do you play clinkz? he's quite similar. you need to be more careful with positioning, but the extra burst is nice. I like his build diversity too, orchid/deso/helm are all good. just gotta get used to keeping your health/damage topped up with ult.

Lost 6 in a row, 2 of which because of abandoners.
I'm finding that since doing my ranking placement, I've become very patchy. Like, I'll win 3 in a row, then lose 3, where I used to win 1, lose 1 etc

That feeling when you lose 7 in a row, then win a good match. With an accidental AoE Bounty Hunter kill thrown in :D
Omni is much, much harder to use than he seems.
5 or so heroes left in my challenge, probably won't do it again. Might make a couple of pools of heroes I like, covering different roles for the team, and pick from them at random. That way I get more variety than Slark/Legion, without Randoming and getting stuck with heroes who don't work in the setup, or that I don't like using.

Was watching a bit of the major and noticed how bad the production was compared to the CS:GO ones and was very surprised. Then I see there is drama going on with some host that gets fired mid tournament. Now Gabe from Valve posts this on reddit:
wtf is going on in dota lol
Two things:
1) James. We've had issues with James at previous events. Some Valve people lobbied to bring him back for Shanghai, feeling that he deserved another chance. That was a mistake. James is an ass, and we won't be working with him again.
2) As long as we're firing people, we are also firing the production company that we've been working with on the Shanghai Major. They will be replaced, and we hope to get this turned around before the main event.
As always, I can be reached at gaben@valvesoftware.com.

By Vlatko Go To Postwtf is going on in dota lol
Dota has been drama central for 2 days.
James is asked to host the shanghai major. A tournament with a US$ 3,000,000 prize pool and a massive (probably as big) production budget).
James is known to be a very... crass host. Just who he is. No problem telling a dirty story, dropping a phrase he shouldn't, but in general it's all in good jest. Typically about people he's very close to and he generally doesn't manage to seriously offend anyone.
The shanghai major turns into an absolute shit show from a production point of view. Serious delays, random in game bugs, bad referee communication, horrible transitions, mic volumes ridiculously low, turned off when they should be on, turned on when they should be off, replays that would stay up regardless of in game action. The english production team even managed to kill the power to the entire studio wiping out all 3 streams for 90 minutes.
James is actually the perfect host for this situation. He's very good at keeping the panel engaged and talking about things that aren't necessarily relevant, but entertaining and dota related. He's not very technically knowledgeable about the game, but great at this. He basically turned it into more of a TNT panel than a NBA TV panel.
During one particular delay he trolled the living shit out of eternal envy at the start of one segment, and that got some of the other panellists to be more critical of others and stuff. But that wasn't their problem. It was the use of the phrase "bottom bitch". (i.e. a bottom during gay sex). It was honestly a fleeting moment in a (another) 90 minute delay. No one really paid it much mind. The segment it self was genuinely funny and entertaining.
Gabe fired him for that bottom bitch thing though.
James announced it (it was going to be obvious), reddit pulled out pitch forks, demanded an explanation.
Bonnie, a dota2 streamer who isn't a professional, was asked to go to the major to be a translator. Ended up being the director for the english stream. Her details on the background of why it was such a shitfest. Interesting read. Basically a huge cluster fuck.
Above is what Gabe Newell posted on reddit as his "explanation". Seriously.
So James wrote up a reply with his thoughts on the topic.
I'm no fan of 2gd/james. He's crass and could easily be considered offensive to a casual viewer who didn't know more about who he was/is to be making some of the statements he does. He takes things down to the gutter too often/casually. But he really was keeping people sane with the shitfest the major was/is.
Atleast we got a good fwosh parody song though.
How do you sell sets?
Got a Black Nihility set for Night Stalker that seems to be worth £17+, but when I go into the market, it lists all the items seperately

Shanghai Major makes me happy Valve doesn't give a shit about CS aside from occasionally adding new skins and operations to the game.

Think its glitched anyway, when I view the set through the game, it says its on the market for £17. Then I look at it on my inventory, and I can only seem to sell each item, and they add up to about £1.
Been getting some dodgy stuff in game as well.
-Click indicator disappeared for a couple of days
-When searching for a hero in the team picking phase, the same 5 heroes would show, with the one I searched for in amongst them. For example, I search for Slark and it shows me Axe, Lifestealer, Meepo, Slark and Zeus.
- Certain heroes and items have '(Modified)' next to them in the action log. For example 'Slark killed Pudge(Modified)'

Haha, my bad I thought it blocked all damage. The perils of randoming.
Man EG look super good in this major, absolutely destroyed Fnatic just now. They have a really nice route to the finals as well with Secret then either Liquid or MVP after.
Man, I fucking hate playing on the weekend.
Played three games today and all three have ended early because of an abandon.

Just played a PA match where I ended up with Battle Fury, Mjolnir (for the lols), Desolator and Sange&Yasha
Had enough gold to upgrade by Helm to Satanic as well. Ended up just tearing through the entire team twice in a row.

Yoooo, this MVP-OG game 1 is fucking awesome. 27-28 at 34 minutes. A shame these are my two favorite teams and one of them will be going home after this series is over. :(
I will continue to root for the winner and Wings because I love early, often, and awesome team-fights.

Don't watch much Dota but the first three matches I caught this tournament were fantastic.
End of EG vs DC I check the roster and notice that DC had a dude from Macedonia! Pulling for them in the finals now.

