By SUPER YARAK Go To Posti pay £40, but i get unlimited access, all classes, swimming, sauna, jacuzzi and access to 6 different gyms within a 5 mile radius, plus nationwide franchises.Did that yesterday. Made a mistake. My adductors feel like I squashed melons between my legs.
Wish it was 24 hours because i'd go for a second session right now.
The swimming, sauna and jacuzzi sounds awesome. Swimming wouldn't be possible with the limited area they've got here and the price point won't allow that either.
It's a franchise here and I can use it both here at home and in my uni town, but I rather use the one here. 5 minutes with my bike and I'm there.
Audience is quite mixed which I like. Especially the older folks who always greet you and stuff like that. Surely you've got those posers around, but they're not really harming everything and my gf had a good chuckle when there was also one within the women changing room (she called her She-Hulk and she was posing and making pictures of herself in front of the mirror).
Not many things that I really dislike. The changing rooms got no proper locks, they are locked with your card but you can still open them and they'll only beep. So I don't really take anything valuable with me.

Local council thing. They sold half their stakes to Everyone Active and did a big refurb of the local swimming pools/gyms in the area. I have access to every Everyone Active gym in the country, which would be great if i still travelled for work.

The header picture is my regular gym. It's broad enough, lots of cardio equipment, benches etc. Weights are out of the picture but they go all the way up to 50kg, plus modular bars if you need more.

best thing about the place is that it's got a golf course, farmland footpaths and bridleways, so if i cycle to the gym and feel like a bit of a ride afterwards, i've got mad 10+ mile routes to take. Can't wait for Spring again

Been going to a free class and it's been awesome. We're a bunch of misfits at wildly varying fitness levels, but everybody is trying their hardest to get more fit. A couple of people in the class have lost over 100 pounds, I have lost over 50. It's an extremely intense class if you push yourself, and it's a good intro class if you just need that. Fantastic group.
The room they hold this class in is in an old meat packing warehouse and it's actually kind of awesome. Haha. I'm on the far right in the green shoes.

i cant do more than 15 minutes of treadmill or in gym cardio in general before being bored to tears lately
might just stop trying and just leave the gym for lifting and save cardio for outdoor sports or running, neither of which are consistently available in winter
might just stop trying and just leave the gym for lifting and save cardio for outdoor sports or running, neither of which are consistently available in winter
Have you tried loosing your balance and falling off the treadmill? I did that last week. I wouldn't recommend it.
we get youtube/spotify/web-browser/TV on our cardio equipment so i usually queue up a live gig to listen to whilst i'm doing my cardio ting. Otherwise i'll do a few hours of cycling across the county.
I'm of the opinion that gym cardio is a massive waste of time, and you should just superset and/or HIIT all the things and call it good. For example, yesterday I did deadlift/pull up/shrugs as a superset. If that doesn't get you winded a treadmill sure as heck won't do it either. Then again you might not want to listen to me since I usually hike for that kind of cardio separately.
Gym cardio is a bit of a waste unless you really know what you're doing with heart rates and know how to target zones and maintain them. I would do what Christberg said and focus on strength and high intensity in a gym setting, for sure.
Interesting stuff. My only concern is hogging the equipment on supersets. You're essentially using two pieces of equipment at once. Consistently walking away from a squat rack concerns me.
Most squat racks have built in pull-up bars, so you just use that and a set of dumbbells. That way you don't equipment hog and you don't have to leave the rack. Ours also have raised platforms for deadlift and 2 bars. Works very well, gives you options to stay there like
Squat/Step Back Lunge/Calf Raise
Deadlift/Overhead Press(you could use dumbbells here)/Hanging Leg Raise
Heck, you could even superset squat and deadlift with that setup but that's just asking for trouble. I generally don't recommend doing a superset on compound lifts and you definitely want to rotate muscle groups, so no bench press/push ups for example.
Even if your gym's a little less fancy than mine there are still options there. You could do standing vertical jumps, burpees, push ups etc and you can bring your own resistance bands and do various exercises using the rack with those.
Absolute worst case, just cut your rest periods to the time required to change plates only and drop the weight some until you get used to it.
One of the biggest beginner mistakes I made was just doing one exercise at a time and screwing around on my phone in between, no timer. Was a huge waste of time, seriously blunts the effectiveness of your workout. Always best to go there, get in, get out and be there to put in work.

People are also getting used to the idea of others doing supersets as they're pretty common now. If you mention that you are, they'll give you your time and space to get through it. I've been asked to wait and I'm cool with it.
One word of caution though: If you're just beginning working out this is a bad idea. Make sure you have a solid set of fundamental knowledge about how to perform all the lifts before you try. If you're rushing through things with bad form the above is a serious injury just begging to happen. Even then, body weight and light dumbbells are pretty safe for this and will more or less mirror your average group training stuff.

In between sets of your lifting workouts just do step ups on the bench, go at a good enough pace to keep your heart rate up.
You could also do burpees if you have the room, that takes care of cardio.

any of you guys use a stepper? Completely fucking destroyed me over 20 minutes of mixed lunges, crossover steps and heel raises.
Did 27k today, from about 10k in i feel my shoe cutting into my foot. I have experienced this a bit with this particular shoe on my right side, so usually only do less than 15k with it. Managed to complete the run and get home. Take my sock off and there is the nastiest blister I have ever seen filled with blood.
Has anyone ever had a blood blister? Was gonna drain it myself, but reading online makes it sound like a bad idea because of the potential for a bloodstream infection.
Not sure if I should just leave it as it is and stop running till it hardens, or just go to a doctor and get one to drain it.

i'd ask a doctor about it before i did anything.

Finally going to count my calories, so I can finally lose these love handles. Back's feeling a little better since I pulled a muscle, so i'm probably going back to the gym Tuesday morning.

ditched the Ghost and went back to the C4. the Ghost was too random w/ the boost and side effects. idk that shit just didnt agree w/ me.
trying to get back up to a consistent, well puttogether 163 by mid-march when the soccer season picks back up. hovering around 157 most days. had to drop 10 through the fall season (bottomed out at 148 in January) to play like i was used to but i think i can play at 163 without the drawbacks this time since im planning for it.

Thanks man.
I'm trying to get fitter for sure but my main (superficial lol) goal is to get a better physique, and get stronger too.
I started lifting at the end of 2017, but before that I went to the gym like once every couple months and played tennis once every couple months.
Eating healthier and getting a regular routine was the hardest part. Now I feel flabby if I don't lift 4-6 times a week. Pretty sure I'm at the end of my noobie gains, but I have a long way to go.

you should try a dedicated program now that you've built up a good base and habits. once i got that part down (i'm naturally lazy to the point where its a running joke among my friends) the rest of took care of itself. keep up the work!
I'm a little late on the congrats, but well done, Adam! That's a lot of hard work paying off. Has to feel great.
Here's my progress update. I still have a lot of work I want to do, but I've come a long way over the winter months.

Only time I have ever felt sick was when i was doing a half marathon and drank a bit too much gatorade at once. I then realised just to swish around in my mouth and spit most out.
I've reached March which is predictably the month at which I feel chubbiest after the winter season. Essentially posting in here to remind myself to get my shit in gear again.
im not sure i can handle running, it's hard to fit along side lifting. my knees, ankles, lower back, and hips (hip flexor?) constantly feel strained as fuck.
