Lets all see if VG can break out of their funk. If Secret decide to treat ESL as something other than professional scrims, and if EG can bomb out of another tournament.
I don't even have a compendium, I'm in it for the pubstomps.
You gonna be available to play tonight giri?

I'll update the OP more shortly, add in the steam group and stuff. Hopefully there's enough slaent'ers for some group action.
I wanted to get into this over the summer.
I'm hesitant because I'm not sure I want to get sucked down the Moba vortex again like I did with LoL.
but the art direction and developer support for this game is so damn good.

I played about 30 hours of Dota 2 before falling back into a CS:GO craze but the Reborn beta has me excited to go back to it for a bit. I still have a lot to learn but I was having fun just choosing a random hero and experimenting.
i kinda want to get into the game but i don't want to burden people with my noobiness unless i'm guaranteed to be teamed with Russians.
lol, I'm happy to team with people cause I suck A LOT. And I've played way too much of this game.
Happy to teach people the basics, even in a few games versus bots, to get you started.
But really, you can't burden others as long as you're actually trying. I know I've never minded losing as long as people aren't dicks and try. Because everyone has so much to learn in the game. And everyone is put into a skill bracket for a reason.

I've been playing this shit since the early days of the WC3 mod when it was run by Guinsoo and AllPick wasn't even a thing; heroes were faction locked.

Add me.

Note that these days I mostly play Ability Draft because I love fukkery but I'm down for Random Draft (and All Pick if we must).

By giririsss Go To PostMan, Tobi is such a horrible commentator.I like Tobi. Or I used to at least. Haven't really kept up, too busy bodying fools.
he falls in love with his own opinion too often.
I wish there was a way to make my own hero pool, from which it chooses a random hero in All Pick
There are quite a few heroes I'm comfortable using, but I always go back to one of about 5 of them when I can't decide

Random Draft is my favorite nonfukkery mode.
Single Draft is also acceptable, but carries a much higher chance of getting nothing you like. It can be a good way to learn new heroes.
By Forever Go To PostI like Tobi. Or I used to at least. Haven't really kept up, too busy bodying fools. He's objectively terrible at his job.
He can't carry on a conversation with out losing track of his thoughts.
He gets an idea in his head and harps on about it for way too long.
His interactions with a colour commentator are painful. If he gets an answer that doesn't match his thought pattern he backs the colour guy into a corner. Swear blaze? was just about to tell him to fuck off.
His self aggrandizement is grating. And constant.
His sense of place & timing isn't good either.
I know many think he's good, but I wonder how many really pay attention. I think some of it for a lot of people is nostalgia because he's been doing it for a long time.

But there's a reason the best casting pair in the game is probably LD & Synd.
Godz is pretty good, and zyori has picked up a lot of their good habbits. I like Capitalist too.
Fucking livid
40 minutes into a game, 2 of their's quit. 15 minutes later, 3 of my own team quit when we just need one push to win the match.
Absolute timewasting cunts, the lot of them.

Just played a game where they got megas at 25 minutes.
From there we held out until the 1 hour mark. Gotta be a record. In the end they beat us with bkbs and ratdota.

Question: are Ember Spirit or Earth Spirit still used at all in the current meta? They were two of my favorites to play and watch when I stopped playing months ago.

Tried to get into this with 2 games earlier. Teams filled with Russians who wouldn't hold their lanes and kept stealing mid from the carry who called it. Fucking trash rounds

cheers mate will do.
played with the bro just now as lion. A guy quit the game 2 mins in on our team so we were 4v5, but decided to stay and see it out to get the experience. Ended up at 3/4/6 with team kills standing at 21-22 at the end of the loss.
Was a good game, though. My item choice was shit but i'm learning. My biggest issues with the game is the narrow FOV and no wasd camera movement. Latter is easily fixed with bindings, though. so much to track at the same time, especially in team battles where everything goes fucking mental and you can't make shit out

Huh missed this thread.
TI has been great so far, although I hope the meta develops past lesh/gyro/tusk a bit more for the main event. Secret look really comfortable but a bit complacent at times (Fnatic loss especially). Still fancy them to take the whole thing though.
@Facism - Lion is a great support for a new player. He fits in to any team pretty much, has fun active skills and is great at ganking with finger. Item choices are pretty standard with Lion - blink is your core item to set up hexes and stuns. Come play with me and Hitch for a while to get the basics down, we're still shit enough that the level won't be too high for you.
Just don't auto attack the creeps like he does ¬¬

Fuck off bruv. Sick of having my support called into question when you either die at the rune in 30 seconds, die to a tower in 2 minutes after diving, or end up with the worst kill record on the team when you're the hard carry
¬¬
@Facism, are you playing Reborn or the normal game? Reborn is having severe disconnection issues. Not that the normal game doesn't suffer from that already, but its much worse in Reborn, especially outside of peak hours from what I've played for some reason.
I don't think I've used the keyboard for camera controls once in 2 years of playing. Need my fingers free for abilities, you never know when you'll need 'em :P
After a few games using the mouse should become second nature anyway. Edge of screen for fast movement, wheel-drag to keep up with your hero, click on mini-map for awareness. Your best move is to make sure you have an intuitive binding for hero autocentre (its called something like that anyway), then if you lose track of where your hero is you just double tap that key and the camera will centre on you.
Can you disable the zoom feature? Somehow in Reborn I keep zooming in by accident, and its completely useless to go any further in than the default angle as far as I can tell.
By Mastadon Go To PostHuh missed this thread.Secret and EG have looked strongest to me, they seem a level above everyone else right now. C9, LGD, and VG all have their moments, but I don't know if it's enough to win more than one game. And even C9 dominate two games in a row, they'll still find a way to throw.

Agree with Lesh/Gyro. So many first pick gyros, feels like lazy drafting and is making this pretty stale. Teams seem to be adapting though, I'm not sure it'll be as much of a problem later on. Especially Gyro.

You still need your team to re-act. Most don't.

EG haven't looked that great, though they've been out drafting people.
Secret have out drafted, stomped, then fucked around in game 2 and lost. That's a very Puppey thing, to use the group stage to experiment.
C9 look lost. Not as lost as VG, but they seem really unstable. I'm wondering if they don't disband after TI. I know Zai has said that if secret wins, he's going to retire to finish university. BDN back to secret?
My takeaway from TI this year is how close the teams really look from top to bottom. Much closer than in the past.
You'll always see a "stale" meta for the groupstage anyway. So the gyro/lesh picking isn't unreasonable. Most teams don't trying to really shake stuff up until the play offs. And with so many games to play you don't want to give anything away early, and you don't want to be having to switch between a ton of different styles.
For anyone who missed out on a lot of games during wild card/group stage of TI5, here's a great set of highlight videos: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8t66OTumdeYG-Lu95R2bzhXdoyYENOXr
The plays are real boyz
They still need be reminded that team map vision is more important than their own item progression though. :-/

Ok. Then you're probably at the point where you need to know this: The biggest myth in Dota is that supports should sacrifice ALL game. And it's something a lot of people believe at all levels and its just flat out wrong.
That Witch Doctor getting his aghs? Super important. Earth shaker getting his blink? Incredibly important. After about the 20/25 minute mark you want to start seeing your supports farming to get some item progression.
Even to the point carrys should be buying wards, smoke, dust. Particularly if you're a super active one like qop where you might go push a lane deeper into enemy territory than it would ever be smart for a support to be.
Supports are there to do that, support. Their role isn't "sacrifice". If you want them to be able to support later on into the game, they need some farm.