That game 3 of EG v DC was so tense, loved it. Been some fantastic matches this year, great tournament.
I think Wings is a very strong team with fantastic individual players, but when the tournament was done the commentators were just blown away by how good they were. I feel like they're actually not that great, and that both OG and EG are better teams. What Wings really excel at is putting other teams out of their element and forcing them to keep up with their chaotic pace, but when the enemy keeps their composure and don't fall into Wings' traps, they start to panic themselves and fall apart. You can see that during team fights, Shadow and Blink are just all over the place, throwing caution to the wind and hoping their supports don't die before the enemies do. Once Innocence goes down, they really start to crumble.
Once again, PPD's stubborn drafting hurt EG's chances against a resilient opponent. He always tries to go two levels above the enemy and ends up with an awkward draft that puts Sumail at a disadvantage and relies too much on Fear and Universe to run the game. I really wish EG didn't lose to Wings in the upper bracket, so the western team wasn't the one going in mentally fatigued. I really didn't want to see a Chinese team win – I vastly prefer someone I'm familiar with through Twitch streaming/social media.
Plus, Zai is god-tier. Dude deserves all the treasures in the world.

By Mastadon Go To PostNow for the real fun - post TI shuffle! 😁i'm not even sure it's going to be so vicious.
Nah, Wings was great because they could execute their gameplan with nearly any team comp. You can't ban them out when they can play nearly any style well with a huge variety of champions. They had the most unique heroes picked with 40 and just ran very diverse lineups.
That they could then execute at a high level put them over the top. They were the best team this tourney.

Yeah exactly. EG won TI last year because PPD knew that CDEC didn't play Leshrac and so didn't need to ban him out or first pick him. There isn't any obvious weakness like that with Wings.
Unless they pick Pudge.
Prepare yourself for DC.Arteezy

Wings players are insanely skilled at playing a huge array of heroes in a massive amount of ways. The reason it seems random, and they can put you in a difficult spot while drafting is because their players hero pools are massive, but they don't lose anything by playing ANY hero. Is the Bat mid or off? is the naga safe, off, or support. Is that a farming void or off void. Support, mid, or safe mirana?
They managed to out team fight MVP.
Their supports were nuts. The amount of saves from oracle, or multiple hero earth splitters. The multi hero stomps. Void had to be picked or banned against them.
Like, they won TI from the upper bracket. And convincingly. I don't know how you can say any of that.
They were the team of the tournament, and OG were far off the pace. Even they say they weren't going well as a team. So.....
EG weren't playing better. They had a few games where they played well. But wings had them covered. I mean they 2-0'd them. And PPD is one of the all time great drafters. Give this EG a few months and they'll be back as top tier.
Zai is insanely great though. He had so many absurd plays.
Wings are a level above any other team. They've shown this with their results over the last few months. Don't forget they beat out OG 3-1 in the summit 5. The diversity of their drafts make them too difficult to prepare for. DC just kept picking potm/timbersaw, completely ran out of ideas, it made the finals a little underwhelming tbh. Also from a strategic standpoint, who do you try to shut down? They're unlike the popular western teams like OG & EG, in that there's no obvious target (like sumail or miracle).
It's also wrong to say Wings win by getting better teams to fall into their rhythm (a la mvp), they've won plenty of games from behind.
Oh and mental fatigue from one series isn't really a thing. There are plenty of arguments to be made that DC were at an advantage going into the final.
hope Zai replaces Bulba at Secret

The best team doesn't always win. TI6 was all about the momentum. Good teams crashed out against lesser teams when they tilted. Look at how DC beat Ehome. DC are a great team, but Ehome are a tier above.
I'm not disagreeing that Wings are a good team, or that they aren't versatile. But just being versatile doesn't make you impossible to draft against. Sometimes the versatility can play against you, like game one against DC. In fact I think they should have lost game 4, but Moo and DC just couldn't keep their cool and made bad, disorganized plays as they got dragged into Wings' rhythm which they just couldn't keep up with.
Wings were the best team at this tournament, but they aren't the best team. That's how I feel. I don't even think they're better than Ehome or Liquid.

lol I'm no secret fanboy. I am partial to EE as he was in my HON clan back in the day but that's it. If I had a fangay team it'd be Alliance or OG because I followed Akke and Loda as far back as WC3 Dota pre-6.50, and n0tail and Moonmeander are proper Hontrash. I mostly cheer for EG because USA USA USA. My favorite Chinese team is Ehome because I played a lot of games with Ice3 in early beta.
I think Wings are deserving winners. I would put them in a top 4, I just wouldn't put them at No 1. But they were the team that performed the best at TI6, so they won.

I guess I agree, but it doesn't feel like there's actually been a top team for a while
dota is reaching its skill ceiling
it's kinda fun seeing upsets, but tnc/fnatic/mvp/dc doing so well just means more games without those oh shit moments. it doesn't mean these teams aren't as good, it's just that as dota matures, strategy is becoming much more important that skill.
I'm just salty about envy going out so early

I was surprised that didn't happen. When universe left i thought for sure Zai will go play with secret. He and puppey get a long. He and Arteezy are BFF's. And Zai has always complained about not being able to play a core role.
Naw. Wings are a better team than Ehome. Ehome has some issues and were very one trick this tourney. And they had no fall back. I'll be surprised if that team stay together from the apparent unrest and arguments that were going on.
I love iceiceice doe. Great personality for the scene. And it's great to see him as the carry. He's been playing really well.
There's lots of arguments against OG too. They have, in the last 3 months, been relying very heavily on miracle to bail them out of a lot of games. And tilting makes you a lesser team. If the other team can put you on tilt.... then they did that by playing better.
And in a tournament as long as TI, where you play everyone. And it's not just down to a "bad day"... yeah.... a lot of the randomness isn't there. This isn't about draw like a pure double elim. Or a bad day where you can get knocked out in the group stage. If you were the best team you win this tournament. There's a LOT of chances to recover from bad days.
Variety can work against you. Particularly if you fall into the trap of purposefully trying to be diverse. Has been the downfall of many. But Wings had a core set of picks and play styles. Though yeah, they had games like pudge techies.. ooof.
