Out now on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
Worth noting the bolded.
Dear stalkers,
It feels utterly surreal to say that, but S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is out now. That's totally wild. So was the whole development story.
Despite all the odds, it's here. Our biggest game, our own story, our love letter to Ukraine. After more than 15 years, the doors to the Zone are opened once again.
This is a very important, very exciting, and very memorable day for all of us.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is meaningful in its own way for each fan. We hope that those who have been familiar with the universe for a long time will immediately feel at home and recognize that very same S.T.A.L.K.E.R. For all newcomers, we hope you'll immerse yourselves in the magical, alien, and all-powerful Zone, and, feeling its unique emotions, will stay with us for a long time.
This is a project of endless love and passion from the entire team. We genuinely believe that this is felt throughout — you'll feel it in the handcrafted world, you'll feel it in the laboratory and in the poppy fields, or during the first emission, or intense battle with a bloodsucker, or the stylish reload of your new gun, or first seeing Prypiat under the moonlight. There are so many things in the game that we are incredibly proud of.
Nevertheless, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is a massive game. We understand that in such a game, there may still be rough edges: we literally haven't released anything of this scale before. We're absolutely committed to being here, monitoring your feedback, and quickly fixing any issues that need our attention. In the first days after release, we'll be working with hotfixes, rolling them out as precisely as possible, but as frequently as we can. Then, we'll switch to larger updates that include constant improvements. There will also be free in-game content — we'll share its roadmap later in December.
We have big plans for the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. universe. In a way, today is both a return and the beginning of a grand new journey.
We're blessed to have you before, we're blessed to have you now. The Zone belongs to you. Have fun.
With L.O.V.E.
GSC Game World team
tbf I've suffered through worse performance in STALKER back in the day on my potato machine. The GTS 250 was NOT a good GPU
I was expecting much worse. The 1% lows is what drags the whole thing down. You just might have to dial things back a fair bit to get it running smoothly *shudders*.

Uuuuuugggghhhhhhhhh I left my PC downloading at 4pm and just checked and found out by fucking cat turned my PC off with his foot when I started downloading. 2 hours lost.
By Batong Go To PostHows the early bugs 👀Still in the tutorial area. No real jankiness besides the relatively poor performance. Gonna eat some dinner and power through.

Very much feels like STALKER in a new coat. UI is much improved - more user friendly - without changing the mechanics much.
PSA: If you're on PC you can disable the vignette. Create an Engine.ini file in C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Stalker2\Saved\Config\Windows and add this:

🤣
Looking forward to diving in.
FYI Alex from DF said he highly recommends using a fps cap of 60 or 120 if using FG. And HDR only works in full screen exclusive.
this got the same issue as still wakes the deep, with water effects/puddles/whatever running at like 60fps, while you can run the game way higher.
So far it is running pretty damn well, but fsr seems bugged for me at least, so turned it off again.

By Laboured Go To PostMore and more big games becoming CPU limited tho PC brehs. We are officially on notice.Time to move up to 8K to avoid the CPU bottleneck.
have it regularly come to a crawl. No idea what triggers it. Nothing really going on and it just drops down to 5fps for a minute. Usually corrects itself.

I have very shit internet in my building (70mbps) and nothing I personally do (regardless of what I am willing to pay, unless I move house) can change that. The building owner (a notoriously shitty company) would have to arrange to connect it to fibre first.

Temps aren't the issue that I know for sure. Saw some people on the steam massage board with the same issue on different hardware. I have no idea.
I wasn't expecting to be able to play tonight anyway but... that's still mildly demoralising. I didn't know that could happen to Steam downloads.

By WoodenLung Go To Postit is like that by default, but can disable that.makes sense
By Smokey Go To PostUpdate is downloading at 1.7 Gbps on PC GamePass.GP uses all that bandwidth

By Dr3up Go To PostJust started playing the original for the first time.I have no idea if I'm supposed to be constantly taking stuff all the way back to the trader, or just leaving valuable items on the floor since the carry limit is so harsh. Can barely even carry three guns.
Finally got an AK-47, now feel like my shots are landing in the same postcode as the crosshair. Still nowhere near geared up enough to take on a few of the areas I've passed.
The trip is way too far, think you just have to leave stuff behind. Seems like the world has more places to sell later on, some of the other npcs will buy some stuff.
Seems the biggest issues right now are controller issues (e.g. sensitive deadzones) and issues with the A-Life system. In particular it seems like they've integrated a random spawning system on top of A-Life which seems somewhat anti-thetical to A-Life and it's tuned quite aggressively at the moment. It does sound like they are working on it tho.
