 years of just going at it hard. 28 now.
21, never lifted a weight, probably 125 lbs here. did some light lifting after but i had no idea what i was doing. did get up to 135ish and at least looked like i'd done something
i saw Mat Fraser is listed at 5'7" 195 which absolutely blows my mind. dude is a brick
my main gym partner is your height/weight exactly and he said he'd be happy to just get to 175.

Man, that's hella impressive, Lunatic. How many years did it take you to get there?
Data, keep up the good work too bro.
I'm two years away from being two years away I think, but the past 2 years has definitely been a good start for me. My main regret is not starting sooner and waiting till my 30s to start.
ffffffff
Edit: good job too, domino.

I'm gonna get this diet thing right and spend more time sprinting after my workouts. I've put it off for too long. I'd look so much better if I took my food even remotely seriously. I'm at around 200 right now, want to get to 180-185
By domino Go To Postyeah always keep the old pics. i always say i wish i took more pics along the way.Wow bredrin such a massive difference. You really don't even look like the same person. I honestly tried so hard to put on weight past 155 and I just couldn't. My body type just does not put on mass and judging by your pictures you are the same way. I would definitely need testosterone shots to get bigger. Being 32 now I get injured so easy. Tore my hammy just playing beer league baseball. After that for a at least 7 months it was painful to deadlift. I hate getting old.

By Adam Go To PostMan, that's hella impressive, Lunatic.Well I was on and off for a while (5years) but if I was to say when I was serious and really wanted to get fit I would say 1.5yr to 2yrs. This is mostly because I had become experienced and knew how to lift combined with what works for me.

Tearing something is my big fear. I’m starting to pick up little nicks here and there. And those “day after pains” of basketball are more like 2-3 days after now.

Incorporating deads made the biggest difference for me at least.Yeah I get that and that's a problem for the people who only do the timed challenges (I wish those had fewer burpees and fewer pullups but with proper form). But I think any decent crossfit gym will teach you the rest. I do 2 crossfits wods a week, 2 hours of bodyweight training, 2 hours of heavy lifting. Also, I'm more interested in skills and cardio than body transformation at that point, losing body fat is the only change I'd go for, been hanging at around 14-15%.
By Lunatic Go To PostI hate getting old.32 is not that old, you make it sound like you're 50. Chronic pain is common for people who exercise, but it'll improve how you age.
Amen to that, recovery seems to take longer as you get older as well but I also stretch more than I did ten years ago so that helps to maintain a certain level and probably have made me look more leaner as i don't focus on lifting as much in the gym anymore.
Also, it probably helps that I'm doing a yoga teacher instructor course atm but otherwise the foam roller and massage ball is my friend lol.
Still aiming for those splits before me 40th so there's that to aim for as well ;)

One thing I've done as I hit my 30s is I absolutely won't go to the gym if I didn't sleep well the night before. Recipe to get hurt.
wtf you guys are ripped
i squatted for the first time in months today, just went for 60kg to keep it chill but my knees were struggling after the 3rd set... is this what getting old feels like

My body comp is weird because like I'm not ripped or shredded. I'm just kind of thicker than average. When I work out and get a pump, my muscles look a little bigger but I don't get veiny at all. Which is good for me because I don't want to be shredded or veiny or bodybuilder-like, but I still have the pool of fat around my love handles. And yet I want to get bigger. But just a little bigger and I definitley don't want to be Power Lifter built.
I'm basically physically active of varying degrees for 50 hours a week. I've counted calories, and I legit don't think I ever go over my maintenance calories. It's got to be all the candy that I admittedly can't help myself around just pooling at my waist and adding onto the remnants from when I was overweight. Really gotta quit eating that shit. I don't even think shit like fried foods is doing it, I think it's so much sugar all at once.

Dump the sugars and start doing some kind of HIiT in addition to all you do now and the fat will start to come off.
Hill sprints + burpees + improved diet will have you right
